Hi folks,
my current system is as follows:
Debian Wheezy (testing), with fglrx-driver 12.3 (Radeon HD 4290, RS880, yes: onboard ;-), and wine 1.4rc1.
For now, everything works perfectly.
But: flgrx-driver 12.4 has been dropped in testing, because it is not compatible with the new X-Server (1.12). The next fglrx (12.5) won't support Radeon HD 4xxx, so I have a problem now. I can switch to the OS-driver xserver-xorg-video-radeon which supports my video, even 3D acceleration (some threads told so).
But will EVE run with this driver? Has anyone tested this?
If I update my system, and deinstall fglrx, I won't be able to switch back, because of no packages in testing.
[Btw. I know there are other solutions: Windows, new video card (Nvidia), ..., but first I want to try with my current system.]
Thanks in advance!

You can prevent the fglrx-driver 12.3 from being updated and or replaced. I don't know how to do it in Debian though, so better start checking the Debian/Ubuntu webpages. |

Thanks for your hints. I've pinned the fglrx- and xserver-packages, allowing me to update the rest of the system.
If anyone get EVE running with os-radeon-driver, so I can remove all fglrx, tell me... |

I know it works, but the performance when i tested was not great on my 6370 gpu compared to catalyst. Should be a way to uninstall and install pakages not pulling from the server.
Im gonna probably try Gallium/Radeon on my systems soon enough. The only mess I know you will have is the S3TC patent meaning you need to find libdxtn so that you will have textures in EVE with opensource drivers.
