Hi. I was jetcanning when someone stole my ore. Apparently it became his because when I tried to take my ore he was able to kill me. So how do I steal stuff back without being killed and why was he able to steal my stuff and them I'm not allowed to take it back?
I'm also looking for a guild. I've been killed twice in two days because I can't warp (warp stablizers do nothing) and I'm about ready to quit. This is rediculous, I thought in 0.8 space random people couldn't kill you. I can't even defend myself because I can't escape and I can't arm a damn badger, eccms do nothing, and warp stablizers do nothing. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do here but I'm tired of being killed and blowing money out my ass.

Another question, how do I setup 'safe zones'. Since this game heavily favors pirates, I Guess I need to pirate.

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 01/09/2009 23:21:16 ANYONE can take from a jetcan. What happened was he took the ore, then jettisoned it into his own can. When you took it from his can, you essentially "Stole" from him, allowing him to shoot you. Looking for a corp (I highly advise not using the term ''guild'') is highly advisable because someone who steals from a jetcan is flagged to your entire player corp...thus, you can have a friend warp in and take him out.
If you don't have corpmates nearby...just don't jetcan mine. You can also mine into an anchored giant secure container, but these can't carry much (3900 m3).
The reason warp core stabs didn't help you is because each one gives you 1 pt of scram protection. He was probably using a close-ranged warp scrambler, which has 2 points of warp disruption.
For a corp, make a post in the Corporations and Alliances Recruitment Center forum.
What do you mean "safe zones"? You mean safe spots I'm assuming. Just go into people and places, and "Add bookmark" while you're in the middle of warp. However, safespots aren't relegated to pirates.
As far as piracy...The game actually doesn't favor piracy. The game favors doing what you want to do, while keeping in mind that other players are out to get you (and thus you need to play smart). If you're talking about pure ISK-making, then piracy is actually generally not that profitable.

TY. I'm getting less interested in money and more in not dying and just outright killing. I'm tired of being on the other end. So all I need is a stasis webifier and some guns, right? That seems to be all they use against me or is there something else I need to kill random people?

Warp disruptor (or scrambler) and guns/launchers. From there, it depends on the ship. I can't be assed to explain every detail of ship fitting, so I'll just copy/paste a couple of my ship fits.
Stasis webs are to slow the target down, it wont stop them from warping off.

Naturally you don't need to fly a cruiser or even have t2 fittings; that's just an example. I'd get Eve fitting tool and import your API data to figure out what you want to fly and how.
If you're just looking for random pew, you can head off into lowsec belts and such. It's normally better to have friends, though (hence getting a corp).
If you were looking to gank canflippers...then get a mining cruiser (Osprey, scythe, etc). Fit a single mining laser to look like you're mining, and then fit it out for PVP against frigates. Pretty much all canflippers are frigates, so something with small guns (If it has missile slots, assault launchers), stasis webs and warp scramblers (So you can track him easy and stop him from escaping), as well as a tank (Armor/shields depending on the ship).
I'd just like to point out that while I advised you to use small guns (Unless you can fit missiles), that's a very rare exception. In almost no circumstance do you want to fit small guns to a cruiser (Or medium guns to a battleship, etc)

you cant kill random people in high sec. you need to do what the guy did to you first or you will get concorded. you also need a warp scrambler to stop your target from warping. you should get into a player corp asap they will help you with evey thing you need

Edited by: MyFingID on 01/09/2009 23:52:12 ty. What about dualboxing, is that favored/allowed in this game? That osprey idea sounds like some fun btw, I may try that. I have a hard time bringing myself to kill people who don't deserve it, though it's appearing more and more that I should pop everyone I see.
Another question, I'm guessing I had rights to kill him after he stole my can? Does he have rights to kill me until a set time after I stole from his and how long is that?

Soon as he steals from you he flashes red and you can open fire for 15 minutes. If you do anything to aggress him (fire / steal) then you in turn will flash to hi for 15 minutes

A lot of people dual box. Hell, there are people with 5+ accounts running at one time.

If you don't want to get killed at all the only way is to stay in dock and become a full time trader, but if you just want to lessen the number of kills, your best help will be to read up on stuff.
For mining, I recommend Halada's guide - which is stickied in the Industry forum above - that will explain aggression mechanics for jetcan mining.
For avoiding getting ganked by those willing to get concordokken after they take you out, check out threads in both Industry and Crime and Punishment.
Learn aggression rules and learn how pirates think.
You got killed because you invited them to kill you.
This was simply through ignorance. This is not an insult - just the facts - they were targetting you because you are new and they were relying on your being ignorant.
Once you know how things work and what they are looking for, you can turn this against them.
The Osprey trick mentioned above is a prime example.
You just need to be aware that after you shot up their frigate with your Osprey you will need to get out of the area as they will now have aggression rights on you and will probably come back in a battleship or battle cruiser and crush your Osprey.
Again, this comes back to knowing the aggression rules and the way they think.
Smply put - knowledge is your friend and ignorance your biggest enemy in this game.

And it admittedly takes a good bit of time and effort (and patience) to get from one to the other in Eve! I hope you stick around :)

The other thing dual boxing is good for is having your second character running around in a hauler keeping the jet cans nearly empty. If they flip the can, you don't lose enough to sweat over. This is also explained in the Mining guide described above.
And remember, you need a second account for this, you can't just use a second character on the same account.

One more thing: when you took "your" ore "back", you should have received a notification that you were about to get flagged as a thief. If you didn't, you may have turned off the notification. In the setup ('ESC') menu, there's an option to turn it back on. If you did, and ignored it, there's a lesson for you.

Dual-Boxing is allowed, however you will need to buy another account.
One problem you may face is the people that do deserve killing are going to be ready for you and for quite a while, be hard for you to kill.
The can thing... you jetisoned your ore into space he stole it. At this point you are able to fire on him. However, this is what he wants most of the time (you one can of ore really isnt worth much to a can flipper).

1. There are no guilds, just corporations. 2. -A- (Against ALL Authorities) are hostile to Goons. 3. GoonFleet accepts only members of somethingawful.com forum. You'll have to pay 10$ (IIRC) to become member of said forum. 4. They do not collect 'application money'. If any Goon asks money from you, it's trap. ... I mean scam. 5. You, sir, are a terrible troll.

kill rights no. aggression yes.
kill rights happen when someone kills you and does not have aggression on you in empire space. aka they suicide ganked you, or they killed you in lowsec AND you did not fire back, as that will give them 15 min aggression on you.
aggression is when someone steals from you, shoots at you, or assists someone you have aggression on.
