The last weeks this site is incredibly slow and forums/character info is often not available or at least it takes a very long time to change page. i use several different computers and isps to read read so im pretty sure its not my connections. i suspect the use of this character management prog is behind this.
can something be done? this site is a tool that i pay for as much as i pay for my account so i'd like to be able to access it.
thank you very much

The site does get somewhat slow when there are a lot of people in the server. Nothing horrible though but more speed wouldnt hurt ---------------------------

Forums and other pages seem to load pretty much instantly with me and I'm on ADSL.

It totally sucks. I'm not sure if it's a US thing, but at work, on a T3 line it takes over 30 seconds, sometimes over a minute to load ANY pages on the forum or character info. At home, I'm on a T1 and it's the same thing. Super slow, at all times of the day. This only started happening a couple months ago, after they said they were doing server hardware updates.

It is a "US" thing, extends back from the first really big gripes over extended downtime that hits the U.S. at 5 EST, some have noticed how unfairly resources seem to have been divied up. Seeing howmost of the subscribership resides east of the Atlantic. It's been a purposeful throttle back aimed at the US accounts. Untill us subcriber rates improve don't expect any improvements anytime soon.
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

Edited by: Feasd on 04/10/2004 19:41:05 I'm in Scotland and this site has always been horrifically slow for me too, so it's not just a US thing. Access times also seem to fluctuate wildly, sometimes a page will load in 15 seconds or so whilst at other times I can go make a coffee while waiting for threads to open.
Hehe, now that I'm typing this it actually all reminds me of the old days- life on a 14.4k modem and only 2-digits worth of RAM... ahh, the bad old days :P
<edited for the inevitable typos>

I switched to DSL and my latency decreased greatly. The problem is that the cable connection uses allot of repeaters to get to thier server. The download is faster but the gaming performance and the connection to this website (lag) just blows. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

Well, checking the dev blogs, I guess we can assume things are slow because the devs have voluntarily asked us to pingflood them :)

I experience exactly the same thing, the page loading times vary wildly. Im in the UK and on ADSL, although my connection seems to be deteriating lately in general. My bandwidth ranges from very good 52KBps down to 1.5KBps (less than modem speeds). Hence took me bloddy ages to download the 40mb Shiva patch today.
I fear it maybe due to the provider (Pipex) or contention within the ADSL exchange where I am, since broadband is becoming so popular and as usual the telco companies are reluctant / greedy to spend the money to upgrade their systems / pipes
I mailed Pipex support serveral times over the last 5 days and still no reply It's a shame since performance upto now had been excellent.
I was going to change to Nildram, but they have just been taken over by Pipex .

Indeed it was. Character Managers to blame again?
Does this have an affect on in game performance too?

Tell me why this is a US thing, im in holland and besides the early hours its horribly slow here as well (speed is good from 8:00 ingame till around 16 to 1800 ingame). -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

It's common knowledge that the forums are linked to the game servers because the forum is slowest when the game has a lot of people logged in. It makes sense, therefore, that the game performance may suffer when the forum is busiest? This in turn seems to be affected by the Character Manager.

I have noticed sometime the forums fluxuate on load speeds, but the rest of the site is pretty constant, im on 56k, and live in the US, and as far as downloads go i get close to 7k/s downloads which is as fast i can get on any site. as for character managers, unless the default its changed is only updates once every hour, so i dont see how that could flood the server (MoF in ECM i dont even think you can change the online update interval, not sure though i left mine on default).
