From what Ive read about StarTrek it is going to be similar to EVE but also have world exploration. Is StarTrek going to cripple EVE?

From what I've read about ST:O, it will be the exact opposite of EVE, so no. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I've read that sea urchins are similar to apples, but can also live under water. Are bananas going to cripple kangaroos?

I have heard it's the usual WoW in space. So no, it has nothing to threaten EVE in my opinion.
Besides. I have seen some of the past Trek games. They are in general pretty awful trying to get away by just being 'brand' product without putting in the needed effort to be good games.

I wouldnt worry about star trek, last screen shots from the game i saw made the game look about 4 years old. and as another poster said just about every star trek game there has been has been fairly bland with maybe the exception being elite force which i thought was a fairly decent shooter.

Definitely some competition (face it there are still millions of Star Trek fans out there) as to nemesis worthy I doubt it. Jumpgate Evolution is another contender in the Space mmo market and in time there will be a few more on the way. Not saying these will be better than EVE, EVE will continue to fill it's niche as always and the loyal players will still be here. New competition does threaten CCPs ability to snag new players though as they will have some more choices in this genre.

They'll all come to EVE once they're tired of the kiddie pool.

I had a good look at start trek online but from what i could tell they are not going to make borg a playable race :-/ so no business from me.
I mean, why would i want to go through 2000 boring starfleet missions just to get a ship when i'd much rather just assimilate someone else's? Haleuth |

If it's going to be similar to Eve, no it won't cripple Eve.
If it's going to be better than Eve, yes, it will shove Eve into the dirt. Dust will be fine, because even CCP aren't stupid enough to put all their eggs into one basket. Anybody who is not waiting for something better than Eve really is sad, but I really hope that whatever comes along to beat it is nothing to do with Star Trek. That would be really horrible. It's bad enough when people on Eve replicate the only Star Trek name they can think of that hasn't been taken yet, and then expect us all to bow down to them, actually in a Star Trek environment that would be.... just awful.

So what is the opposite of Eve? Presumably a thing that's not a game, not about spaceships, not about violence...and not about a lot of other stuff.
Sounds like a winner. Signature locked for discussing moderation. Navigator

Sounds like a winner.
It will hae a static war between factions and focus more around PVE kind og opposite.
I am a fan of ST, but I am sceptical of this game, seem to be toooo carebearish, no real competition between players or any real sense of loss/accomplishents.
However i know very little about it as of yet, I might give it a spin, but I will hardly give up on EVE for it.
In my expereinces MMOs based on something else that already exists tend to be too limitd and boring. I.e. WOW. In contrast EVE is an entierly different univers then anyhting that exists out there and its created for this game spesifically. It makes for more interesting story and gamepley. EVE also got real focus on PVP interactions making a much harsher cynical approach togame play then the happy go lucky no-loss no-risk carebear WOW. :P --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I first read about ST:O I was really exited but now, the more stuff I see about it the less I think of it as it looks old, has sucky game mechanics and doesn't at all involve what star trek is about.. imo anyway.

Made me chuckle.
Anyway, ST:O doesn't look like it will be out for a long long time so I wouldn't worry. I will confirm however, I will be trying it when it DOES come out.

The only advantage that ST:O has over Eve is that you can get out your ship and go down onto planets or fight hand-to-hand combat ON your ship. But that will get old very quickly.
Graphics looks half-baked. The universe isn't anything like star trek to the point that it just looks like a completely different game with star trek ships in it. All this is is WoWTrek.
Faction Vs Faction PVP only = Lose PvE mechanics not yet decided upon = Lose.
