When you open the edit window to prepare a new post or reply a timestamp is allocated. When you hit the post button this timestamp will be applied to your post, with the result that it will effectively appear in the past.
In busy threads or forums, your new post will be sorted into the list based on that timestamp and as a result it will not appear as the most recent post. In can in fact appear several pages back from the last page (in very busy threads) which substantially reduces the chances of it ever being read.
If you are the kind of person who takes time to prepare a post, as opposed to just firing off the first thing that pops into your head, you may be affected by this. If so, the workaround is to open up a text editor outside of your browser and prepare your post in that. When you are ready to submit then and only then do you open the posting window on the forums, cut and paste your text, then immediately post. If you do this your post will appear where you expected it to and stands a better chance of being seen.
I began editing this post at 18:12, a draft was automatically saved without asking for my permission at 18:13, then again a minute later, and I am hitting the post button at 18;15 to see what happens....
edit: posting time is that of the last draft, not when I actually posted. |

Could you please hurry it up a bit? There's an additional suspected defect I'd like to test, but it requires somebody else to edit a post as a prerequisite. |

Ever hear of the term "bogged down in minutia"? Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

That could almost be a tagline for the new patch. |

Here are the results. Not sure how this helps, but it's pretty far apart for the start and end of the edit process. |

Hey, thanks!
So it looks like the "time-reversion" has a maximum 1 minute delay, and your posting time will be backdated to either the time of the last "Draft saved" message, or the time you began you page if you post before a draft was saved.
Assuming you want your replies to correctly appear at the bottom of the last page when you post them, or at the top of the new list if it's a new post, you can do two things:
------------- % ----------------------
Use the cut&paste method described above
or
Prepare your post in the normal was but wait until you see the "draft saved" message and then hit "POST" immediately.
------------- % ----------------------
Bit of a palavar just to make your forum posts appear in the right place, but if posting to the forum is all we can do until they fix that *@!%"#& inventory we might as well do it.

Not at all, no. It only manifests itself during posting-storms, and in those times most posts never get read anyway.
But I'm fascinated by computer bugs. While generally annoying, they also tend to open up certain possibilities. This one, for example, opens up the possibility of replying to a new thread and exploiting the time-reversal effects such that your reply appears first in the thread and quotes a message that was posted in the future.

I managed to post a reply before the OP yesterday actually the OP was 3rd in the thread
luls The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

Cool.
Now, if anybody finds a way to bypass this 1-min limitation on the time-slip, locked threads will become a thing of the past.
