Today i decided to move my ice mining operation and packed my two mackinaws into my hauler (an itheron mk3 with 3 cargohold optimization rigs) and on my way someone decided the 2 mackinaws were worth the effort to suicide gank me, so with a brutix they one shotted me, concord stepped in and killed him, and to my delight none of the two macks survived. (hehe) I still lost over 200mill worth of property. I decided to buy a new mackinaw for me (leaving me with only a few million isk left) and my alt would have to borrow my hulk. so i get a cheap hauler and pack the hulk into it and head off. jumping manually this time. But i got hungry and decided i got to get some food. so i'm away 5 minutes and it's autopiloting in the meantime. When i got back all there was left was my pod.
My corp is NOT at war, and at least the first time i know concord shot him up just before his buddy went in to retrieve the loot.
I cannot play this game any more after loosing 300+ mill in 3 hours in socalled "HIGH"security setting me back to the stoneage. No wonder people are bying ISK.
all for the pirates to earn 30-50 mill? maybe less. I'll be leaving eve and stopping my subscription and there is a big chance i won't be coming back.

I know a LOT of pirates are going to write here and try to trifle this and say **** happens. but i can't take it, that's what we have lowsec and nullsec for.
I propose that if someone gets blown up by concord or faction navy insurance is rendered void, and maybe a fine is presented on top of this say double the amount of skillpoints the character has. if he cannot pay then run his account in negative.
Btw i probably will never post here again. but if ccp decides to do this and want me back as a subscriber they have my mail adress.

yeah, suicide ganking is a problem for alot of people, but CCP has said time and time again that space is dangerous and that **** can happen if you're not careful.
Either way, i am slightly inclined to say that you're not the only one with this roblem ad you should stop whinning

I usually agree with the "tough ****" crowd, but I really don't like the high sec suicide gank. I just think its kind of gamey, its something a goon would do.

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 23/08/2009 23:54:19 So you took an untanked t1 industrial around hisec with over 100m ISK in goods and are surprised when you left in a pod?
Let me tell you a story. One day, I had hundreds of millions of ISK worth of loot and salvage and I wanted to transport them many jumps to Jita for sale. The items were spread out over three stations, one which was 12 jumps away.
Rather than use the t1 industrial I had sitting there, I got my Mastodon and fit it with two WCS, a damage control, and a shield buffer. I hauled 16k M3, stuff that was worth about 600m ISK, to Jita and sold it for massive profit. I never autopiloted, always WTZ. If I was attacked, I would have had enough tank to survive, or at least stay alive long enough to warp out thanks to the +4 warp core strength (2 base + 2 WCS). I got there safely and made a massive profit.
There's a moral to this story, young one. Don't haul expensive **** in untanked t1 industrials. Don't go AFK while hauling a lot of stuff, ever.

By undocking your ship, you are taking a risk. Accept it and get over it. This is eve. Not WoW.
Concord is not there to prevent crimes, just to punish for them.

Edited by: SupaKudoRio on 24/08/2009 03:12:11 Good riddance. If you're stupid enough not to tank your haulers, using autopilot on top of that, you deserve everything you get. I doubt CCP will miss your 0.00001% contribution to their profits to boot.
Edit: It's stupidly easy to recover from losing everything. Get a cheap t1 frig and go along with friends on a few L4s doing salvage duty for them.

Edited by: Washell Olivaw on 24/08/2009 04:08:40 CCP already took several steps to reduce hi-sec piracy and suicide ganking. Given that the threads about went from one every hour to one every week I'd say they might actually have gone a bit too far.

While losing all your stuff sucks and is sad, you should of had the foresight to prevent this, especially by not flying out shortly after getting ganked the first time. If you do decide to stay, think ahead a bit more before you jump. ---

Two RL aspects of EVE that I like that should teach people about the real world:
Nothing is ever 100 secure. The cops in this game are like real cops: they are better at drawing chalk around the bodies than actually preventing the murder.
And everybody should have a gun.

Sorry to hear about your losses but as much as I would like to have high sec pirates disappear I have to agree with the others: Such losses are largely preventable.
Autopiloting T1 Industrials just scream: Shoot here.
* Don't Autopilot * add some buffer and stabs. * Preview your route's kill statistics * Reduce align time by warping to a better suited moon/station/planet * Use a tougher or more inconspicuous ship for transport * Contract the stuff * Get a remote rep escort
There are plenty of options to increase your chances. None of these will make your perfectly safe but the more effort you put into it the more other player become easier targets than you... ---------------------------------------------- The glass is neither half full nor half empty. Cry me a bloody river. You should have docked instead of autopiloting You should have tanked up your indy.
Two simple solutions that could have saved you 300M+ ISKs.
Oh boo hoo, you're leaving are you? Most people won't actually give a crap whether you're staying or leaving.

Ok i will give it another chance, but i have played this game for a year now and done this many times without incident that it happened twice in just a few hours (20 jumps apart and totally different pilots and corp, same shiptype for some reason) on top of that my computer started flipping out and i just lost it.
I still think ccp should void the insurance if the killer is concord or faction navy though. In RL if you decided to rob a bank and your car gets full of bulletholes from cops trying to stop you, you won't get any insurance for that car.... it would raise the amount lost for the pirate and thus they would need a bit bigger bait to go for.
And i didn't start to play eve to fight spacefights, i will be the one dealing out the arms to rivalling sides though hehe. someone else can take on the dying part....

Incidentally, those "HIGH" sec systems are full of NPC pirates as well - why would you be surprised that there are a few pod pirates too?

DONT afk in haulers, freighters, or jump freighters. People do use cargo scanners to gank haulers with high value cargo all the time.
Fit sheild extenders and or an invunerablity field as this can often save your ass long enough for concord to intervene.
lastly try using an orca to move your maks as they have huge shields (with extenders) making them pretty much suicide gank proof (unless their suicide gank fleet is large)

yes, giving insurance payouts for concordoccened people is kinda ridiculous, no insurance should be paid for them.

Actually, this is the only point in this thread where I will disagree:
Talk to any good sci-fi author and they will tell you that the *key* to a good sci-fi story is suspension of disbelief. (Check out David Gerrold's sci-fi author guide, for example). A technology or event in a fictional story doesn't have to be present-day possible, but it must be *plausible* in order for the reader to believe.
The OP's idea of voiding insurance for suicide is actually a very good one: Any insurance policy you buy has a clause specifically voiding it for suicide (If you're too young to actually have your own life insurance, ask your parents to see theirs). Same thing with car insurance: If you blow up your own car, you can bet your bottom dollar you're not getting paid out on it. Same thing if you're involved with a police (Concord) chase. If you flip your car (Gate guns take you out), your insurance will pay you *zero*. CEO - Sisters of Agony |

Edited by: Kayakaue on 24/08/2009 14:49:30 They are some big problem with suicide gank.
With 5 frigate and some basic skill and rigs. You have the possibility to destroy one hulk in high sec before the concord come.
Sorry but it's a big problem for the game play. Because you need about 3 month to pilot the hulk. And after that it's not possible for you to tank some stupid suicide gank with only three days.
If you try to mine with retriever or covetor good luck for you. It's impossible to tank 2 basic fregate.
