I read somewhere that it was possible to play eve off a flash drive. IT was an old thread but they indicated it could be played on a 2GB flash drive?
Looks like my copy of eve is over 4GB. is there some temp files etc, I can ditch to make it fit on a 2GB Flash drive?
Any help is appreciated.

The eve client is now approx 4.1Gb in size. The enhanced graphics etc making it considerably more bulky
Afaik you would need a flash drive bigger than that now to run it.
I hope Im wrong for your sake .
Good luck

Full and only client install is 4.1GB not including temp and cache files in user/USERNAME folder.
You need a flash drive that has enough space to hold 4.1GB and the target computers must have directX 9.0c installed, many Vista computers and Win7 do not come with 9.0 installed.
There is a target command to keep cache folder in the flash drive end LUA//OFF or something to prevent any temporary data being kept on the target computers. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

I wouldn't... you'd run into 3 major issues.
1: USB Key Size (Should be at least 8 to 16GB for obvious reasons)
2: Would have to be "Installed" in some form or fashion which means its still running off the main drive
3: If you got it to run on the USB Key... USB would become a bottleneck affecting performance drastically.
Contrary to popular opinion... USB 2.0 sucks in comparison to Firewire or even SATA/PATA(IDE) at current tech levels. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

1. 8-16GB are nice and cheap nowadays and 32GB are dropping fast
2. Don't need to install EVE, just copy and paste the CCP/EVE folder and it works fine, it will create a new temp folder on each computer but there is a target command to keep it in the main folder CCP/EVE/ on the flash drive.
3. USB average sustained speeds are 25-40MB/s, Firewire is 100/200/400 Mbit/s modes with it running at the same average as USB 2.0. IDE is 16MB/s peak and it being much lower than USB 2.0 all the time. EVE does not requrie you to transfer all the data in it's directory into memory at once and once in memory it will stay there and the USB device bus assuming it is the only device transferring data and no other devices are splitting the bandwidth will provide AMPLE room for the Client to run. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Correct, they come with a latter version in both cases - but Direct X is backwards compatible, so the point is irrelevant anyway.

Move 10 GB's of Data from a flash drive to your computer
Do the same thing from a Firewire Drive at 800 Mb/s to your computer.
You will see what I mean.
USB is a joke at that point.
I see it EVERY day... I'm not saying it wont work.. I'm saying its inefficient at best. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

On my machine i get the same speeds on a single USB socket as Firewire it's jsut people don't see that if you had 2 firewire sockets and they were used as much as USB you would run into the same issues. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Edited by: ISHKUR MASTER on 04/09/2009 11:36:08 Confirming I run EVE on a 8g flash drive on my laptop, roaming login wifi and it runs excellent,
cache and settings all stored on the flash as well
Eve on the go
Dont have to move anything anywhere, plug and play
The slow bit is the install, writing to the flash drive takes ages, but other than that step, its all good
