Guys,
So i put on 10 invention jobs for some frigates the other day (wont say which! ;) ) and used my +9 decryptors as standard.
Anyway, i was wondering if they changed invention because i got 4 sucesses instead of the usual 2, so i've made 220,000,000 isk profit instead of the usual 80m or so.
CCP keep it this way i like it better! hahaha

There are two ways to treat invention; as a short term gamble or as a long term investment. For such a small sample set a difference of 2 should not be seen as statistically significant. Since you've made out so well, you could take your earnings and run and never look back. However if you plan to stick with invention, don't spend all of that in one place as your long term profits must take into account that you can't reasonably expect to be lucky every time. I only mention this because based on contracts it seems that there are plenty of people who are ripping themselves off by selling their invention results for lower than they can sustain in the long term when their success rate balances out. People are of course free to do so, but it's something to think about if you are considering invention as a long term business endeavor.

Why do I get the feeling the datacores you farm yourself are free, decryptors you find yourself are free and the base items you manufacture are free because you built them from minerals you mined yourself for free? ------ Dare to challenge me? |

Because your too cynical. I buy EVERYTHING! Well, I manufacture my T2 components but buy the moon minerals. All comes from Jita. I do not mine. Mining is for gays. Moon mining is too much hassle.
I have a passive income through invention (well semi passive) and my alt just pvp's all the time out in 0.0.
And anyway, if you get datacores through R&D agents, they ARE free!

This. Some days I get a 1/5 success, others 3/5. Yes, my skills suck...and I don't use decryptors ($$$).

Hi - I have been looking at using decryptors for invention but don't the +9 ones (like Interface Alignment Chart for Caldari) make it so unprofitable as to negate the extra runs?
I was looking at using Installation Guides but from my (probably inaccurate spreadsheets) it seems that even with an extra 4 runs, the additional change to the ME level will kill any profit.
am I missing something here?

K, you're getting closer. You received the car. The car was worth $$. You either sell it to someone else for $$, or you sell it to yourself for $$. You receive a datacore. It's worth <ISK>. You either sell it to someone else for <ISK> or you sell it to yourself for <ISK>.
Nothing is free.

It really helps to keep statistics over time so you don't get overly excited, or upset, because of any one set of attempts.
For my non-ship invention, I've had 1,271 successes out of 2,611 attempts for a success rate of 48.67%. For the items with 300+ attempts, the percentages are closer to what would be expected. Items with 100 or less attempts have success rates ranging from 22% to 58% (all for modules and ammo).
