I have no idea what this is or why I need it. I guess I will have to wait as the Blog did say: "We will be sharing additional information regarding COSMOS in the coming weeks to give you a better grasp of what it is and how much it will add to your EVE experience."
At the moment though I think this is the least comment-on blog I have ever seen lol

meh fairly easy to answer (also very quickly answerable *hint**hint**nudge**nudge* ) most of eve (if not everything) already runs on microsoft products and ms is already throwing allot of support ccp's way why split from that ?

I still wonder how much they got from MS for dropping Linux support.
Imagine it would work on all platforms, eg linux netbooks, the smartphones, handhelds.
At least the perfomance will scale, more users = more crashes.

That's a bit cynical. The vast majority of players use windows, and just because its l33r to run linux doesn't make it a sane choice for a gamer. No-one's stopping the crazy tech-heads out there from running eve, but wine isn't the easiest beast to run and until you get running eve on linux systems to be as simple as it is on windows, you can't really say that you 'support' it.
On topic: I approve of this concept. Anything that allows for another level of immersion and contact can only be good for the eve community.

It's simple:
1. Microsoft offers great support 2. The maker of Umbraco offers business-grade support.

edit: awww man not another ASP site, they never work, they remain broken until they're switched to a real server running a real server OS.

A few quick replies for everyone.
Why .Net / MS based?
From a web development perspective we are a .Net shop. As a company we also work very closely with Microsoft from our server operating systems, SQL Server databases, development tools, etc. I can also tell you as someone who has done over 7 years of java consulting/architecture as well that .Net based solutions are just as good and in some areas better. Both do the job equally well and in this case .Net is where our expertise is.
I wish I had applied for a web dev job knowing this?
Go for it. Seriously we are always looking for good people even if there is not a specific position posted. Cosmos development will continue on after launch and there are many more exciting projects coming down the pike. There is definitely not a shortage of work!
That was nice techno-babble but what features will be in Cosmos?
We're writing a blog up on that now, should be out soon(tm). I could tell you now but then I'd have to kill ya.
What about IMAP/SMTP support for the mail system?
What we are building is not a ground up email system. This is a messaging system tailored to EVE's needs, some of that is standard mail functionality (send, receive, contact lists, formatting, etc) and some of it is additional EVE specific functionality that wouldn't fit with a standard protocol. We are also not looking to expose sending functionality outside of Cosmos at this time due to obvious security, abuse and performance concerns. We will be making API additions to expose read oriented functionality.
What about the API?
We will be addressing the API and actually spending a good bit of effort on it. This will include adding new features to coincide with new capabilities you will be getting with Cosmos. We will also be spending time re-factoring the back end of the API to share in advancements we have made as part of Cosmos. For instance this will replace the APIs current caching mechanism yielding solid performance gains. We will provide more information regarding these features in a blog when we get further along with it.
Can you please fix the in game browser?
We are actually totally replacing it. There is a team working away diligently on it and the results are a fully standards compliant browser with all the functionality desired. I don't want to steal their thunder so I'll let them blog about it. Rest assured it meets my needs as a web developer and I'm picky :)
We'll keep blogging about the project as we progress, we're pretty excited about all the possibilities and want to get it into your hands as quickly as we can.

Why is it called COSMOS again? There is this other thing called COSMOS that is half finished and many consider it a failure, further supported by usurping the name for another completelt and totally unrelated feature. you have a good name as an alternative already used in the architecture, Nexus. Really what could possibly be better then that for a social networking site? You should fire your marketing department for coming up with COSMOS tbh . Rly, Nexus.

Nexus
Ne... I'll stop now.

Hi Can you give any hints as to what sort of functions will be available via the API and similarly via XML-RPC? Enquiring minds want to start developing!
