Define "extremely popular". Have they released statistics on what percentage of their subscriber base is on the lifetime one?

Why would they introduce a lifetime subscription considering they don't plan to have this game shut down for a very long time?
Lifetime subscriptions are great for games that will fail after a year though.

EVE lifetime subscription would cost about 3000-4000 Euro. Would you pay it ?

Yes, as if the game plans to live long, they wouldnt offer a lifetime subscription, they only offer it when they dont plan to run business taht long.

There's already a way to get a lifetime subscription for Eve.
It's called 'Scamming Ebank'

Sorry, I wrote it before my first cup of coffee as well. Simply, if you have a game with a good player retention rate it is an economic suicide to offer lifetime subscription as after a while they will no longer have an income. If the players only are expected to last for like 6 months or they don't think the game will last once the initial hype is gone it makes sense to sell lifetime subs.
Dunno if that made any more sense though...

Lifetime subs are a marketing gimmick that may harm the business. The theory is that if players on average stay for 6 months, selling them a lifetime sub costing 12 months worth makes double the cash. In reality, offering a lifetime sub in tandem with existing sub options creates an inherent filtering mechanism in that those that are attracted to the offer are those that typically would play for more than the average length of time. As a result, there's a reduction in monthly income from long-term players. As EVE's player retention rates are very high and the game is planned to continue for the forseeable future, it would be a very bad decision to offer lifetime subs.
While I'd love to pay less, I appreciate the fact that a monthly subscription plan provides enough money for continued development of the game. And as it's EVE, every few months I feel I get something new for my cash.

He didn't get a lifetime subsciption, he got a permanent ban. In a way, he got a subscription to real life :D.

I was prepared to come up with a witty negative comment about the topic at hand, but since everyone else had better ones, I'll just sum up mine:
