Just finished the Amarr epic arc.
I can say I enjoyed it, it was a pleasant, often chalenging experience.
But...
I didn't see much branching... I chose once not to go into lowsec, for two reasons : -I would have needed a smaller ship to get through gatecamps, and smaller ships have less firepower, I guess we would have needed to be 3 to get there with AF and do the job. -The agent was from true power : no, I won't be working for the sansha. I only kill the cybernetic zombies, I don't intend to be friend with them. Anyway, they hate me too (something around -8).
Going to lowsec is a thing, working for sansha is something else. I didn't go check where the agent was placed in the lowsec system, but if it's a fixed beacon, it's the real great thing to camp.
Rewards : -It was stated higher rewards for lowsec, but it looks like it's impossible to have higher rewards working for the Amarr? Higher rewards only if you get to work for pirates... Nah, I'll pass. -A friend started the gallente epic arc and I helped him on a few missions, the rewards were huge on several missions, around 5-7M, I've not seen this in any amarr missions, even the ones I was killing ships without bounties. -The final reward : a dual 2% armor/repair implant is... Weak? Yeah, weak, I'd rather use the one available on the market that will add 5% armor. Seriously, 2% (or any less than 5% in a specific area) is not the type of implant the players capable of running these missions use. Make it a dual 3% and it's a bit better, but a dual 4% would be rightfully called epic.

Edited by: Pottsey on 28/08/2009 08:21:47 I hope you don't put all this down to just fanboys who are never happy. There are far too many unhappy people for that.
"Cool modules and equipment to use and play with? Yep. We didn't forget about those. I won't tell you exactly what we have in store, but I can tell you that each of the four arcs has at least one unique reward." This is just one big joke. There are complaints after complaints. Many of the so called unique reward's are either useless, not worth it or worse than the normal rewards it's based on. Why pick a 2% shield recharge, 2% hitpoint implant in a low sec mission when a normal 5% hitpoint implant gives more HP regen and more hitpoints? (Unless I got the math wrong) Going from 80km to 82km, or 100km to 102km drone range is an extremely poor reward. Going by contracts most people are value that at 2milllion, hardly rewards worthwhile for an epic.
Some of the Caldari rewards are worth 100+ million, some of the Ammar and Gallente rewards are worth 2million or only worth it for like 5 players who collect items.
"The story forks: Do you want to risk your ship for the greater rewards of lowsec?" What went wrong? Some of the low sec rewards are worse than highs sec.
"However, this will not just be wave after wave of battleships and elite cruisers waiting for you after each gate." What went wrong? For the Gallante arch that's pretty much all I had. It was warp in, aggro everything wait for drones to kill, move on. It was just wave after wave of battleships and elite cruisers waiting for you after each gate.
Apart from one mission which was warp in, go though a gate over 20km away, I think it was repeat 3 times for 3 gates for what appears to be no reason, find out you need a salvager, fly 5jumps to get a salvager, fly back then wait as you fly though all pointless gates again. I don't have an issue's needing different modules. I have an issue with not knowing you need those modules with lots of 20km or more pointless gates.
The Gallante epic arch has far to many pointless timesyncs. In short the Gallente story was very bad and the missions felt like standard level 4 missions with just waves of rats at gates with a very poor unique reward. There was no challenge either just warp in, aggro and wait. Apart from one exception no different styles of play in the path I took. Not to mention all the bugs, far too many at one point I got stuck for over 24hours due to bug. I also had the good guys in white ships not like my drones and start firing on my drones which in return blow up all the white good guys. At one point my drones killed the NPC I was ment to talk to as the agent shot my drones. Agents not wanting to talk to me without waiting hours at one point 24hours. Mission text repeated x3. One point I was offered over 5 branches for one mission, nice bug there. ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

Originally by: Pottsey Epic wave of lvl4 mission and pointless timewasters etc.
From the first anouncements of epic arcs bringing forth vast changes to the missioning system i was excited ... untill i tryd the first 2 missions of the first arc (the lvl1 one)
from that point on it was evident that the only change was in conjunction with agent interaction overhaul (wich btw brought us an aditional click to turn in a mission .... ) and an aditional tab in the journal .... wuuuuu .... huuu....
neither is the art of storytelling something special ... its just more and more text that you have to click away emediatly to not die or just get borred of reading so much dribble after mission 10 its just not immersive
but is that the fault of the guys who came up with the stories and cobbled the arcs together ? no .... they just lack the tools to do it propperly
lots of text does not immersion make at least some voice reading in local that a taunts b and b says hes gona shoot a and after 2 seconds (i.e. the time it takes to load the deadspace area) you just see explosions and red/white things simply dissapear .... meh
at the bare minimum the music should be paced to whats happening at the moment (that that requires sound people actualy want to turn on is a diffrent problem) a logical next step would be to have aura anounce certain things and nudge you along with a word now and again ... if they hadnt axed aura completly having audio chatter in missions can actualy do allot for imersion
a "cutscene" needs more than a bit of text be it a window or local or whatever and 3 seconds of some icons pretending to shoot eachother till one half explodes and the other half vanishes
having red icons sitting arround orbiting something and not reacting to anything into infinity is also obviously very very immersive
sending somebody 10 jumps away to talk to an agent once wich arbitrarily cant be remotely talked to isnt a story device ether
from a story perspective... giving somebody the choice to slaughter ... or to slaughter .... or to slaughter somebody completly diffrent in a far away place yeah ... awesome ... why dont i just run worlds collide 20 times for 2 diffrent agents i can fight sanshas and angels and sanshas and serpentis then ... thats just as interesting
again i dont blame the writers or the people who brought it to live that much they cant do something "epic" without the necersary tools and in the eve pve case all you got is a selection of npcs and how many to dump in the room

