In need of a good Moa NPC killer for lvl3 kill missions. This is what I use atm, any way to improve it? I'm sure there is.
HIGH: 3x 250MM Rails with Iridium 2x Heavy Launchers with Widowmakers
MED: Large SB Shield Amplifier 2x Hardeners
LOW: Tracking Enchaner 2x power Diags Co CPU
I have: Engy lvl5 Electronics lvl5 Weapon Upgrades lvl3
Thx

Hmm weird I have the same setup except I have 4 250mm not three and 3 pdu's and I don't need the co processor. Can you lose the cpu if you train weapon upgrades to level 4. There is also a skill that lowers cpu (or was that grid) on shield modules.
In a while that Kaylona will tell you to strap medium beams on your ship. And while that setup could be very good, perhaps more than yours pvp wise I still think fitting 250mm is a very good idea when dealing with npc's. They are pretty useless when you are far away, the missiles can't reach you and you are past their turret reach. The only real problem with this setup is that it's slow which means the mwd are quick to get inside your optimal which means they are very hard to track and it's a really boring to pick up the loot. __________ Capacitor research |

Oh right I also noticed you have tracking enhancers in your lowslot. I remember I wanted to put 3 pdu's and a damage mod but the damage mod wouldn't fit because of cpu issues so I put in an overdrive and I've never really taken it out. __________ Capacitor research |

I've always used the following and its never failed me
High 4x 200mm Railguns 2x Heavy Launchers
Medium 1x Med Clarity Ward Shield Booster 1x Shield Boost Amp 2x Passive Hardeners
Low 1x Magnetic Field Stab 1x Ballistic Control 1x Tracking Enhancer 1x Co-Proccessor
If you wanna go for Hardeners its jus a matter for playing around with the low slots for cap stuff

IMHO you focus too much on tanking and not enough on mobility and firepower.
Here's a setup that I used for NPC hunting in a 0.1, and it works wonders high: 4 named 250mm rails (2 proto, 2 compressed) 2 standard missile launchers (barely used those)
Med shield booster II 2*Tracking comp II named 10MN MWD
2 Mag stab II RCU PDU
The big force of the Moa is it's ranged firepower, use it to your advantage!

Wouldn't it be better to replace that ballistic control (who boost 2 of your weapons) by a second mag stab (to boost further your other 4 weapons)?

HIGH: 200mm Rail (Thorium) 200mm Rail (Thorium) 200mm Rail (Thorium) 200mm Rail (Thorium) Heavy Launcher (Havoc) Heavy Launcher (Havoc)
MEDIUM: 10NM MWD Small Shield Booster I Supplemental Thermal Barrier Supplemental Kinetic Barrier

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

I was just about to start bashing people and calling them noobs for thinking there was such a thing as a 200mm railgun. Then I saw that 200mm railguns in fact exist, and also T2 versions of them. So I'll be quiet. And also crawl out from under whatever rock I've obviously been hiding under
Quick question on that topic though, are the 200's any good? I see they do less damage but have higher ROF and tracking. I'm guessing what happens is basically you're trading off range for lower cpu and power requirements. Probably a good thing on a cruiser to enable better tanking and/or mobility. Right?

I find that 200mms are actually quite good; they allow for a bit of extra tanking/cap recharge and as you point out, have better tracking. For PvP they are quite good against frigates (kills them even faster when webbed) and cruisers also.
I currently use 250 compressed gauses, a large SB t2 and a shield amp- very very powerfull, but I have trouble with cap recharge.
I would recommend fitting 200s to have a play around if nothing else; named guns are even better.

4x 250's (thorium/anti-matter) 1x Heavy (Thunderbolt/Havoc) 1x Std (Defenders/Light Missiles)
1x 10mn MWD 1x Med Shield Booster 1x cap recharger 1x tracking computer
2x PDU 1x RCU 1x Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Easily handles all L3 missions, can even do Mordu's without warping out no problem. With skills you have anti-matter effective out from 25-35k, then thorium good to out to 60k. Light missiles are good for the merc assasination and mordus missions where you need to kill one fast ship plus of course your drones. Even with Eng 5, can't quite drop the RCU for a low slot tracker or I'd put that in there as well.
With that set up you just dont take enough damage to need to worry about hardners and shield tanking. If you stay at Thorium range most L3 npcs won't be able to hit you anyway and the MWD let's you keep your distance.

My setup is similar to Shadowsword's.
4 x 250mm rails II 2 x Standard launchers(i try not to use missiles at all)
1 x Medium Shield Booster II 3 x Tracking Computer II
1 x RCU 3 x Mag Stab II
If you need to, you can swap a few things around to get an MWD on it. I find most things are dead before they get close.
6.085 damage mod, 3.74 RoF, 26km with antimatter.
In all cases, I would always choose a 4th railgun over missile launchers.

Edited by: Seto Mazzarotto on 02/11/2004 09:16:54 If your wallet's not as thick as some of these guys who can afford to toss tens of millions in T2 equipment into a cruiser, here's my setups to help you along:
Sniping: High Slots: 2x Heavy Launchers w/ Havocs (if you're slamming your target with rails, the shields will be long gone by the time any missile gets near its target) 4x 250mm's with tungsten / iridium (your personal preference)
Med Slots: 2xTracking Computer 10mn AB II Medium Shield Booster
Low Slots: Mag Stab 1's Co-Procs / PDUs as needed. (I don't know your fitting abilities and this is just a suggestion thread anyway.)
Tanking: High Slots: 2x Heavy Launchers w/ missile of choice (this is closer range) 4x 200mm's w/ Iridium, Lead, or Thorium (Anything less range than this and your margin of maximum-minimum accurate range is getting a bit small for comfort)
Med Slots: Large Shield Booster Shield Boost Amplifier 2x hardeners of choice (Or cap injector, depending on preference -- most mission rats have trouble getting past the sheer volume of shield being boosted per second with a good skill level.)
Low Slots: Once again, Mag Stablizer 1's & Co-Procs / PDU's as needed.
