Doesn't get hotter than 30C (90F?) or colder than -10C(around 0F?) The people are friendly, but not too friendly or annoying. Pretty seasons and good countryside. Lowish crime. Computing industry.
Just wonder because I am currently doing a degree in the UK, and likely in a few years will move (back) to the US. Originally I'm from California, but the weather is too hot. So far considering places like Washington, which Vermont and New Hampshire looking nice but lack of jobs likely in my field.

Doesn't exist.
Out of those 5, pick the 3 most important to you and you might get a state or two that falls in there. ♥

I was going to say California but too hot? Wimp.
Seattle - Rain and snow. Washington - too cold In fact everything across the top is scratched out. Florida - Humid and heat in the summertime Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, North/South Carolina, and Kentucky - Too Deliverance and humid. Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah - Melt the asphalt hot Oklahoma - Too windy, bland, and the people think they are gods gift to the world. And a lot of snow.
Might try Hawaii or Colorado.

Edited by: Lerian on 19/08/2009 17:02:01 New Hampshire is pretty nice. although Id suggest living on the south side of the state closer to MA. A lot of the tech jobs will most likely be in the Greater Boston Area (pretty much from Boston out to Route 95 in all directions.) And good luck finding something. Its a battlefield out there.
If you have any other questions about the area feel free to shoot me an eve mail. I live about 10 miles south of Boston.
As for people. You get a mix of friendly (mostly towards outside of Boston and into New Hampshire) to the downright rude. As you get with most cities.
And as for weather, you get pretty much the gammit. Its been up to 100 degrees here (110 heat index with 95% humidity) to below zero. Although those extremes arent too often. Id say normally it gets anywhere between 20 degrees farenheight and 90 fairly regularly through the seasons. And even then the seasons vary widely (had rain for about 23-25 days in June this year). ------------------------------------------ Flying Minmatar is like rolling down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an uzi. -Unknown |

Been to both. Colorado might be nice. I've never considered Hawaii anything but a holiday place.
I lived in southern california, maybe northern is ok.

Move to Texas.
It might be hot here, but there are plenty of other good qualities. People are friendly, unless you're driving. We have 2 seasons here, summer and winter...there is no in between. Crime depends on where you go, but you're going to find it no matter where you live. Do you want to work in IT, software engineering...not sure what you're driving at with computing industry.
My personal favorites are Washington, South Carolina and Texas. Grew up there, went to basic training there and live there now...in that order.

I went to south carolina for holiday last year. Far far too humid in the summer.
CCPs office there was cool to look around though. I am doing BSc Computer Science, so going for programming jobs. Woud love computer games programming (obviously), but not really needed/expected.

I'm assuming you meant 25 not -25. Hehe. But given thats the case then why not just stay in the UK?
None of ths cities I've visted or lived in in North America have had such a small variance in that pleasent range. None of the cities in Canada do, but I havn't really lived on either of the coasts in Canada, so who knows.

Some of the areas near San Fransisco, California are pretty close to what you want.
I live in a city named San Rafael north of SF, and we have everything but the no hotter than 90F (But we don't go much hotter).
Its a very hilly area, so there isn't very much kids playing with the local kids on the stree, because the soccer ball may roll down the hill and they would never get it back. So, everyone plays video games instead. But, there is a Best Buy here so you might want to try the neighboring city (Literally connected to San Rafael, but technically its another city) San Anselmo, they don't have many huge computer shops there.
There are only 2 crimes that have happened here over the past 3/4 years, and both were people who were driving and evading the police. One of them got caught, the other crashed into a power pole and knocked out power to a small area for a day. ------------------------------------- My other alt is A Ferrari

Anywhere in SoCal, so long as you're not living too far inland. Stay near the ocean. I'm stationed in San Diego and it rarely gets over 85 down on the waterfront.

From what I know of The US states, from general knowledge and experience from travelling to many of them (I think I'm up to 10-11 now!) I don't think there's one that can fully match all your criteria. The thing with weather in particular is a tough one...the UK is considerably *warmer* (comparatively!) than it should be considering its lattitude. It should be as cold as Canada but all seasons are much milder in comparison.
Without the weather systems that cause that effect, Summers are hotter and Winters are colder...as is evident more or less everywhere in the USA and Canada. The closest I think you can come to comparable climate to the UK is New York, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, New Jersey and around the north and east of the country. There's still bad snow but it's likely the closest you can get. Vancouver & Seattle also aren't too bad but they do get LOTS of rain! Much less snow though.
Most every state without fail will have as much beautiful countryside and suburban areas as they do cities and urban sprawl. Almost every one of the 50 is at least as large as the entire UK and have just about every type of land between them. Many are within driving distance of a beach for the Summer and a ski resort for the Winter. And the US is much better prepared for "adverse" weather than the UK. SE. England gets 2" of snow and the country comes to a standstill...here in the US they plough/and salt the roads well so it's practically business as usual.
Regards to software development houses, you may want to consider that as the main factor for any choices you make. Without somewhere to work the rest is more less moot. I know there are some very big names in California, particularly San Francisco (IIRC Adobe and Sega among others!). MontrTal, Canada is home to Ubisoft and EA and I believe BioWare are based in Toronto. EA have plenty of other studios around the US. And of course there's always Richmond if you don't mind working for Mr. Balmer!
Anyway, don't we have any good dev studios in the UK? Eidos just got bought by Square Enix and AFAIK have frozen recruitment at present but that might change soon :-) Maybe you can work on Hitman VI! -------------
