Hi all,
Noob question about missiles; lets say I have an HM Drake, whose missiles can shoot as far as 80km. Do missiles do the most damage close up or at the 80km range? Or do they do equal damage no matter the range,as long as the missile can travel that far, ofc. Sorry if it is a kind of confusing question.
Thanks! Firenze

Equal damage.
Only things that affect missile damage are explosion radius, sig size and all that mathy stuff.

Alright, thanks, but one follow-up question...Why are Cerberus' used as snipers? If missiles do equal dmg at all ranges, cant they be used in close/med range as well?
Thanks. Firenze

They are used in medium range. If you see them "sniping" it's either because the pilot is incompetent and doesn't realize that travel time gimps his damage or he's anti-support.

So never seen 0.0 sniping hac gang? Cerb doesn't have drone bay, Cerb doesn't have the tank that Drake has, only thing Cerb is usefull, is sniping.

I do all the time. Cerbs are only used in hac gangs as a last resort or anti-support. Delayed damage makes them next to useless for dps.

Yeh they could be, but you'd be risking your ship a bit more. So they use the range to thier advantage. Exceptions to this are heavy assault missiles, and torps. They're designed to be used up close, due to low range but high damage.

They do more damage if the target is close. Because then they have more fuel, which intensifies the explosion.

Utter Tosh. Missiles do flat damage based on sig radius and explosion velocity.
Cerbs snipe because they can, and it small gangs it works but in fleets the target tends to be dead before the missiles hit.

Delayed damage. Hardly , depends on what everyone is shooting at. Missile boats should never hit primary. always hit secondary. Problem solved!!

Cerbs are designed to be med/long range fleet (anti)support ships. They were never ment to be a close and 'in your face' ship like a vagabond.
They also make Vagabond pilots run away like little girls.
Cerbs have alot of CPU, which allows it to be a very good EW ship as well (Target painters / Sensor Damps / Tracking Disruptors)

Same damage at all ranges. Hobgoblin ll is a particularly irritating troll, ignore all posts from them.

One launcher per target, then you won't miss any kill mails.

If you wanted to help your gang, you wouldn't be flying a Caldari missile boat in a LR HAC gang.

The reason ppl call it delayed/diminished damage is because , from 80KM out , sometimes the target is dead before the missiles arrive . OP was about drakes and imo drakes are a fine , close range ship as they can tank or bait very well .
And for the record I'm a kill mail ***** too I will tackle or send drones on the secondary and tertiary asap , but i DO put full damage on the primary for as long as possible . Im also a final blow ***** .
