I actually agree on the steep penalties that is now in effect is too steep, a little while before xmas this was less steep. I liked that, then it was actually a gradual decent into outlawhood.
Now we might as well have an incremental step down (like outlaw/not outwal) rahter then a gradual slide since you drop way way down by just cracking one egg.
And the -10 sec guys will still be -10 sec guys, and it has nothing to do by "learn2pirate" as the true pirates will not care anyways (and the new ones will only take a few more days to reach -10).
Imo, I see no point in a gradual sec stsat system as long as its not reall gradual as of now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Originally by: Discrodia Okay CCP, I admit it. After around 18 months of playing I finally have a problem with your game. And the problem I have involves security status.
After charitably offering my corpmates assistance on their gatecamp with my Deimos, I proceeded to assist in 4 kills, 2 involving pods. Only to my dismay a few minutes later did I learn I had been banned from nearly ALL of hisec in exchange for a few hours of fun and copious swearing. I think, above all else, this doesn't fit with your risk-reward mechanic. And here's why: #1: Loot is absoloute pants except on the best of days #2: You hafta risk other pirates, aggressive victims, and your gangmates (if you miss a point) #3: You are penalized for disproportionatly long periods of time, in my case the general estimate is a month of constant missioning (L3's) before I can grace the corridors of Jita safely once more.
I ask of you CCP, is this fair? In my opinion, security status losses should either be reduced, or have the bonuses to sec status from killing pirates apply every time a pirate is killed, not just from the biggest one you killed in 15 minutes.
Discuss / Fire away.
Well, Piracy is easy. Scary easy... it's absolutely fall-on-your-face easy to do. Just don't do it within Sentry Range. Yeah, that's right, get off the gate, get away from the station, and go sit in a belt... Amamake 3-1 can normally provide all of your piracy desires in a nice, neat little cluster of rocks without sentry guns.
I agree that regaining Sec status is an absolute grind... especially considering you can go -10 in as little as 2 hours on a gate camp in a popular transit system, but you can never go above +5 (I was once actually +10 after a long stint in 0.0, but that was before they nerfed the heck out of it for no reason ever given).
With a smallish gang of a couple inties or fast HACs and some stealth bombers you can actually get +1 sec back per hour in 0.0, even in hostile space. Heck, any random stretch of 0.0 will serve your needs. Just go out and pop BS to your heart's content and if you run into someone dumb enough to linger in a belt... don't be a lazy pirate! --- War does not determine who is right...
... it determines who is left. |

Half the so called low sec pirates are just people wanting to try to protect "their" space ...
What ever became of the viceroy idea?

Only way piracy will be balanced is if somehow... someone finds a way so that:
The ammount of SIGNIFICANT targets around for pirates increase.. (so they don't waste their sec status on a t1 frigate just because they are bored for 4 days in a row.
And
Somehow at same time the non pirates feel that they can stay a long time in low sec before falling to a pirate ( statistically speaking).
So the only way to boost piracy is somehow magically skew more the proportion of good and evil (poetic license naming here) on low sec.
AND...
Combat on low sec should equalize things more so that pirates do not feel pressured into using LARGE groups for hunting. That is better for the pirates that have more fun and better for they preys that have an increased chance of survival..be by fighting back.. be by ransoming (or you believe a 25 ship gang can be controlled to stop firing on hull before the ransomed ships goes kabumm? )
So the first thing pirates need to do is stop writing things as go away carebear! They need to embrace the bears and say things like go away other pirate that disputes same pray as me!
Second thing is... carebears should start paying attention into proposals that makes life of SOLO pirates easier... and support them. Since that would chance the piracy profile into a direction BOTH would enjoy more!
A few things improved on last few years.. a few got worse. WTZ was a 2 edged sword.. made more people into low sec... but made them much harder to catch and made most combats into fast locking gate camp disputes.
THe introduction of FW helped stabilize low sec a bit, since the large gate camps became less common and less permanent now that they could be overhelmed by a militia large gang.
Even so there are still a lot of disturbances, like 20 man pirate gate camps and the irrational NO MAN'S land that are some specific low sec systems.

Well, if I and my three buddies camped a highway on ramp...blew up your car, killed you after you were thrown from the wreckage, and then stole what remained in the trunk of your car, and then melted the rest down and took that too...I would think I'd spend a wee bit of time behind bars.
It may be easy to kill carebears, sure, but just because a crime is easy to commit, doesn't mean the sentence should be more lenient, right?
I know what you are saying, and that this is a game for fun, but think about what you are doing. Murder and theft...multiple times. We lock those folks away and throw away the key. Pychopathic mass murderers we call them.
