Get and anti virus, AND PAY FOR IT. Set it to scan every week. Choose a time when most of the time, your computer is open, but you are not using it, like dinner, for exemple. AUTOMATIC SCAN EVERY WEEKS.
Follow this link, read the reviews and buy one. Stop being dumb. So called intelligent community is really not intelligent... at all.

Keyloggers can be difficult to detect and remove, even by the "best" virus and spyware software out there. Your best bet is a combination of:
1. run a browser that can't be wtfpwned by everything on the net 2. a good virus scanner 3. a separate spyware detection and removal tool 4. be careful what you click on, and install, on your pc (this is where the common sense stuff comes in)

winter, most people, like 90% of them, dont know jack-**** about computers, they dont even know that there is an alternative to internet explorer. Believe me, if they get a decent anti-virus and take 2 minutes to go in the setup, configure an automatic scan every weeks, they wont have any problem at all.
Of course, if you are not as dumb as these morons you will also get modzilla or something else as your web browser. But I doubt they will. LOGIC & MORE LOGIC

The problem is that, most "Home Users" (Read, people who do not under stand modern technology beyond turn on, turn off, do stuff in between) turn computers off the minute they are done. There is no time where it is not being used that it is on. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

First, don't presume that you know anything about me, because you don't.
Second, I made my post to help anyone who might have actually come into this thread thinking they might actually get some sensible advice, but instead found an OP with a superiority complex who insults strangers hiding behind his veil of anonymity.
It's fine that you're a jerk, you're definitely not the first around these forums and for the most part you'll spend your time here ignored by anyone who matters. But don't assume you're better than those who aren't computer experts when your own PC could be crawling with rootkits and loggers because you yourself may only be running a single solution.
To finish, there are a couple of flaws in your own solution. Weekly scans mean that if some new threat enters the picture you could be vulnerable to it for days before you even knew you were. Firefox is (probably) more secure than IE, but it is definitely not 100% secure. Relying on it as some sort of foolproof shield means that the common sense stuff I mentioned in my first reply is just not there.
Anyway, have a nice day.

Heh, blane, you are right indeed. But, from my experience with clueless people, they never turn off their computer. Even when they sleep. Anyway, personnaly thats what I do, I have set it the sunday at 6pm because I know I open my computer at 4pm, and I eat at 6pm, so when I eat, my computer is scanned, I get back and I can play in peace.
But yeah, you are right. In the end, it all come down to lazyness. Really, lazyness. They dont read, they dont pay attention when they instal something, they dont want to pay at all, they dont take the time to do what must be done. Its magic thinking, really immature IMO. Really stupid as well.

Superiority complex? Yes, indeed, I have a superiority complex... but in this case, its true. Maybe not over you, but certainly over the clueless mass. Its a fact that I know more about computers than them, so Im indeed superior in this type of thing.
OOOOOOF cooooourse there are flaws. Lol, is it even possible to have flawless solutions? Nope... But god damn it will minimize the hacking by 70% (stats out of my butt) if they follow my advice. Nope?

First, why get Firefox when you can get Opera - the less a browser is used, the less likely it is a vulnerability will be exploited, even assuming equal attention to anti-exploit measures. Second, no, just having one single decent anti-virus put on regular scan and a non-IE browser WILL NOT be enough. You have to know what each of the warnings is good for, and know what to accept or not. Somebody "tricked" to one of those ****spamlinks and stupid enough to click the "yeah, so install that so-called flash player update" will have a pretty amn high chance of ALSO being stupid enough to assume the antivirus warning is also click-throughable, especially if the antivirus does that to other (legitimate) installers... or worse, if the keylogger in question is DESIGNED to fool the user into thinking the antivirus warning is meaningless (and again, particularly true for mainstream antivirus solutions).
Yes, most of the time, the infectee is the one to blame... but not always. And when the one infected is to blame, having a popular antivirus and a non-IE browser will probably not have helped anyway.

Confirming that Opera is a nice browser.
I suggest removing all button and go with mouse gestures (or even custom mouse gestures) and custom menus. Then, one should add a few search engines as shortcuts, so you can quickly type your search directly in the URL line. Eg. "i eve online" to get eve online images with google search if the "i" is the key you decided to use for the search.
Then I would encourage to set the "personal bar" to span over multiple lines and have your most used bookmarks and/or bookmark folders places there.
The thing that I do not like about the Opera browser is the issue of disappearing fav icons. Possibly just a Vista issue somehow.

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 08/08/2009 14:08:22 Firefox, IE and even opera all have vurnerabilities out just now. Just viewing a crafted page with any of those three will result in infection. You do not even need to install anything due to the buffer overflow exploits available on these. And yes, this is on the latest versions of the above software.
Secondly, a Keylogger is not always a virus. It could be but it might not be.
Finally, any idiot can make a keylogger software that can avoid detection by virtually all virus scanners. Even if they use heruistics.
If you want to make a proper suggestion, then do not assume anti-virus software will pick up ckeyloggers and trojans etc and insted go for a specialst detector like The Cleaner or whatever. --

Nah. Happens under XP, OS X and on both the phones I've used it on as well.
That said, hell yes: buttonless UI ftw! I still have a tab row, an adress bar and a status bar, though, because there's just some information I like to have at hand at all times. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

This. tbh.
Different browsers, anti-virus, firewalls, anti-spyware; they are all nice. But they tend to give people a false sense of security. They all the sudden start doing stupid things because they feel safely protected by the software. The amount of times in the last few weeks I've heard "I'm safe, I run Firefox and noscript".
The truth is, common sense is much better then changing software. Just keep repeating to people "Don't click on links that by all logic should not exist and now ask you to install mystery software!".

OP is crazy by the time your pc was infected with the keylogger and your so called virus detector ran at the end of the week and picked it up, your keylogger creater just about got 1 week worth of data. Wow youve got a strong virus protection or antispyware and you will pick up whatever before it infects your computer you say?
Well good sir have you ever heard of someone tweaking there little keylogger program so those things dont pick up on them? There is a reason your spyware and antivirus software has regular updates and most of those arent even new viruses, more like changed and updated viruses. Oh and dont forget about the viruses (which can be keyloggers to) that stays dormant in your pc not doing anything then has a date and time that it will activate your software wont be able to find that in time especially if its a zero day virus.
Im not talking how to protect from it that would be another intense paragraph.

You should never fall into the trap of thinking any browser is 100% secure. Last 10 years of browser technologies have proved as such. Anyhow

You primarily forget that morons, who click these links, and get keyloggers haven't a clue what an antivirus is, how to get it, set it up, and/or use it! They don't know how not to get sick, they don't know what sickness is, they don't know how they got sick, nor do they know how to get better. Lord WarATron, it looks like something that only has to do with an RSS feed exploit and not for viewing pages directly.
I made a screenshot and I'll pass it onto Opera. Though it seem abit old so I am guessing they already know about it.
