Anyone want to predict how it plays out?
Will they do the sane thing and remove the DUST from EVE?
Or will they do what is right, and add DUST directly TO EVE, as part of the PC client, as our ground game?
Or will they do the SOE, tell us to "go get stuffed" and start suffering from mass cancellations?
Frankly I am so disheartened by this I not only think I will quit EVE unless they change virtually everything from today's announcement, I won't be subbing to MMO's ever again, since this will represent the second time I've been "baited and switched" by an unethical MMO publisher into a game radically different from that which I played for years.

Originally by: Bestofworst Worstofbest The main fact is this isn't just a cash grab of console players. This is infact CCP expanding their technologies even further, experimenting and testing new ideas. This has the greatest potential of any game.
You have Eve players who ship and hire Dust players around, a new market opens up with weapons and tanks and drops them along with dust members that allows them to take a planet while you siege the systems POSes.
You can have Eve players fly down to the surface to give arial support, drop more DUST pilots off, give them bonuses on the ground.
You have commanders in Dust order where troops are dropped and broadcast where to fight towards.
This game also helps expand on other technologies and pushies other updates forward. API Key will be used more and looked at possibly. You have more updates that will be pushed forward on development life to compliment Dust, such as Planetary flight, graphic updates to planets / moons / other stuff. You're going to see a more dynamic aspect to Eve. And this is more than an awesome idea for Faction Warfare.
What I am astound is how many of these people go about saying BOYCOTT EVE I DONT WANT MY SYSTEMS MATTER ON THE IDIOTS WHO PLAY CONSOLES. You know what you sound like? An idiot who plays on the PC, who thinks he better cause he bought a PC. The fact is you don't know half the stuff beyond what they given us, you don't know exactly how much influence they have, you don't how the alliances and corporations are gonna work, you have no idea beyond speculation and no one here can have a reasonable discussion because you idiots will just BAAAAW until we go back to POS bashing to Sov or Systems in FW.

Yes because a console game that will potentially effect the 19% of eve who live in 0.0 sov space as a small modifier for overall sov totally changes the game from the ground up.
We need better trolls tbh. Maybe dust can bring them in if they also get to poast on the eve forums.

My bet is that they will make asinine assumptions about things they know nothing about and get laughed at for making stupid claims.

Yeah, this is the second coming of NGE. It's shame because now it's de ja vue all over again, first SWG and now EVE.
Hopefully this won't be something that's implemented for quite some time. I don't see myself sticking around once it's released.

You have no idea what the NGE did, if you did you would not be saying this.

Well, in the short term, CCP isn't going to change their minds, a lot of people are going to cancel 37 accounts each, and the overall trend will be unnoticeable in the grand scheme of things.
Long-term, it's a bit hazier. This could either be immensely good for Eve or immensely bad. If the game is a well-made tactical shooter - perhaps even a big enough scale to be a "strategic shooter"? - has solid uptake from the console community, and has enough Eve players to keep the culture of "Can I have your stuff?", then I expect it'll do good things for Eve. We'll be rid of the obnoxious POS spam mechanic, we'll have a whole lot of cool new things to build and sell, and we'll have a bunch of new players who think Dust is cool and join Eve because of it.
If they screw up, it's different(obviously). If the sov system is dependent on people playing a subpar game that's quickly forgotten, this will go down as a major screwup, and could well stop CCP's progress dead. I assume they're not in a poor enough financial position that this could bankrupt them, or anything equally horrifying, but we could well be left with either a nonfunctional sov system or a small group of console gamers being informed that their game's raison d'etre is being thrown out the window because it's dragging down the flagship product, neither of which is an appealing out come by any means.
At this point, I don't care to speculate on which it will be. I'll hope for the good option, dream of some unlikely things that could be done, and wait to see what happens at Fanfest.

If it goes bad, they can always reduce the effect Dusters have on Eve.