CCP should have the tools, we keep getting new blogs along the lines of "we're very excited to have a number of new tools we can now really begin to put into use." "It may not seem like much, but from a story perspective, it opens up a ridiculous number of options-"
Yet we never see anything new in game. Just the same old wave after wave of NPC's. Just when are we going to get decent PvE? Just when are we going to get decent missions or is it just wait for more blogs about more great tools that seem to have zero impact on missions.

Sounds really Nice, really. I would love to do one of the new epic arcs. But i will not grind hundreds of Level 4 missions just to get the required 6.8 faction standing. Sorry. No.

Dagobert Dog said "But i will not grind hundreds of Level 4 missions just to get the required 6.8 faction standing. Sorry. No." It's not that bad, a few Cosmos missions and hand a few tags in for faction standings and you are pretty much already there. You might have to do a few missions but only a few.

possible yeah exept for those of us who wish to safely traverse all empires those have to run a bunch of missions for some obscure corp
as for the numerous blogs including shiney new tools yeah in detail they where just augmentations to existing possibilities hyped up like prety much everything has been hyped lately ... quantum rise comes to mind, with the 5 devblogs and a 10 minute video repeating over and over again how they created a single ship ....

You can bet your sweet ass they are!
Epic players as the ones MOST afraid of lowsec. Not afraid, no, downright TERRIFIED. They're the ones in highsec hugging constellations with ZERO lowsec mission risk, they're still in their starter or other NPC corps, or they'll be sure to jump corp within hours of a war being declared.
Epic players are carebears to the core, and any sniff of 0.4 to 0.1 will send them scuttling to more banal mission zones. 0.0, now, they're not so afraid of nullsec... but lowsec terrifies them like nothing else.

Well it's been confirmed the low sec Sansha modified epic reward gives worse hitpoints and worse HP regen then the normal implant it's based on. I wonder if CCP will ever comment on all the problems with epic missions? Will the rewards get fixed? Are CCP even aware many of the rewards are useless and the low sec rewards like the Sansha one are worse than the high sec reward? ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

Yeah, but missions runners have no real reason to spend much time in 0.0, CCP will not make it so alliances can install mission agents in their stations. As for the Amarr Arc, I've only done the first 4 missions so far and there is nothing to write home about. Over all rating = LAME

The rewards need to be massively upped to make the epic arcs anything other than for harcore RPers. As it is, the caldari unique lab reward is the only one worth working towards. Please buff the rewards on all of these CCP, and possibly up the difficulty on some of the missions too.

Caldari Arc: Penumbra
Liking what I've seen so far. Actually lost a ship to NPC's cant remember the last time that happened. ( damn spider drones )
Hit a few problems with "The Breakout".
1) The mission description was a bit misleading. Have to find a plex in constelation Aokinen thats in a "low-sec" system. There are no low-sec systems in Aokinen the plex was actually in a 0.5 system which is high-sec
2) I used my "AC-106" key to get into the complex only to find out then that I needed a codebreaker fitted. No clue that this would be needed is given in the mission brief. After fetching a codebreaker I could no longer get back into the plex because my key had been consumed alleady :(

What I've gathered from the posts here is that much disappointment exists in regard to the rewards. Please consider granting LP with the missions to lesson the disappointment. Why is LP Not given

Perhaps you will consider running missions for the corps instead. With maxed social skills, it doesn't take that long to get the necessary corp standings. I just finished running missions enough to allow me to run all four level four epic arcs. Having done that, I'm starting first with the Amarr arc, "Right to Rule". The first mission took my battle cruiser to a hair's breadth of destruction. I had to dock where reinforced bulkheads were available. Three of the tech II variety got my stucture up to 50%

"All existent Epic Arcs, Blood Stained Stars, Penumbra, Right to Rule, Syndication, and Wilfire, will now provide faction standing bonuses associated with the chosen ending upon completion." -from the Dominion patch notes. Uh Oh! I wonder how much. Serious! How much of a faction standing bonus is granted upon completion of the various epic arc missions? I need to know whether or not to decline the last mission.
Thank you.
