This is a true story. One day CCP Zyg and I were chatting. Okay, he was making fun of me for still being in a newb corp. Anyway, he invites me out to join his, only the office is halfway across New Eden in lowsec space. After what seemed like forever, the pathetic remnants of my ship made it into the station, and I was able to apply to the corp.
I have only one thing to say to that. Never join a corp that Zyg is in.
Oh, and CCP Murinae, your blog makes you my hero!

First: WOW! someone just invented the warm water....
Second: Where is our WiS Dev Blog!!! COME ONE GUYS!!!
Third: i wish there could be like a timer period for ppl to be in NPC corps, like 3 weeks and incentives to be in player corps like idk, bigger bounties or better ship prices from corporate partners? say if u are in a player corp u can get 5% discount in office area prices for that corp/alliance.

Um, okay. I'd sort of hoped for a little more substance or progress in a dev blog. I like the actual feature and everything, but I would think of that as maybe a bullet point. --

Excellent feature. Nullsec corps will benefit greatly from this, as not many want the overhead of an office in highsec just for applicants.
I do have a request, which someone has already mentioned above. When a corporation is no longer recruiting, perhaps allow the corporation to disable the "Apply to Join" boxes via a checkbox in the corp interface. While most corps would probably not use this, during times of war this could be a handy feature to use. Also, perhaps a predominant "NOT RECRUITING" could be shown above the corp bio.

Not bad, and a nice change!
While you're at it, there's a few things that could be easily streamlined for the other side of things...
1. Application mails should come from a single address - something like the corp itself, as they do when you request a container password. Then you can easily tell what mails are important, and I wont get 40-50 emails a day that I don't need obscuring the important ones.
2. Move the Corp>Members>Applications tab to the Corp>Recruitment tab, to go with the adverts (assuming you still keep them). That should probably have been moved when the recruitment ads were implemented.
3. Have an automatic and corp definable evemail go out to everyone who does apply - ideal for those corps which are "closed" or have specific requirements or process. Maybe a similar one when you join?
All pretty simple, and fairly easy to implement (at least for #1 and #2), and should heap simplify things a little for all involved. _____

They've already stated in a devblog that WiS will not be in 1.5 or the next expansion. And I for one am glad. I play EVE Online to play EVE Online, not to beta test WoD Online. |

And now the (constructive) criticism.
I'd like to have an option (checkbox in the Corp management dialog, maybe?) to switch off "remote applications". What if corporation has a single office in 0.0 pirate station, and flying to this station to apply is a proficiency test?

Edited by: Sydney Cartone on 03/08/2009 16:12:35 Edited by: Sydney Cartone on 03/08/2009 16:08:53 This is good. Especially the highlighting of the color for new players. Activating the tutorial agent here would be helpful as well.
Another suggestion: Some corporations may wish to remain private and not receive join requests. This button should in this case be labeled "private" with perhaps a dull fade color and made inactive, so players do not attempt to join.

Another suggestion:
The TYPE and PLAYER CREATED DESCRIPTION of corporation should be immediately prominent (FIRST PANEL). Therefore in addition to description field allowed for CORP owner, a type field such as a menu scroll of selectable types can be provided i.e. PvP Corp, Research Corp, Manufacturing, Hauling, or Other.

How many times I had to explain new players how to cross the galaxy to come click join...
What I'm wondering is : No player proposed this idea ever? It looks like so simple that we may have not proposed it... -- Fanfest memories : I looked in your eyes And I found the galaxy Now I'm stuck in eve.

I have, years ago.
ALSO! CCP Take a holistic design approach. Hodge podge is just stupid and will wreck the aesthetic of EVE turning it into Anarchy Online where over half the content is not finished and no one can distinguish between finished content and dead ends.

Just one button. Heh.
I don't get it though, why are ppl complaining about there being a "whole" devblog over just one button? It's a useful button, and it's not like we can only have a limited number of devblogs...
And another thing like this that you might add: Just one rightclick menu to the logon portraits. Like when you rightclick someone in a channel. Pretty plz?

My initial approval has waned as I realized this will mean more random blank applications by totally new players. Used to be because they saw the offices and thought it was just a given that an application would be accepted even if it was blank. Now though corps will be getting apps by any new player who does a show info on someone in a cool ship.
That doesnt even address the malicious apps that will happen. I imagine someone sitting in station in Jita.. click show info on first person in local... click corp info... click apply to join.. send blank app... move on to next person in local.. rinse and repeat all day long. On second thought.. that could be pretty funny, good job guys. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

Nice blog. Useful button. I worry noone at CCP is willing to get "bogged down" in the tougher aspects of corporations and alliances though. Whatever happened to that massive list of suggested corp/alliance improvemnets from a year or two ago? How many actually got implemented?
At any rate I don't suppose you could post your list of planned 'bitesize' changes to corporation and alliances for the next year? and will these get added to the game when ready, or will we have to wait for batches of changes every 6 months or so?
I hope you're also going to address glaring corporation and alliance security issues within a reasonable timeframe. Cheers.

Edited by: Malusae on 03/08/2009 17:27:00 You should make an option for a corp to turn that off. That way if the ceo doesn't want to recruit, he can just turn off the apply button.
Just my 2 isk.
(Already suggested above, I should probably read a thread before commenting, but oh well ;) )
