Pirate is such a harsh word I like to see myself as a economic specialist which creates insurance collectors and maintains a steady rise of income for the ship builders and industrialist alike. Rules of piracy
#1 - Win! #2 - Win! #3 - Honor all Ransoms! #4 - If fight ship seems to tasty of target prob. hot drop. #5 - Please refer to rule #1 and #2

Actually, srava is a word.
Learn to sanskrit.
In addition, I never actually stated that the practice was bad. I merely pointed out the hypocrisy in your statements.
Any perceived slights on that particular subject, were purely in your head.
By the way, you improperly conjugated the verb स्रवति, meaning to leak. As in अय्यो! रक्तं स्रवति, or "****, I'm leaking blood!" Just thought I'd share that.

just "fought" a BYDI guy in a caine in my harby. Was expecting his mate in the station to join in and as I got the caine into structure he did ... in an archon.
WTF can you do with that but overload and hope you can pop before he locks?

if you want a fair fight have a friend drop a bubble or tackle for you then engage with whatever you think is fair...
or just have a friend tack and engage whenever you think you can win + profit

Why pirates usually call for friends or run? Because successful pirates never play fair. Changing the tide of battle to your favor is the logical thing to do. I hate to say, but the "noble," fighting 1v1 is risky. If you think logically, would you rather lose you expensive ship or call in friends? Obviously you call in friends, you tackle the moron for being stupid enough to consent to the 1v1, tank his damage and wait for you friends to show up and blow the hell out of him. Then you take his loot and pod his ass.

(a) Don't fly expensive. Most people who make real money off piracy do not. (b) 1v1 = you get 100% of the loot (eg, 6-7M per T2 fit ship). 1v10 = you get 10% of the loot (eg, lol 600K ISK per T2 fit ship)
Hmmmm... somehow 1v1 sounds more appealing. .

pirats do it this way...
bait you for a 1v1... when the pirate gets into structure a pirate gang lands on you with 2 RR dominixes, black birds and falcons and hacs... they take you down in 7 vs 1
Pirates wait for a combat ship to jump into low sec, Heavy interdictor grabs the victim, 4 other RR BSes finish it.
Basically pirates are skill less PvPers, who's wins are 90% all vs one. However when an enemy pirate gang turns up for a fight, the pirate group will be hesitant to any all vs all and group PvP.
Pirates prefer to play docking games, and often camp station until a care bear wants to undock ... totally wrong, in other games legal stations do not ever allow fighting and never ever tolerate pirates on board. But they have pirate stations where carebears never dock or come near. Killing a victim and sitting out in station is total bull**** design.

Pirates these days are just terrible. I got scrammed on a gate by a HAC and a Scorp (I think) while I was running to a mission in my Harby. I've not had much PvP experience with Amarr, but either way I tried to escape and couldn't so I turned my guns on the HAC and started pounding away at her, drones out and going after the Scorp.
Somehow I brought the HAC down to structure and it warped out, so seeing my advantage I high-tailed it for the scorp and opened up on her as well. Lo-and-behold as soon as I did no less than 5 battleships and the HAC from earlier warp in and insta-pop me. Why not just accept that they'd been beaten on the gate and let me through to do my mission? Was there really any need to blob just for the sake of a gatecamp?
They weren't too pleased when I didn't congratulate them in local. Oh well

There are differences in pirates. I got killed thrice (this week, in two days).
First, I was not looking at local (lowsec ratting), I got killed by a single boat I could have had a chance against (slim though). My fault, not my system and it was full. Had a bit of a talk afterward (friendly), was a bit miffed that I lost so much, but I should have saved my stuff more.
Second time there was noone in local, then one person (neutral standing) then all of a sudden 3 hostiles warping toward me. That I had no chance against (vexor vs Taranis, retribution and Hurricane) nor any real chance at avoiding.
Third was vs my brutix, I had a chance, I just forgot to retarget the guy (my guns were still targeting the rat, silly me), The guy left the loot and gave me 30 mill to buy a new ship, probably after finding out my age (I actually made money, the brute was insured and sure as hell did not have 30 mill equipment on it).

Pretty obvious answer OP.
Pirates are after ganks, not pvp; since ganks guarantee risk free kills, whereas pvp risks their ships destruction.
And after all, they are normally in it for the money.

two things I must point out here
1 - there are no low sec pirates. low sec- 0-0 space is lawless space where anything goes. the reson for wanting to go there is big pay offs and PVP at anytime. ua gota respect a true low sec 0-0 space player.
2 - high sec pirates are the true carebears of EVE, they hid within NPC corps and attack weaker targets. with no fear of concord or other players. because they are in a NPC corp, no war dec's
now you will see the real joke of all this, you will see all the trolls post telling me and you to go back to WOW that this is for real brass balled players like them. and of course them being fourm trolls and NPC pirates. gota say tho....i lived 40 years and had to have a fourm troll tell me tears tasted salty..... here to kick every troll I see |

Edited by: Joe Stalin on 21/09/2009 22:09:07 I don't understand why anyone would think/expect a pirate to go for a fair fight. That isn't what pirating is about in the least. It isn't about the fight but about getting your loot to make isk.
If pirates only engaged in fair fights then they would have a significant chance of losing their ship, so over time their career as a pirate would be prohibitively unprofitable (you have to destroy multiple enemy ships for their loot to replace a loss of yours, so only engaging in fights with a 50% success rate would be a money loser over time). Only engaging in unfair fights where the chance of success is high is the only way to actually make money as a pirate. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Even ships / character ages doesn't mean the fight is essentially speaking fair, as in provides both pilots a equal chance to win.
That said, I like a close fight where I win best. Gives me the thrills.
