First, you should know that the overview has a bug atm. Seems to me, that if you load a preset into a tab, and add someting to the overview (that tab), then repeat the same on another tab, flipping throught the two tabs now screws up the overview only listing one on both.
---
- You can have 5 tab's and that seem practical. Added via the overview settings menu. - You will need to save presets for the overview, for listing in the overview - You will need/would want, to save presets for the brackets, seen on screen.
The brackets are saved as presets the same way you make and save a preset for the overview.
When you load a preset for a tab on the overview, you can also load a preset for the brackets.
---
I would suggest to make a hotkey for toggling the brackets: Ctrl + Page Up = toggle all brackets/saved brackets Ctrl + Page Down = toggle no brackets/saved brackets

Edited by: Belkadan on 25/08/2009 17:08:01 have minimum 3 different tabs for combat (on top of your normal navigation overview):
1)Bad guys (bad ppl on overview only -- include neutrals ffs) 2)Good guys & Bad guys (bad guys + ppl in fleet/gang/who are blue to you) 3)Drones (nuff said) ^^^adjust overview tab states accordingly

As little as possible. My main (solo / small gang) PvP overview only has Gates + all ships, then I have small variations on those which list drones (put it on another tab so you can quickly swap to it) and the likes - when I need to scan ratters I just add belts temporarily. All brackets on except moons, generally.
In bigger fights you want to do a bit of tinkering with brackets (unless you have a beast of a PC). A great idea is to remove drones in the first place as you don't need to see them constantly. Then you can also use the Alt + Shift + Z (I think it is?) shortcut to toggle hiding and showing all (except moons) brackets. This is very handy for massive fleet battles, but if you're just entering into PvP it won't be an issue for you just yet.
Just focus on keeping it simple. Sort by distance (closest at the top) and only list the most necessary things (Gates aren't strictly necessary, I just hate right-clicking when travelling and you always need them for scanning purposes anyway).
Of course, play with it and do what works for you, just listing suggestions.
