Why has no one asked this vitally important question - Will there be mining?!
I for one will be boycotting this if I can't put down my guns for a few minutes of veldspar hunting amongst the chaos.

i have had a bit of a think - and if you can imagine the scale of this it really has the POTENTIAL to be the greatest game ever made, as you could play eve and the go planet side and load dust, the options are just mindblowing
nothing like this has ever been done before so it really is a huge project - and if the speculation is true, imagine the vast scale.........if you thought the eve universe/game was full of endless possibilities its nothing like what it could be if it was linked to a shooter...... how can you not be excited?
(it will take years tho)
(quick edit.........why no pc? i think its becuse eve can run on old pc's - so its to keep eve as "pc friendly as possible - i think anyway)

cause you are in a pod...and are a demigod, and do not dwell on such meaningless matters... at least that's how the story goes

I posted this in a another thread:
Quote: It's a bold move, I give CCP that much.
Without knowing more details it is hard to judge but from what little we have I have a question.
The age and mindset of Eve-Online players and the age and mindset of console FPS players; are they compatible?
I ask this because if Dust influences the Sov mechanics in Eve-Online, that would imply that Eve-Online Alliances would have to include a Dust based component (a land army) in their strategy towards galactic conquest.
Will the two mesh properly?
I think that is the big risk CCP is taking.

Well this sure as hell better not be the new sov mechnic..
Double post but frack it.
From GameSultra's article on todays even
Quote:
In fact, when Dust 514 launches, the map of EVE, currently divined only by player structures owned in the PC game, will also take into account infantry successes and failures within the console game. Players in the PC MMO can "fund mercenaries and give them goals" in the console title.
Interesting?
I still see this as effecting the npc regions of eve like low sec. Hopefully what that means is "in addition to the map being changed by player actions in 0.0 it will also show changes in npc regions for the console players actions."

According to statements from this thread it seems like console players are some kind of lesser mentally gifted human beings, so I think they will be fine taking orders and shoot each other in the face. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

There a chance for a PC version too, acording to these news from 4players.de:
4players.de has talked to Petursson after the show, asking why there will be no PC-Version. Petursson smiled and stated, that he cannot comment on it right now. The only thing he can say at the moment is that there will be ca console version.

I foresee the flow of control being very much like the game, Aces High. Thru attrition, with many fights will wars be won. A 'lone gunman' will probably do very little to effect the outcome.
COSMOS anyone? Community building. Inter webs is a non platform specific thing. A 360 can access a community site just as well as a pc.
0.0 sov? Doubt it, those planets are uninhabited iirc (Would make more sense for it to be an empire type thing, im sure 0.0 will be left alone in that regard) |

I hate consoles -> Consoles only -> EPIC FAIL.
The only fun thing would be to gank them all day long from space
Blow up troop transports, supply transports, raining hell on em orbital bombardment style, that would be OK with me.
Ther that that, if it is freakin pathetic consoles only then CCP sure deserves my hate, it's like kicking most of the playerbase in the nutz.

This is my big worry and it applies to both EVE and dust. If the interaction relies too much on the other game, it can possibly ruin both games, when players don't act like the devs have planned. And if the interaction is insignificant, why waste effort on it.
Currently you can do everything in the game by your own actions and effort. You can't just let people be in charge of their own destiny and then later take away that control and make them rely on actions of players of another game. And again this can ruin the experience of dust players just as easily as EVE players.
Screw the mini expansion patch notes, we need a long and detailed devblog about how these games interact with each other.

Will Dust514 and EvE-Online will be linked activly per Walking in Stations? So will we be able to talk to and meet Console peoples in EvE-Space-Stations? If this would be possible i would look at it in an other way.

The first thing that strikes me from the image is that they're all bald. Which means they're all recent clone jumps. Maybe you can clone jump around systems fairly easily. Setting up HQ strategy areas, CCP have already said that would be one part of Ambulation, why not Dust.
And the second thing that strikes me, which should have been far more obvious to me, is that they're in space. So for a HQ, which will obviously give you a tactical advantage, you need someone playing Eve to set you up a station orbitting the planet. While I don't think there'll be planetary bombardment, fighting over securing a station in space overlooking a planet could be interesting.
And in the second image it looks like they're building ships in the hangar. What if some new ships are introduced that need to be built on planets. You could survive without them, with just the current ships, but if you want the fancy new ones, you have to support the defence of their construction stations for long enough for the ship to be built.

Quite allot of doom'n'gloom here :/
The way I see it, at the moment us capsuleers don't really care much, or interact, with the planets themselves. In 0.0 we fight for control over the gates, the right to mine and build and operate stations and various other structures. The people that live on the planets are left to themselves and their local governments can keep operating at normal (except for the odd capital wreck that crashes on the planet and wipes out a couple of million people).
This made sense for most of us, it's the moons and asteroids that provides us with the resources we want, excluding the odd exotic dancer now and then. So why bother with the lowly humans living on the planets? Well, I guess some of us have had the idea of owning their own little pet planet, get some nice taxes, the planets natural resources to sell off in other systems and maybe even better trained crew when taking parts in fights that involve that planet (same solar system).
And that's where we run into a problem, our way of interacting with a planet involves planetary precision bombing (destroying a town rather than a continent) or planetary obliteration, both of which leaves us without the infrastructure necessary to profit from the planet, and... well... the people to make use of said infrastructure.
So we spend ISK on some proper mercenaries (not the space flying wussies that keep kidnapping the same "damsel" hour after hour) to subdue the locals and convince them that working for us is in fact preferable over annihilation by laser barrages.
And when one person got something, someone else wants to make sure he doesn't (In other words, I'll have faith in CCP in these matters until we get more information on how the games will interact) ------------------- (::) - This is a cookie with chocolate chips, and it's mine! If you disagree; these are my teeth ';..;'

I give CCP ten points for thinking epic. In theory this could be the best.thing.evar(tm) and hey, if this gets us gazillion console guys to feed CCP ISKies to fund further development, that can't be bad for EVE.

Console gamers are an untapped resource. It's really big in asia, where EVE is not so big. My guess is that EVE will continue to be western hemisphere dominated and a lot of eastern hemisphere players will be drawn to the console game. The synergy could boost both games to new heights.
