Since about a month ago EVE started suffering from a new type of keylogger attack: isk farmer creates new thread in every forum section with ****ographic material and web link to a site that tries to install keyloggers. People who fall for it end up getting their accounts hacked, everything stolen.
CCP has been on the defensive mode - they try to quickly delete all such threads and ban the alt accounts responsible. But defensive tactics are clearly not enough. The rate of attacks has only increased.
We need some ideas on how to go on the offensive. We need to find ways to destroy those individuals. We need to hurt them financially.
I think the first step is for CCP to release all the information they have gathered about the nature of the attacks, the IPs, account details, every little shred of evidence.
If CCP stay on defensive, they will never get rid of this problem.

You should throw one of your faction bs at them pointlessly, maybe that will work.

I forgot to mention: USA has federal law regarding computer hacking and viruses. Our case may be eligible for FBI investigation. EU may have similar laws in place. We need to find people who can provide legal advice, and we need help establishing real identity of the attacker. If CCP asks community help it would have a chance of happening.

Btw IP blocking does not work. Proxies and dynamic IP addresses along with spoofing US and EU IP ranges will remove any form of IP blocks immediately. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

CCP is a business. if and when it's practical, i'm sure they will be capable of seeking their own legal counsel.

I was wondering how possible or practical it would be to have something ajaxy that does a whois lookup on any domain linked, and if it returns a chinese IP, delete it or something.

Take the case to Slashdot; I'm sure NewYorkCountryLawyer (a regular over there) would be glad to offer a bit of advice pro bono. |

There's an easy way to combat keyloggers.
Don't click random links.
It's worked for me for years. --Vel

If you click on a link, and quickly close the window before it loads () are you at risk of getting keylogged?
The one I clicked was the "Look at my different UI setup" one (not a stupid **** one), and right after I clicked it I saw a comment on the thread saying that it was a keylogger and quickly closed the window before anything showed up.
I changed my password immediately after, but do I need to be on a different computer (IP) to be completely safe?
Thanks in advance

I think maybe if we increase the amount of topics per day on this subject from around 500 to over 9000 it will definitely stop the keylogger forum spam. Yep that will do the trick.

If you want extra protection against keylogger, I recommend using this program: http://www.snoopfree.com/PrivacyShield.htm
but if you are too paranoid to trust me or that program, you don't need to click if you don't want to. Google reviews for it - snoopfree privacy shield

Take out HD, scorch it. Only way to be sure. Nuke from orbit if you have resources at hand.

EDITED: make a whitelist for domains that are approved safe to link to.
I think this could actually work.

So.. what do you do after you kill the 7 (or so) red X's with your purple shuttle of doom?
A wreck starts flashing but I can't do anything with it.

The spammer would swiftly change the picture to target the new audience putting you at risk. Would you want that?

Uh, CCP is in Iceland and the malware authors are also probably not in the USA or EU, so have fun(good $@^$ing luck having China or Russia extradite people).

I suspect that most of the key logger scams are being posted by accounts that are currently on their free trail period.
How about prevent trail accounts from posting stuff on the forums. If they are going to post this crap on the forums they will need to have either paid for that privilege or used a GTC Code.
I would assume the loss of income would ensure a quick stop too this.

any topic that has the word hot, sexy, models, schoolgirl, just dont look at it and especially dont click any links that are conained therein.
conversely get firefox plugins adblocker, script blocker, and or a good security suite, kaspersky ftw. and open whatever you want nothing will get on your system less u insist on allowing scripts to run even if they look malicious.
kaspersky is the best security software out there you can purposely go about trying to get your system infected and 90% of the time a page will not even load if its got anything fishy embedded in it, kaspersky will stop it dead and clean it. only drawback to kasper is how resource intensive it can be and for whatever reason it can make some games chug.
surf smart surf safe, walk recklessly and carry a big honking security suite.
