Whoah whoah folks. You're all working for the same thing right? Inelegant criticism aside, it sounds like the shebang thing might work.
I'll be taking the (modestly priced) Leopard plunge soon and give all the suggestions in this thread a shot. I also was monitoring the original thread, and it seems that the author made a small fix so that Python 2.5 might be able to work now. Not sure which version comes with Leopard, but it might take a step out of the installation process.
I've been flailing around with this one for a while, but I'm determined to get it to work, dammit.

You should install Python 2.6 regardless... as Snow Leopard comes with it apparently. If anything your still going to end up in 10.6 eventually.

Yeah... and this is neither.
This is essentially... if not potentially the first Native "EFT" program for Mac. :) ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

Hi all,
I'm proud to announce that I can run pyfa without X11
I've build GTK-OSX (GTK ported on Aqua) and pygtk.
I've Leopard and the native python version is 2.5.1 but the latest version of pyfa can run with python 2.5 (2.6 is better).
Now I may upgraded to SL for having python 2.6 or installed it with the build of python.org.
After I'll try to make pyfa a "real" mac software. Click on it's icon for launching it.

Well, there is Pyobjc. Using that maybe we can replace the gtk interface with an native cocoa one. I know python but have never used the pyobjc framework.

I just can't seem get Python Fitting Assistant / Macports etc running on Snow leopard.
I downloaded the recent Macports for Snow leopard and installed it.
But, when I try and 'sudo port' terminal doesn't recognise the command. I'm a noob when it comes to linux command line stuff.
In the mean time I downloaded the Java 'TightFit' application and that seems to work ok although it hasn't had any updates since December 2008.
Any help in giving me the complete commands in term under Snow Leopard would be appreciated.

Alright, I've got this up and running. Any new developments? Can it be launched without X11 (and terminal window) launching first? |

Hi,
Running pyfa without the need of X11 it's not hard, some compiling stuff is necessary.
Before begining you must know macport and the present method are incompatible.
First of all you need to compile GTK-OSX wich is GTK (used by unix for screen rendering) port over AQUA.
Instructions to do so are here.
Now you need to compile pygtk wich is used by python (language in which pyfa is written) to access gtk.
Instructions are here.
Now pyfa can be launch with terminal but a little more thing is necessary :
cd folder-wich-pyfa-live ./downloadData.py (once) ./launch.py
And normaly pyfa live !
We can made an Automator script like this :
Open Automator New Workflow Choose the action "do shell script" Paste in "do shell script" window the following command : cd ~/folder-wich-pyfa-live ./launch.py Save the workflow and choose Application in file format
And voila !
I tested this on Leopard not on Snow Leopard
