I just recently started playing, and have a person trying to kill me. He has even said that if I leave the corp he will suicide me just to kill my mining ship.
What can be done about this? Or should I just give up the game? |

People like him always have a few other enemies around. Make friends with them and turn making his life miserable into your new hobby.
Or just ignore him. Dogs that bark alot seldom bite.

Just make sure you are not in the same system as him... or talk to your corp director, if he does not clear it up move corps. ------- "Because the Dominix is the Chuck Norris of Eve!" |

If you can't think of a half a dozen ways to counter then probably so...
Some hints (assuming random suicide gank): 1) mine with a bs fit for buffer 2) use logistic ships to remotely rep 3) make it cost him more for each suicide attack 4) if you must mine then try and do so else where 5) mine in higher sec or mission roids 6) use your kill rights to get revenge

Edited by: Nika Dekaia on 23/08/2009 21:17:15 He will suicide if you leave your corp. What corp? A player corp? Why not just stay in the corp?
Are you sure you didn't do anything to upset him? Why would he target one specific new player with no ISK (presumably in a player corp) he has no relation to?
Why would he lose ISK on suiciding you if you didn't do anything wrong in the first place? Doesn't make sense.

First, welcome to eve-online. Second, find a way to fight back or run and hide.
If your in a corp they can help by flying with you, mining with you/missioning with you etc. If not feel free to join mine, we don't mind being war dec'd in fact we've been known to encourage it.
Eve is a pvp game. It revolves around it and it is the basis for eve's continued existence, once you come to terms with this and learn how to defend yourself and combat problems that arise for you in eve.

Why do you believe him? And if your new the insurance payout is more than the cost to replace anyway, so what does it matter if he blows you up. And what is 'the Corp' his and yours or just yours? Why do you think he will bother with you anyway, just because he said so?
Anyway join a decent player Corp and your sorted.

Thanks for the input.
How easy/hard is it to suicide a battleship or hulk before concord arrives? I mine in 1.0 or 0.9 sectors nothing low. I don't have many sp, so it makes it real hard to fight 2-3 jaguars, and a drake.
He wanted me to pay him 10mil a week.
I am just in a small upstart corp, and we kind of were learning the game together. None of us have had much time to put sp to combat.
Thanks again for your ideas and suggestions.

Ok then that's different as he is looking for payment. Hire Mercs maybe or try and form a realtionship with a PVP corp. It seems strange he is not wardeccing you so I assume its just him and a few mates.

1. Leave Corp. 2. Mine in a Battleship. Assuming you can't use a Hulk. 3. Wait for him to fire on you. 4. Enjoy the fireworks! (this would be Concord killing him) 5. Repeat until he gets tired of trying....

Mine somewhere else in a ship that has some buffer and is not easy to kill, until you can afford to replace a mining barge.
Also mine in t1 missions, making it harder to find you.
Most of all tho, look through the recruitment forum here and find a corp that has decent members, ive never heard of anything as ridicolous as your story - anyways, get mates that can support you should he really become a bother.
With a bit experience he cant really hurt you. -

This, right here, is your problem. Corps come with risks and responsibilities, including the risk that someone will wardec you, and the responsibility to deal with that wardec. You don't need to be in a corp to play with friends. If you start a corp, you need to have a plan to deal with the inevitable extortion-dec. Hire mercs, learn to fly combat or just disband your corp and go back to NPC corps. Make sure you're ship's insured and let the extortionist suicide gank you. It'll cost them more than you lose by a loooong way.
It's too easy to set up a corp without knowing what you're letting yourself in for.

To add to Kezzle....
Forming your own corporation is a responsibility in Eve. Unfortunately, there is no "What to Expect" manual. Your forming of a corporation is most likely about getting ahead in Eve with the assistance of fellow pilots. Eve being a risk/reward game, you're not going to reap the rewards without sticking your neck out.
The saddest part of this whole deal is the reluctance of people to actually fight for what's theirs. Fit a few T1 frigates and declare war on the offending corporation. If nothing else, you and your corporation will form a tighter bond while weeding out the weaker members. If all goes well, you'll get some laughs out of it and an education in how to defend yourselves, along with the pride of knowing you fought for what you have instead of folding like a two-dollar lawnchair and running back to NPC corp. Sadly enough, most corporations do the latter.
It boils down to two things:
1- Are you willing to fight for it, or are you going to fold?
2- A small-scale war like this will teach you more about your corporation and EVE than this forum ever can.

You've only just started playing but you're in a hulk and a battleship! Either you've bought the character or this is an attention seeking topic that needs to be locked.
If you're new to the game you shouldn't be in a hulk yet, no where near in fact, even less than a Battleship!
PS: Whatever you said or did you shouldn't have.

Save chat logs and eve-mails of him threatening you. If he actually starts chasing you around and suiciding you, petition him for harassment. Normally, just suiciding someone isn't petitionable. It's a part of eve. But if it's clear he is just harassing you for no reason, threatening you and going out of his way to make your life hell, you can petition him. It may take CCP some time to investigate it, but is not allowed to simply grief the heck out of one particular person.
Most people in EVE probably assume you cannot do anything because there's a lot of stuff you can do that might annoy someone else, but isn't really harassment. But I've seen many cases where a specific individual has been harassed above and beyond simply playing the game and CCP has stepped in. If you go too far CCP will do something about it. ----------------------------------------------------

I've gotta side with Sidrat here. If you're that new and flying a Hulk or BS he probably (and most likely correctly) assumes that you either bought a character or bought ISK. Thus he assumes that you've got no idea what you're doing, and that you have a lot of ISK to spare. A reliable source of 10mil/week is pretty good for no work on his part after all.

Well obviously the OP's played the game long enough to have his portrait appear on the forums. Its also obvious that the OP has not spent any time on pvp. So give him a break.
That being said, welcome to EVE.
You say trying to kill you. Has he? Is there a war dec? If not, the stat loss on a suicides will quickly keep him out of a 1.0 or .9 system. If there's a war dec, get into some ships you can afford to lose, and go have some fun. Its a game. Don't pay him nada.
