My little Mac knowledge tells me that we are safe from viruses, keyloggers and other nasties that are causing chaos on the forums. Is this true, or are we at risk as well.

aye, we are pretty safe from keyloggers and viruses. Most of them are .exe, .dll, or any other windows file. But don't be stupid and click every single thing you see k? :P

there have been a few Trojans lately on the mac, so if you go somewhere on the net and download a installer make sure you know where it came from.

Yes they are pretty much safe but they are not impervious.
The majority of the Trjoans out there are the laughing stock of the programming community in the Mac world as they require a total idiot of a user to get hit.
Exercise common sense and don't go to websites you don't know or don't trust and you'll be fine. Don't download pirated software... Oh and don't install Microsoft's Office for Mac either. As thats the main reason there are "5 threats on the grid" (Rough estimate : O P Thank you Micro####)
10.6 comes with a hidden pre-packaged anti-virus/anti-malware thats built into the core of the system... Apple seems to be gearing up for trouble ahead.... so if anything it's getting a hell of a lot harder to get in. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

this particular virus package is within flashplayer.exe (iirc), so yes, as a Mac user, as long as you're not using bootcamp, you should be relatively safe from the keylogging spam links.

At this time, the only keylogger I am aware of is a proof of concept firmware hack on the Apple Aluminum Keyboards. I date this as 09.09.2009 since this can change any day. Most Mac-based trojans are not keyloggers, they are DNS redirectors, from what I've been able to gather.

having a mac didn't protect from dummies users habit : "click click click and never read"
