Same issue.. Been dealing with it for 20 days now. Just got back to EVE, now considering leaving again because of their ignorance of a known problem.
D/C's happen randomly, varying from 5 mins to 1 hour but happen. So much that PvP is out of the question.
Tried internet at a Tim Horton's, my own house (Bell Canada) and my neighbors (Cogeco Cable). Problem still exists.
Have friends over to my home and sharing the internet. No issues for them. Thought it was just a win 8 glitch until seeing this.
Loc FN15 Eastern Ontario, Canada
Asus X55U...
Ok.. So its pretty obvious, that if all of us are having problems, across multiple different machines, with different OS'es, different ISP's, different countries (No, wait, CONTINENTS) and the only common bond we have together is this game and this problem, then it should be very obvious the issue is within the game.
Sort yourself out CCP, I'm getting tired of loosing Retrievers because the socket closes midway through a battle with pirates while i'm mining.
If the game was free, I wouldn't mind so much. But I'm paying for this. |

Same Issue, same duration etc.
Tried all the 'work arounds' nothing helps.
The game is unplayable like this.
I hope CCP address this issue soon. |

Same here and i just started to play the game, but it only happens when im idle or in the base. Well that ive noticed, but just to adress the issue, new players like me, could be easily discouraged from playing when this is a Reoccuring issue that hasnt been fixed, i live in Sweden, 100Mb line, VPN ( does no difference ) no package loss, im not gonna leave an open socket, Steam offline or online makes no difference, OSX or WIN same thing. |

Here's another voice to the chorus.
Socket closed errors are killing me. Similar symptoms to those described above.
CCP, if you can man up and acknowledge this is a big deal that is affecting a diverse segment of your subscriber base, then that's the first step to recovery. We'll never forgive Lance Armstrong until he at least admits that he did drugs.
You wrote the game code, you can fix it to deal with this widespread error. If you do, or at least start, I've got 2 inactive accounts that I'll resub in a second. Don't you want $30 more a month? Otherwise, if this keeps happening, I may unsub my last account. I want to pay to play, not disconnect repeatedly. |

I play EvE on 3+ computers (I have several accounts).
For about 4 years I never had a single Closed socket error.
Now, without doing *anything at all* since the last patch one of my clients (a laptop, nVidia card) gets a Closed socket error at least 10 times a day.
Considering all the computers share the same connection, are all updated, have similar software installed, I don't run any P2P software nor VPN nor Steam nothing, it's very strange to have just one computer constantly with that issue it never had before.
I cleared cache, settings, tried repairing, nothing helps.
Also, the "bug" about getting two well visible, overlapping "socket closed, restart | quit" popups is still here. A testament at how much has been done to even pretend having looked at the issue. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

I had this problem out of the blue last night - I hadn't read anything or seen about this error but got it when I first logged in last night.
Tried again and this time worked ok so thought everything was fine.
My friend and myself then started heading out to do an Escalation in O.O - First gate we get to I jump..... and it crashes eith "Socket Closed" error - My ship ended up the other side but just sat there in a 0.1 system gate with a Pirate camp - Lost everything on my T3 Strategic Cruiser. No warp away, nothing just sat there.
When I tried to re-login again 5 mins later - didn't even get into the game but warped my Pod back to the gate and again just sat there so lost all my implants too!
Now everytime I try and log in I get the error without getting into the game
I run Steam and have never had a problem before - Restarted BT modem/Router - Still cant get in 24hrs later.

Been having the same socket disconnect as everyone else. It has been going on for the last 2 weeks for me. I remember this issue a few years back, but after about a week it went away.
I submitted a petition about it with my Pingplotter LOG with the time I logged in until the time the connection dropped. it usually happens to me between 15min and 1 hour after login. Very unhappy about this problem. It has made playing this game a real drag!
The response I got from CCP was -
You need to contact your ISP about dropped packet issues..... Really?
Come on CCP, just fix it! I think we good paying customers need to be taken care of! And give us all a 30 day TC for our lack of being able to play a game we all pay for.....
I am beginning to think that CCP stand for

I don't normally support CCP reimbursing ship/item loss..
But seeing as I almost lost an expensive ship in a similar fashion I'd say they would be very unfair to not. |

CCP is not to blame.

CCP did things that made many have issues they didn't have before. They can find a better way to do those things that don't contribute to disconnects.
Until they do, I will blame them.

I have recently been having the same issue. Sometimes it happens and one account drops and other times all my accounts drop at the same time. I started looking around and reading through the multiple forums and such and decided to try to do somethign a little different. After being frustrated yesterday from having my Alts booted like every 3 minutes I decided to disable Windows Firewall and install Comodo Firewall and route my DNS traffic to the Comodo DNS servers. I have been going all day today without a single disconnect. Maybe just lucky today but thought I would post anyway. I will post again if this continues to work or not. Since its a traffic issue it could be firewall related and WFW could be closing the incoming connection for some odd reason.
I do know that when CCP released the expasion prior to this one they changed their handshake method a bit. Meaning the client now said hey CCP you there, CCP says yes we are here but what is your client version, you send client version, CCP validates, if ok you log in and if not you get sent to autodownload the client update. This changed their handshake bits from 6 to 7. Because of this it changed their signature and thus it was different for a time from the signature on many providers whitelists so they were getting blocked connections. That should have been fully fixed back in 2010. However it would seem that either there is an issue with the software, a firewall compatability issue, or there are possibly still companies that have not whitelisted the new handshake signature. Just some thoughts and I will keep you all posted as to how my clients are doing after I made the changes today. |

ATM I have open: 4 EvE clients, 2 Istaria clients (another sandbox MMO), 1 GW2 client AND pondering to play WH Online as well.
As soon as I close one EvE client on this computer I am using to post and start it on the other computer (that ran EvE since 2010 with never one error) it dies with Socket Closed within 15-20 minutes.
This also happens after I reboot everything including hub and modem/router and only start 1 client on said computer. Even disabling windows firewall and antivirus.
With this behavior, It REALLY has to be my ISP.
If only we were told what to use to send a petition or report. It's pointless to send a ping / traceroute showing all it's ok including when that computer gets socket closed. There should be something else smarter, like a client trace dump about why the connection died. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

I've now realized, and added to a bug report, that most if not all of my dozen DC's today occured during session changes. Plus, it's taking an insane amount of time to dock/undock even when it doesn't time out.
So there ya go...the problem is entirely on CCP's side; proven by the fact that dozens of different players, with dozens of different ISP's all over the world are suddenly deluged during the same time frame. Fair to say, I've had more DC's in the past week than the previous six years.
Keeping the connection healthy on our side might give the servers as much leeway as possible to avoid timing out; but nothing we do will solve the problem. For me, it started exactly at the point that Dust was patched into TQ. I'll bet rl money that's not coincedence. |
