16,000mm plate:
The dynamics of capfights since the time when capitals were introduced have changed dramatically and have rendered the viability of running shield/armor reps ineffective during large-scale capital fights. The biggest difference we see these days is the shear number of caps being fielded meaning huge-untankable-amounts of repable DPS.
In the large-scale 0.0 cap battles, dreads can go down like battleships and activating a rep barely ekes out a few seconds of extra life. I think it would be cool to buffer fit caps by utilizing plates like you would see in a conventional remote-rep battleship fleet. There is the possibility that extreme-buffer dreads could present an imbalance in low-sec battles due to the difference of the number of ships fielded compared to 0.0, so this must be thoroughly balance tested by CCP.
I believe this could bring back some of the prestige and wow-factor back into flying a cap instead of your cap being primaried and popped in 3 seconds.

So, you want to make cap fights more interesting, by increasing buffer?
That is the most crazy idea I have ever heard. Buffers tend to make for dull fights. ________________________________________________ For changes to Minmatar Battleships click here (Now with added summary!) |

Why not make a capital armor/shield mods to tank CS like a CSBS? I mean you can already tank a BS to hell and back with armor or shields. Why not let capitals do the same thing on a grander scale? SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

Sounds good to me, but be sure to also have capital shield extenders so as not to screw caldari -Xindi Kraid: Delivering acerbic wit and scathing comments with just a dash of 'stab you in the eye' |

If 16.000 mm plates (16 meters!) can be added with a noticable penalty to how one manage to fit the ship, then this idea makes sense to me. If it is merely meant to boost the hitpoints of a dread then meh, it doesn't seem that important in changing the way cap fights play out the way I see it.

Actually, plates and shield extenders are allready way too good as they are so adding a 'capital version' based on the current stats is just silly. ALL plates/extenders should have their fitting dramatically increased and only then, based on the new stats could a capital plate be considered.
But I'm still not convinced EVE really needs or wants it.

You know, might be something to look at. However the plate would add some serious serious mass making it require more fuel to jump and the shield....well, capital sig radius is already pretty huge but *shrug* make ships with capital shield extenders get no bonus from tactical shield manipulation along with huuuggee sig radius.

That isn't how jumping works when using the ship itself hope that helps.
It would matter for wormholes and jump bridges and such though.

Edited by: Cors on 21/08/2009 04:19:36 It used to be that the part that took the longest in cap fights was the fight vs lag.
Now though, the large cap fights(Like we saw just a few days ago in the south) lag isn't a big deal if CCP is notified beforehand. So the Dreads die in seconds now. Fleet fights that used to take hours due to lag, now only take 5-10 minutes.
Extending the fight would be help extend the fun of the fights.
So I'm all for having all modules extended into the capital range.

I think the Nag has 6 lows.
6 x 16 = 96 meters of armor. That's roughly the thickness of an American football field.
If that's not a buffer tank I don't know what is.
