Ive been training Caldari ships for a while now and im trying to figure out what direction I should go I have trained some missile skills and railguns. But I always hear how horrible Caldari is for PVP. I also have some training in Gallente(frigate) and Amarr(frigate) but I am trying to decide if its better to switch to one of the others or stick with Caldari. Mainly looking at solo or small fleet ships and fits.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Caldari are excellent gang warfare ships. Don't listen to the 'Caldari Sucks' morons. I have ZERO problems being competative in pvp ops.

Caldari = biggest sigs, slowest ships, smallest drone bays (if any), lowest racial dps on some dev graph, most our ships are bad to solo with (in relation), rockets and cruise are pretty useless for most pvp, and are shield tank as opposed to armor (rr armor city nowdays) which is why a lot of people don't like them for fleet or gang pvp.
If you are going to cross train from Cald, going to Minmatar probably makes more sense as they also use shield tanks and some missiles. Personally I am starting to slowly cross train to Minny for these reasons (there's also the wild hope that large profectiles get an eventual and much needed buff).

Caldari Railguns need time to practice training. However, Caldari PVP how wrong you can always listen to. Some Gallente (frigate) Amarr other users (frigate), Caldari training is recommended to fix the switch. Fleet and match, please check the solo or small.
Thanks for the advice! --------------- *1) Do CCP, eve-online makers, should make more surver ?

Seltius, I can't tell you how many times I've heard others say exactly what you're saying. The truth is Caldari have some great ships and some that are kinda worthless, just like every other race of ships in eve. I think Caldari have gotten the worst reputation however as a combined result of poorly skilled/informed pilots and what often comes out on EFT as lower DPS/EHP. Sadly many people believe a ship is worthless if another ship comes out with higher numbers in these 2 areas. Here is a great example of a Caldari PVP ship with decent (though not stellar) DPS and what I'm sure is laughable EHP:
http://www.damagedealer.com/game/eveonline/watchvideo/1095
Granted that is an extreme example of a very talented player with a high SP character flying an expensive fit ship, but still there are a lot of people out there that would tell you this cannot happen
If you do decide to switch and crosstrain, do it because the other ships interest you more; not because someone is telling you caldari sucks. If you would like help fittin Caldari ships for pvp, feel free to give me a convo or mail in-game sometime or search the forums for other people who have gotten caldari to work.

THIS IS CORRECT. CALDARI SHIPS CANNOT BE USED FOR PVP. CALDARI SHIPS ARE ONLY FOR MISSION RUNNING AND CAREBEAR ACTIVITIES.

You know what I fear most when PVP'ing, especially since I tend to fly small ships? Missiles. Can't lose 'em with transversal. Guess who does Missiles best? Caldari
You know what one of my most hated things is in PVP'ing? Breaking shield tanks. Guess what does shield tanking best? Caldari.
At the moment, the Drake is arguably the best Battlecruiser in the game.
Caldari has plenty of ships that, in the right hands, perform very well in PVP.

YOU ARE FAIL AT PVP THEN. ANY ASSAULT FRIGATE CAN TAKE DOWN CALDARI SHIPS UP TO BATTLESHIPS WITHIN A MINUTE OR LESS. CALDARI IS FAIL FOR PVP.

Think about the FALCON (even after nerf an awsome ship)
Think about the SCORPION (long range ecm love)
Think about the ROKH (extra long range rails => great for sniping fleets)
Think about the BLACKBIRD (good cheap ecm cruiser)
Think about the CROW (great interceptor)
Think about the MANTICORE (Good bomber with plenty of mids for some ewar love)
Think about the DRAKE and the RAVEN (Missioning and general carebearing)

Well, flying caldari can be very frustrating since Missile Damage gets reduced so easily... I would love to see kinetic damage bonii changed to omni-damage, so that this incremental pro of missiles would not get spoiled by suffering less dps with non-kin-ammo on most caldari ships And signature influence could be a very light bit less intense. And NH. Period.
But indeed, caldari have very awesome ships like the HAMDrake or the Rook/Falcon... as for the Crow,I'm not sure.

