I just got the message that I'll lose my training speed bonus (passing 160000 sp). Is there a way to raise that number and get the bonus back - maybe advanced learning skills?

The training bonus is there to give new players a leg up in the early game. Once your bonus is gone it is gone forever. You are now going to have to rely on implants and learning skills to speed up your training time (like everyone else who is over 1.6m sp or who started playing before the bonus was added), but even with all learning skills at 5 and a set of +5 implants you still are not going to see the same 100% speed increase on your skill training. --------------------------------------------

AFAIK, you'll get that warning if a skill you are about to train will end at over 1.6mil SP and the training time will therefore not be applied.
Try to squeeze in as some skills to lvl 1 or 2 (of skills you need, ofc) to get the most out of the double training time.
Other than that: what Slapchop said.

That's what I figured, but thought I'd check. So I guess that 22 day Energy Mgt (or somesuch) skill I've been eyeballing will become a 44 day skill. "Welcome to Eve" I hear you say!
Now if I slipped that 22 day-er in before the bonus expired, could I still get it at 22? Or as soon as 1.6 was hit would it pop to longer?

The fastest you could get it WITHOUT the "starter bonus" from L4 to L5 would be 9 days and a half. So, yes, learning skills. And attribute-boosting implants. And the proper base attributes.

As soon as the CURRENT skill would put you over 1.6 mil WHEN IT FINISHES, the bonus no longer applies. It is in your best interest to have your last skill trained before you reach 1.6 mil SP to finish as close as possible to, BUT NOT OVER 1.6 mil SP.
In other words, if you have L4 Energy Management with no progress towards L5 and add L5 in it (632,235 additional SP needed) as the first and only skill in the queue: * if you have less than 967,764 SP, you get the half-training-time bonus * if you have over 967,766 SP, you get the slow version

Oh, so the stated time on the skill doesn't take the bonus into account. I have Learning to 5 and the other two beginning learning skills to 4 so probably not much more to do there except implants. Have to look into the advanced learning skills too. Thanks.

There is the base Learning skill, which reduces training time by 2%/level.
There are 5 "basic" Learning skills, which increase the respective attribute by +1/level Instant Recall - Memory Analytical Mind - Intelligence Empathy - Charisma Iron Will - Willpower Spatial Awareness - Perception
There are 5 "advanced" Learning skills, which also increase the respective attribute by +1/level. These require the basic learning skills at L4.
Eidetic Memory - Memory Logic - Intelligence Empathy - Charisma Focus - Willpower Clarity - Perception

Just to add, this is not a levelling game like most MORPG's. So you can do a lot with only a few skills. You may not be the most efficient at something or there's ships you cant fly yet, but that is not a big issue.

You also don't need any skill at 5 unless it's a prerequisite for another skill that you want, or it's the Engineering or Electronics skill itself (those two are important, but you can train them to 5 later).
So, learning skills at 4 across the board (including the Advanced ones), and some +2 implants (cheap-ish) are sufficient to halve your training time.
Then it's a matter of re-arranging your attributes to maximize your training even further. If you know that you'll be training support skills for a while, you can go for Int Mem maximized, then switch to Per Wil once you're done with support skills and want to focus on training ship skills. If you don't know what you're going to be training (or are picking skills up as you go), maximize Per and Int and leave it at that. You'll have a few skills that are slow to train, but the majority of ship and support skills that you'll need to train within the next year will benefit from either Per or Int being high.
The training speed bonus is for newbies only; the first 1.6 million SPs.

Yes it does. I was merely pointing out that if you have the "wrong" attribute combo, no learning skills and no implants, training a skill WITH the half-time-to-train bonus can still take longer than the very same skill WITHOUT the "under 1.6 mil SP" bonus but with the "right" attribute combo, max learning skills and +5 implants.

A small sidenote. If training a level puts you over 1.6 mil SP, that level only trains at normal speed. You have to fit in small skills as you approach the barrier to get the full benefit of the bonus.

I don't think that's a sidenote, that's basically what this entire thread is about...

I was wondering about the OP's question also. let me see if I understand. currently mining is at level 4 42,255/256,000. so this will take 213,745 points to finish level 5 SO.. If I have LESS than 213,745 points to the 1.6 million cap, this could no longer train @ the 100% bonus correct? so at my current 1,321,663( and counting) current training of Focus 3(training) and Spatial Awareness(to level 4) cued behind it, I will be sol on any of the biggies I need in current plan? so I should start stuffing in as many small skills as possible correct? Not trying to highjack thread, just trying to make sure I have a handle on the concept the OP asked about.

Correct. The rest is up to you and your maths skills.

On one of my alts I almost made the mistake of training Spaceship Command 5 (2 days with bonus, 4 days without) before Industrial 5 (12 days with bonus, 24 days without)
Thankfully I hadn't come close enough to the threshold to lose the bonus before getting Industrial 5 in heh. So be weary of the order EVEmon sometimes tells you to train skills lol.

I spent about 300k sp on just training learning skills up to 4 and I tell you from what Evemon tells me its going to cut my training time in half.
