So Dust 514 was intelligent like Unreal Tournament 3 and allows Keyboard and Mouse interface for the PS3 correct? I mean what kind of idiot would make a FPS be controlled only by a console controller, hahaha that would be so silly. |

Look. This is going to be a huge debate. I will go back a decade here b/c I want to really beleive the mouse keyboard is better. However, with the two anolog sticks, movement is just as good. And for a shooter, the controller has the natural r2 or rb button.
Anyway, ten years ago. Jedi outcast. This was an fps that I could not imagine playing with a controller. The combos involved, the technical keystrokes, and timing. It had to be on a m/kb.
However, games aren't really like that anymore. They don't make u work for the kill like that game did. It was like plaything streetfighter. Hit attack, half way through, hit it again while jumping from a crouch, etc, etc. Like I said, fps not like that any more. Mush more point and shoot I guess.
A keyboard would help with commamds, but with a headset a team is deadly.
Dont forget the ps3 also has the move. Its a little odd though. |

Pc Elitist... yea okay but there are bad people at pc fps games as much as theres bad people on consoles doing fps. iknow that from playing medal of honor over a console i kept wacking them like weeds in the yard mowing them down and it was my first time on a console. i was like yea okay... boring goodbye. |

Dont forget the ps3 also has the move. Its a little odd though. Forget it. It has been tried to let kb/m and controllers compete directly with each other and controllers were so inferior that it was beyond any possibility to fix, so they had to be separated again. Horizontal movement is far slower with sticks than with mouse and vertical movement is far more inprecise, and this can-¦t be changed due to technical matters. And while kb/m allows you to use your ability to move your hands and also all ten fingers, a controller doesn-¦t use the movement of your hands and restrict you to use the thumbs, the index fingers and maybe the middle fingers, thats it. All in all you can utilize maybe 30%-40% of your hands in comparison to kb/m. So controller-players are inferior in regards to complexity of maneuvers as well, limiting their options in any given situation. So it-¦s not just a matter of being used to it or something, but hard limits you can-¦t overcome. A good player on controller can beat a bad player on kb/m, but thats the best you can hope for.
With further development Kinect and equivalents will drive out controllers from the consoles within the next ten years anyway, they are already beginning to be obsolete. "You either need less science fiction or more medication."

Oh i launched dust this morning for the first time and i instantly tried to plug my KB/mouse without success ^^
I will always remember the first time one Microsoft guy playing Halo Beta in front of an assembly with his mega ultra loudy cool Xbox, walking & shooting like 90's playstyle fps (aka marathon from ... Bungie, best mac fps so far since mouse support :p )
I would LOVE to see anyone playing ARMA2 at least on console, or any freaking Simple and realistic flight sim. remember humans are 1m70 height average and seeing that from 400m is.. a tiny moving point. Console game is so much assisted that most of those games coming to PC platform is just a 3D kind of Space Invaders (yes i'm looking at you, BF3, MW3 walking down the corridor level design).
Oh wait... combat simulations are forbidden on console cuz lack of power and controllability.
CCP allowing players to play with KB/mouse is the best choice they've done in month. And just because of that, MAYBE one day, i will buy sony hardware again, and not use my office's ps3.
well, see you on the ground and happy zombie walking :)
TLDR : shooting elite PCgamers with a Xbox analog controller is only doable when the Elite is afk or wife aggro (not much at 13y.o.) OR you're lucky/outnumbered. did you tried command and conquer on PSx ? and you keep telling me the console controller is awesome in every situation ?
Well thank you CCP, at least some of you knows what FPS mean.
Happy Zombie Walking everbody, see you at the beach and beware of Walls Collide ! |

also, since when was dust an RTS, of course mouse keyboard is 10000times better for RTS,and MMOs, but its only marginally better for shooters and its only for aiming.
Sports games? controller is better RPG? depending on how much crap you gotta do, but 99% of the time, Controller is better flight games? controller Fighting? controller Shooters? since everyone is on common ground controller definitely, even if dust has keyboard and mouse support chances are no one else will use it. hate to break it for you but the vast majority of FPS is played with controllers. you can spout PC elitist nonsense and look like an idiot and be backed by other PC elitist that live on PC forums but it doesn't make you good and doesn't make you right, its about the same as going on a WOW forum and saying Eve is better every day.

Yes, it sure is a challenge using a controller on a console
I mean, they have auto aim and everything, super hard mode activated...

Would definately agree here... a Mouse is superior for precision aiming tasks, such-as Sniping. It can help turn an adverage FPS player in to a useful one as far as actually hitting a target goes.
What you should try however is have tight cover battles, or controlling vehicles with a Keyboard and Mouse. Honestly I have no issues with people getting the option to use them... go for it. The only games I've actually felt a Mouse + Keyboard was better have been the extremely tactical shooters where you will die the instant someone hits you.
e.g. Counter-Strike, ARMA or Operation Flashpoint.
With DUST though it doesn't matter if you have a Mouse and Keyboard, Controller or PlayStation Move ... the second as a Sniper your standing face to face with a Heavy; you know the ****** is smiling inside his helmet because you've just been turned into Swiss Cheese without you doing any damage to him.
Accuracy has a less valid place in most modern shooters because characters take a bit more to take down, in Dust they can be freaking walking tanks. Doesn't matter what advantage your control system has, you're going to want a bigger gun with better skills! |

Hardly, because such a game would have no place for mediums and lights. Since that is not the case, you are wrong. "You either need less science fiction or more medication."

And then there's all the console gamers on IGN and Gamespot and anywhere else you can think of saying that KB/M support will destroy the game because controller players will get wiped. Oh, and its -our- fault for influencing CCP to try and make a mini-EVE and foist it off on them.
