Can you load and unload a Jump Freighter in a pos, or does it have to be at a station? Maybe at the corp hangar in the POS ?

I will admit I've never flown a jump freighter but I'd be willing to bet money that it is handled the same way as a regular freighter which I have flown. I used one to move the ore from a full corporate hanger at my high-sec POS to a station for refining.

Anyone else who has flown a JF who could help, please?

As far as I can tell... as I get ready to fly mine...
JF's have no docking bay or jet tube or whatever they call it.
They cant pick up cans or drop them.
Only Freight containers... which can't be ejected.. and only picked up from wrecks. (This sucks major)
Only freighters can use the big ol GFC's....
The only time you can unload and reload a freighter is at a station with a hanger.... or a POS with a Corp Hanger array.
This does not include any ships with Corp Hangers AFAIK.
So the idea of a JF dropping an entire POS facility in nullsec... won't work so well.
>.<;;;
PS: If your gonna fly one... you should get all Jump Drive Skills and the JF up to IV to really make it effective.... (Minus the obvious JDO V skill that you need to fly the damn thing in the first place)
PS2: Good luck keeping your 4.7bil + investment intact... makes me paranoid just thinking about it. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

Edited by: Leaping Tiger on 08/08/2009 15:42:09 While we're on the subject of Jump Freighters, what's the best way to use them. I'm guessing you could make a lot of ca$h ferrying minerals from lowsec to Jita and that they simplify moving things around in lowsec.
I might be interested in the first scenario. So you put a Cynosural Field Generator I on a frigate, send it to some system in lowsec and viola! the Jump Freighter just appears? Does the Jump Freighter have to "align" before it jumps or how long does it take to actually leave "real" space and move into hyperspace or whatever? Is it like the jump gates where you just disappear and reappear? Does the Jump Freighter get a temp cloak when it shows up on the other side of a jump? What's the maximum range of a jump? Would it be possible to create a chain where the Jump Freighter jumps from the first frigate to another as soon as the transition timer has run out? What happens if the frigate gets destroyed while the Jump Freighter is mid-jump?

First you need to make sure you have enough fuel in the frigate to make the cyno, then you need to make the cyno, and then make sure you have enough fuel to jump, once you've done all 3 you make the freighter jump and it (almost) instantly appears in close proximity to the cyno.

Depends on your skills. The ship has a base range which your JDC skill increases.

Yes, however you'll need to recharge your cap enough to make the next jump. Normally you'll jump to within docking range of a station, dock, undock with full cap and jump again.

Edited by: Leaping Tiger on 08/08/2009 19:46:30 So the farther the jump the more cap it uses?

No, cap use is always the same, it's just the fuel use that change. Remember that the fuel use listed on the info pages etc about it state the fuel use per lightyear, and not per jump.

Jump Range - Read my post... any and all JF Skills to IV or higher and you'll get at minimum of 10LY's roughly.
Some rules/guidelines to keep in mind -
Jump Freighters may jump from High Sec to anything other than High Sec (Or WHS for that matter).
JF's need a cyno to jump too... one in the gang would be the only way to do it. JF's can jump at-will... you can't warpscram or web or stop them from jumping.... much like a stargate. (90% certain) JF's have a ton of armor/defenses but they are not invulnerable. Webing a JF on arrival is a good idea for a quicker exit.
Cyno ships - You get locked on grid for 10 minutes.. cant move.. your frozen. (Force Recon is 5mins) You shouldn't cyno at known areas... go to some place far off. Cyno's broadcast to the entire world your there... even on the map! So get in... pop cyno... then GTFO (To the JF Pilot) Aim for single jumps... not more than 1 if possible. It might be a good idea to cyno near a heavily defended POS
Tip: DONT JUMP PREDICTABILITY... people who track will set up ambush... have alternate routes... again.. 10 LY's is the Magic Number.
Feel free to correct as this is entirely from word of mouth and research.

I fueled a pos network in 0.0 for a year.
You can load and unload the JF into a station hanger or corp hanger at a pos. Do not use a freight container if you are going to be using it at a pos. Items cannot be removed from a freight container at a pos.
Be sure to calculate how much room you will need for fuel and plan for one extra jump just in case.
When jumping a JF to a pos, set cyno 170k from the tower and fit webs (2-3) on your cyno ship. Initiate warp when in target system and then web it with the frig. It will insta warp the JF to the safety of the pos. Cynoing next to the pos will leave you 10k from the pos shields.
Cyno within docking distance of stations, but allow enough room so that you will not bounce off the station. Capitals jump within a 4k radius of the cyno.
I hope that helps.

You can also unload directly from a Freighter/JF into the fuel/Stront bay of an ACTIVE POS... if it's inactive however you cannont refuel the tower and online it.

Incorrect. Like any capital ship, scramming then blocks warps as well as jumps. Webs have no effect on jumps.
