What a load of crap. The majority of my gamer friends are not unhealthy in any way. The fact that this study was done in the USA makes it biased IMO. __

Where is your counter study? Your comment is depressing to read unless you have anything to say that is of value. And people do tend to put on weight when they sit and play games. --

You're admitting you're fat and depressed?
I weigh 64.5kg and I'm 5'8 that's ideal weight maybe its because I don't eat junk and I'm certainly not depressed.

I am fat and depressed Literally swathed in a tumultuous wash of depressing, jiggling fat rolls.
I tried to cut my wrists but I couldn't find them. I tried to jump off the roof but I just bounced back in through my window (And it had taken me SO LONG to get up there..)
IT'S ALL GAMES' FAULT! NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FOOD I EAT!

All joking aside, they got it the wrong way round (but stating it the right way would make for less headlines). Playing games is a form of escapism, playing games a lot means you need a lot of this escapism thing. If you need that it means you're not happy with the situation you're in IRL, which means you're probably going to be depressed about it. Depressed people have less attention for their appearance and because they play so much they also excersize less.
TL;DR, depressed people want to take their minds of the daily crap, one of the options is playing games. NOT the other way round.

Studies are useless. They ignore actual functionality of the reality on the matter and just state what they were paid to state when interpreting the observed matter. It's a pseudo science. -------- Ideas for: Mining

Hardly any gamers I know are fat. It takes a little more than that to put on weight
I eat like a horse sometimes and up until about 3 years ago didn't do any exercise; I've not moved from 60KG for as long as I remember

The majority of your gamer friends isn't same thing as the majority of gamers. This is all based off on an internet survey of 562 adults from Washington state. So yes, Einstein, this is going to be centric to the USA. Not to mention it isn't a very big sample. I think you are reacting more to the wording of yahoo's blurb than the actual study. Whatever.
Replace video games with alcohol. There are social drinkers and there are alcoholics. Alcoholics are unhealthy and miserable while those that drink socially aren't as likely to be depressed. Self-medication isn't that radical of a concept. Don't get your panties in a wad if someone suggests some people might do the same with video games.

I weight 220 lbs but I'm also over 6 foot, have a good bit of energy, and had a ton of obesity problems when I was a child (before I was that into gaming). And I always seem to go between 220 and 200 lbs.
Anyway, I'm shy as hell irl but not at all depressed unless I think about a love one. Maybe the people of the survey just don't understand what the hell they feel? ________________________________________________

HERE is your problem. im 19 and from seattle. i am 6'3" and 200 pounds. a little overweight, but its not that bad. i also suffer from mild depression, which isnt that bad, but it really gets to me some days. however, i can say that for 9/10 people in seattle. EVERYONE is slightly overweight here. EVERYONE has some form of depression. but this is why:
Seattle has the 2nd highset suicide rate in the US during winter months, rivaled only by chicago. 9 out of 10 days will be cloudy and cool. we also get ridiculous amounts of rain here, discouraging people from going out and exercising. the weather is dark and gloomy most of the year, with july june and august being MOSTLY nice. however, seeing as its august now and its been cloudy and cool for the better part of a week, its rare.
we play video games and watch lots of movies because of the weather. when its Grey day in and day out, you generally stop going outside. so we find other ways to entertain ourselves.
also, again. if it rained off and on for 54 days straight, i assure you most people would be getting depressed. that number was taken from a storm 2-3 years ago. and i can honestly say it sucked.
do not blame video games for obesity and depression. this weather was around long before video games.
EDIT: i forgot to mention. there is a significant difference between being overweight and out of shape. i may be slightly overweight, but by no means am i out of shape. never assume since someone says they are overweight that they are blobs of fat in a chair. i know for a fact that i can bike 25 miles in 1 go, which i think is more than most here can say _______________________ with a name as trustworthy as mine, i cant POSSIBLY be an alt

Not very useful without the populations. The site also ranks them by rate per 100,000. Wasington is number 18 (after a bunch of sunny places lol) but that's still high up on a list thats 51 long.

ok so you would call me overweight when i am 6''1 and weigh 230 pounds but i still can run a mile in 7:20 which is pretty good for the way i am built. lol. and i play football and wrestle and some ******* is saying that im fat? for some reason this doesn't sound quiet right. cause every mourning i run 5 miles and then go to school and after school i practice at (American) football for 4 hours. so stop being so stereo typical. also many studies can be made to side the view of the person who is attacking the subject. so please don't be so ignorant.

Although I found a rediculous number of suicide stats with crap like "people commit suicide because their cat is black and not white"...

Trustworthy Joe, I know where you're coming from. I've also spent a great number of years in Washington State to include Seattle and, more significantly, on the Olympic Peninsula. I was raised in the rain-forest around Forks. What's worse is that I also spent nearly eight years in Alaska -which probably explains why I'm so whacked.
