For reference reasons; the ship i'm usng currently is the Moa, but i have the ability to use all Caldari and Minmatar cruisers I see you 'Cause you won't get outa' my way I hear you 'Cause you won't quit screamin' my name I feel you 'Cause you won't stop touchin' my skin |

You are using artillery on a Moa?

Artillery on a Hurricane can work, but it's iffy. You shouldn't using Artillery for PVP on any ship smaller than a Hurricane though and certainly not on any non-Minmatar ship. However, on another note, I now have one of those annoying sigs. |

i use artillery because i like the way it feels, sounds, looks Etc. I take a more cinematic approach to the game... anyway my minmatar ships arent up to speed yet with my caldari and i have a good enough fit for a caldari ship that i don't want to start all over for a minmatar 'til i have at least lvl 3 cruiser

Put the guns down and step the hell away from the Moa. Buy a rupture. Then you've got 2 missile slots or (assuming it's pvp) neuts and 5 drones for dealing with smaller stuff and your guns actually get a bonus.

or a thrasher. artillery thrashers are fantastic for pvp. Put in space whales!

Arti Hurricane will only work if you can dictate range, otherwise you are toasted.
Mainly, you just have to consider the scenario you are gonna play with in order to know if you can deploy artis or not. If you can hold range, be part of a gang, have bookmarks or sniper positions = Is viable. If not, get into AutoCa.
Some minmatar ships can use artis very well, rupture, muni, min BattleShips, even thrasher (tou the fit will be quite tigh to set proper tank or be able to dictate range), so just stick to them if you like Artis.

This. Fortunately, it generally can - except vs small ships but that's where the neuts and the drones work their magic. I have yet to actually lose one, in fact, despite using it in a number of engagements and at least 3-4 lost cause fights.
It works great in a gang, though - not a solo ship by any standard due to greater vulnerability vs small ships and problems if someone actually does close the range (although I did land a few solo kills in it, mostly when I'd miss a kill by going to switch out for the AC fit). Include Pilgrim solo KM for the laughs.

I use a Muninn (Rupture class) as my first ship in any Empire war situation - distance scouting and repelling smaller class ships, which inevitably leads onto other class. It has a small amount of defense for interceptors; that being 2x HAM (Heavy Assault Missile) Launchers and 5x Warriors (light drones).
The ship is agile and strong enough in instances of a few bothersome flies orbiting but any more (or if you get in to situations whereby they cannot be repelled, such as EWAR) you are a dead duck - unfortunately.

OP, if you want to fly an arty setup you WANT to have as many an as good drones as possible.
In fact, unlike when AC fitted, drones are all that separates you from winning or dying to frigates perma-scramming you till reinforcements arrive.
Train it to 5, then train the damage, armor and range skills. Then train to T2 drones, you won't regret it for a second.
