Maybe somebody has an idea why I got Concorded for turning on an ECM when trying to test it with a Corp mate. Correct me if I'm wrong but an ECM is purely defensive and therefore can hardly be called Agressing someone. No warning of possible Concord action aside from saying that it COULD cause a loss in security rating. All of a sudden BOOM!! A stranger that Suicide Ganked me and stole all my worldly belongings only lost .2 from his security rating. They knocked me down a full point for turning on a test of a defensive module. Needless to say I am not happy. BTW. Not a single shot of anything was fired. Filed a petition and GM's carefully avoided it. I guess cause they know the game was DEAD WRONG. |

Edited by: Liteshow on 02/09/2009 18:25:06 ECM has been and always will be an offensive module. Sure, you are keeping them from locking you (i.e. defensive), but you are also keeping them from locking ANYTHING (i.e. offensive). Turn your "Dangerous Act" warning on. If it pops up and you continue anyway, enjoy the concordoken.
The only real question has to do with "I got Concorded for turning on an ECM when trying to test it with a Corp mate. " followed by "A stranger that Suicide Ganked me and stole all my worldly belongings..." Was this 2 separate incidents or did you jam the ganker after your kill rights expired? AFAIK using ECM on a corp member should not send Concord, unless it was a burst and you hit someone/thing else in the AOE.
Edit: P.S. - don't ECM a gate's guns "just for fun" either. No matter how high your jamming strength, they can still get you

You must know that ECM angers Concord as ECM was the name of the person who took Concords chief wife away to the peanut people.

Hmm. I think you should be able to do anything to a corp mate without attacting Concord's attention.
Jamming a non-corpmate is defintely a concordable offence.
Check your logs ... if you didn't inadvertantly smartbomb a passerby, then petition this loss.

The Ganking was separate incident. And in fact I looked and they took 1.154 off my security rating. Yes ECM is usually a preface to aggression but in itself it is not aggression. In standings said I engaged in Combat(Aggresion). And it was with a Corp Mate but he had me locked and we wanted to see if ECM could break the lock. As he had me locked I would certainly say ECM was a reasonable action and it sure as the blazes is NOT AGGRESION!! Nothing happened to my buddy which I'm glad for but to me he deserved it more then I did. |

Except you're missing the fact that ALL electronic warfare is aggressive by nature. ECM is a form of electronic warfare. Therefore ECM is an aggressive act. ---

As I said before, you are stopping your target from locking anything by jamming him, and that's why it's considered an offensive act. If you were breaking his lock on you only, then maybe it would be defensive. But the target of your jamming cannot lock on anything until you miss a cycle. He can't defend against another attacker, remote rep a friend, or even ECM someone else. It effectively takes that ships guns/equipment out of the battle for the duration of the cycle. It's the same with NOS, energy neutralizers, and sensor damps.

Edited by: Overseer Aliena on 02/09/2009 19:11:40 You're post makes no sense. You can perform any and all aggressive acts on corpmates as my own and I test skills and set ups on each other regularly with no concorde actions. We even hold Bantam Arena battles.
Now I've been ECM'd plenty of times by Corpmates so I see several possible outcomes here.
1) Its either an alliance mate, npc corpmate, or ganged/unganged friend in which case friendly fire is nullified.
2) You used a pulse ECM which affects everything around you. If you were in front of the station the that was a stupid move. If you were in front of a gate then that was a stupid move. If you were at a planet then you probably hit a cloaked person.
3) whether its description says defensive or not it does not matter, you still made an act of aggression on someone else and depending on options one or 2 somewhere you were flag as being aggressive.

When i hack into your Computer und prevent you to go online, is this an aggresive act ? I dont think so i didn't hit you or ? :-))
ECM Burst is like a Smartbomb, when Concord killed you after it, there was something non corpmate close to you, like a station,Sentry gun or another player.
Take it as expierence.

I have an idea: you're in an NPC corp. NPC Corpmates are not allowed to duff each other up unless there's a reason ("Oi! You stole an bullit frum ma caan!"). Only people in player-run corps are allowed to biff each other about in HiSec without some sort of flagging having happened.
By "allowed" I mean "without CONCORD coming and scattering fragments of hull plating".

I suspect it's pat of new patch. Try hitting a Corpmate now and you will get a rude surprise. I'm just disappointed that the GM's couldn't bother to explain why I got Concorded. It was regular MultiSpectral ECM and not burst. And nobody has addressed why in this case I lost over a full point off my security status but a complete stranger that blew me up and stole everything I owned should lose only 0.2 off his security. And my Corpmate and I are not in NPC Corp. The warning of Security Status loss said Concord takes a dim view of CorpMates doing this sort of thing. No warning that I might be blown up. Just status loss.

lol. I just looked you up. You're in SWA. I'm (for whatever reason) going to give you the benifit of the doubt here that you're new and not a troll.
SWA = NPC Corp. You can only do that kind of shananagins in a player created corp. Otherwise... Well... CONCORD PD don't have jails. --- Usagi Tsukino // Miyazaki Zaibatsu
