As far as iam cocnerned EVE is science fiction, ambulation they wanted it to look bit mroe serious, i wont say realsitic. but serious and orderly is what they want. ccp devs simply hate games like wow where everyone runs arround and jump all the time.
I mean, its a freaking space game dude.
the only sad thing in eve that does annoy me is warping thru objects, also the bubble design thing. other than that, its meant to be a playable game that we can enjoy, if you want soemthing more realsitic, wait for infinity like the rest of us are

Reality is excellent for inspiration and neato effects.
So in that same vein of thought, the 30 sec timer between jumping from one ship to another should be removed, same as when you join a Fleet and you can't go through a warpgate for some strange reason.
What are you even talking about? Those are balancing mechanics, not rooted in reality. -----

If you want realism, go out to the construction yard, wait for a burly construction worker to start the cement mill, tip it over, ie "flip it" and watch realism unfold before your very eyes

Originally by: Asinar I find it funny how CCP talks about realism all the time. Let's take a look at Eve.
Warping through stations, planets...realistic? No, ship would blow up. Having to use afterburner/MWD for prolonged time (cycling)...realistic? No. Theres no friction in space, nothing stops a ship from moving once it gets speed. Aside from it crashing into something.
Skilltraining, realistic? No. Why would I have to learn how to engineer a piece of equipment just so I can use it? Let's take the example of a afterburner. All the pilot needs to do is press a button, let the engineers worry about the fitting and making it work...does it take weeks to learn to press a button?
Theres tons of warpgates...don't you think mankind would have invented a few gates that makes traveling to far away places easier? Well, yeah...is there something like that in Eve? I haven't come across anything like it. Pirates surely should have warpgates in every corner of the world.
First, get real, then talk about realism.
What else have you found unrealistic about Eve?
Ok. First of all. Skill training makes sense if you've read anything at all in regards to the EVE universe. Ships (as far as capsuleers go) are not crewed. They are controlled by one person who wills the ship to action through his symbiotic-like connection with it. So there is no pushing a button and letting the engineer worry about the rest for a capsuleer. The Capsuleer needs to recognise in his mind if a problem is developing with the afterburner and needs to recognise how to fix it effectively to keep his ship running smoothly. This requires skill and skill requires training and training requires time. Especially when you consider that injecting all of the information all at once would cause the capsuleer's brain to turn into a rather unappetizing mush.
Warp: The ship is disconnected from the physical universe because it has to travel past C and nothing travels faster than C (C being the mathematical indication for the speed of light). Even a cursory glance of how warp travel works in eve shows you that the ship is propelled into a distortion of space/time where the ship has next to no interaction with matter (the same way that a neutron travels at the speed of light). So, this being the case, it would be entirely possible to travel through stations and planets (while providing a convenient excuse for a negligable fault in game mechanics).
Advancement of technology: Is largely problematic in a galaxy where 1) everyone dislikes each other in the extreme and 2) captalism is key. For one thing designing a new kind of stargate or warp propulsion would represent cost to people such as the Gallente and the Caldari, while to the Amarr it would represent possibly future enemies gaining an unacceptable advantage over them. This is the case for the minmitar, who would have little interest in a new form of warp travel anyway. And would highly oppose the Amarr designing such a thing.
Also you have to consider that technologic advancement has been constantly knocked back through war and skirmish and revolution time and again.
If you take a look into Jovian backstory you'll see that they are highly advanced and, it is said, have an extraodinary ability to travel vast distances with their ships without ever requiring a jump gate? Why? Jovians aren't part of the socioeconomic, or economic landscape that the other four races fit into. Being reclusive and turning their backs on the other four races they were largely without war and focused on advancement (and possibly gaining access to terran technology). Which means that the jovians are much more sophisticated than anybody else in the galaxy.
Hope this helps.

would have to know a good deal more about warp theory before you could say anything about the interpermeability of objects.
I haven't come across anything like it. Pirates surely should have warpgates in every corner of the world.
how many pirates have the resources to build a jumpgate far less a bunch of them.

the ai that runs missiles is highly deficient. missiles will literally wait for ships to pass then chase them from behind. we've had front aspect acctacking missiles for decades now.
turret tracking is dopey. the computer controlling the gun points the gun at where the target wil be not where it is currently. frigates orbiting ships a couple km away take up many degrees of sky and the idea that a computer controlled gun is going to miss them at that range is astounding. the cpu in that 2 dollar wris****ch is plenty capable of generating firing solutions under those conditions.

There was an excellent article on realism in games in the Escapist just the other day.

So I was taking my Mega out last night for a spin and ended up getting stuck in the quafe factory drive thru. I guess they didnt account for hall tall it is. Either way the mwd was due to be serviced and I ended up at the Megathron dealship down the road and was told that it would cost more to fix it then to buy a new one. I am unsure what to do, the economy is in the crapper and if you think that internet spaceships is realistic you should be shot, (ingame).

your forgetting how realistic it is to transfer my conciousness from one body to another and then when i die i can be reinstalled from a backup disc into a new body.

I dunno about the warping thing, it might be possible if the mechanics of it actually warped space/time around you, you probably wouldn't even "pass through" an object but something completely different...
I agree with the speed thing though...speed in general, it wouldn't take much to accelerate a ship to a speed much, much faster than the ones in EVE fly...hell look at the velocity space junk orbiting our planet travels at, like 18km/s.

I don't think Einstein would have been raging considering he and Nathan Rosen proved that wormholes could exist back in 1935. Go and look up Einstein-Rosen Bridges.

everyone in eve is a Space Elf, except for those of you who are Space Trolls. You know who you are.
Seriously, I've never understood the wow/fantasy genre hate from eve players. Sure, it's a different genre, but eve is no more realistic than wow is. Less so, in some ways. You can take falling damage in wow, but you don't take damage from running into things in eve. Wow at least has an approximation of basic physics. =P