Don't listen to what other people tell you about PVP, it's better to learn from your own experience what works for you and what doesn't. It depends more on your prefered style of pewpew. Caldari have an excellent lineup of ships that do well in PVP, including solo in some cases.
Drake, rook, cerb, harpy, kestrel (yes, kestrel of doom), caracal, moa etc are all fairly decent ships, the key is knowing how to fit and fly them. Blackbirds are always welcome in any fleet, scorp is the only dedicated ewar BS in the game, caldari ships make some of the best fleet snipers, the crow is pretty fun to fly and may not be the fastest ceptor out there but it's relatively easy to learn to fly one. Caldari ships are pretty specialised in their roles, which may or may not be a good thing. You just have to learn to make use of their strengths to offset their weaknesses.

for that fit you have to have PERFECT fitting skills plus a 3% CPU impant. swap the 3rd BCU for a PDU and your golden if you have AWU lvl 4

These topics pop up pretty regularly, but I will go along with it, the Rokh is one of my favorite ships, it can have an incredible local tank as well as pump out some pretty serious dps from blasters, and, even though it lacks a damage bonus, the ability to web the opponent and then try to stay out of their optimal while sitting in your own is pretty nice. Also, the Blaster Harpy can hold its own with just about any other AF. The Drake is arguably the best BC if you fit it right and have good skills. ~ The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on. |

Edited by: Darcon Kylote on 10/08/2009 16:00:56 Edited by: Darcon Kylote on 10/08/2009 15:57:51 Caldari suffers from the fact that it always has the highest numbers of noobs and noob fits because so many new players make their very first character Caldari (for whatever reason).
So most of the PVP caldari fits out there are put together by noobs based on their limited experience from running PVE missions in those same ships. Hence the endless numbers of passive drakes showing up in fleets and being used for bait cause that's all they're good for.
They also don't tend to train for T2 missiles and many of the missile support skills, because they are of limited usefulness in PVE.
Once a player gets over that, trains the right skills, and learns how to fit Caldari ships properly for PVP and, more importantly, for a specific intended role, they do as well as any other race.
Awesome Caldari PVP ships:
- Gank-fit HAM drake (best all around BC in game)
- AML Caracal (eats inties and AFs for breakfast)
- Blackbird/falcon with mixed racial jammers (still good, just requires more brains to fly now)
- Flycatcher with a rack of lights and scram/painter (endless hours of fun solo ganking t2 frigs with your sucker bubble 100km behind a pipeline gate). Yes, if roaming or cap tackling you will die and bubble your own pod 95% of the time. In the other dictors it only happens 90% of the time. Meh.
- Buffer tanked, gank fit torp raven (small/med pos bashing, low sec gate camping and melt your face station games). Pick your damage type for added awesomeness.
- HML Rook with racials (for small gangs)
- HAM Rook with multispecs (for solo ganks).
- HML Cerberus (anti-support sniper in med/large fleets. Needs BMs and/or proper warpins to be truly effective).
- Blaster Harpy (great DPS, reasonable tank, makes a nice heavy tackler).
- Manticore. Fit painters and damps. Then it's all in how you fly it. Get at range while cloaked, align transversal to the enemy, let the fight start, uncloak, hit AB, speed tank, spam torps, GTFO after the first hit. For the love of all that's holy, don't fit a point or tank. All of which applies for all the bombers I think. - Crow. Use for fast tackle, then GTFO once someone else has a point and get on multiple KM's while dancing around at 30km+. A nice all around interceptor, excels at nothing specific, fails at nothing specific (except perhaps inty vs inty dogfights, I tend to avoid those).
- Onyx. (Awesome low sec pirate pwnmobile. Reasonably good cap tackler because of limited cap dependency.
Not to say they'r all great though, just like the other races, we have some real lemons:
- Basilisk. Great for pos/mission repping, but really gimped on a roam or small gang by lack of ability to speed tank.
- Eagle. Anemic DPS for a sniper. Extra range rarely comes into play since you want to be with the rest of your sniper HAC fleet at 100km, not 200km+.
- Hawk. Just all-around awfulness in every conceivable way. No DPS, no speed, not enough cap to run the tank it's bonused for.
- Raptor. Eclipsed in every way by the crow. Makes a good shuttle though (warps at 13.5au).
The only time I feel limited by my Caldari specialization is in a large RR fleet. You can armor tank any caldari BS, but resistances suck and you're always primary. It's the one reason I cross trained Gallente BS IV and got into a neut/RR domi.

Caldari are useless for SOLO PVP And by solo I do not mean using your Falcon Alt!!!
Fleets they are good ships. But line them up 1 v 1 against another races ship of the same class and they are toast.
