I do a bit of traveling for work, and as an avid talk radio listener, I have had the chance to listen to a LOT of professional commentators. I would like to say that the amateur commentators for Eve's Alliance Tournament are no worse than any of the professional commentators that you can hear on the radio or television.
Being a good commentator is a hard thing to do; add on top of that the technical difficulties they have had, and the complex nature of these small fights, and these guys really have their work cut out for them.
If you think you can do a better job, record yourself talking for a few matches, then listen to what you said. I promise that you'll have a few dumb moments yourself.

I agree. Good info, good details from all four commentators today. Enjoying this.

Edited by: Ethan Blue on 06/09/2009 19:45:05 I think commentators are doing the best job with what they have to work with. Props to all of you and please keep up the good work.
I would like to beseech CCP, on behalf of all of eve. Broadcast the next tournament live. Even if you have to do so without commentary ( I know your guests probably don't want to be away from their families and their alliances for 2 1/2 weeks). Just broadcast live feed from one camera man with everyone locked. Or the CCP Dev's could commentate for it, it's not like you guys don't know your product, and the commentary you guys could provide between matches could be very informative and colorful given the alternate perspective.
Regardless (and this is not an emo rage threat), I am done with the radio thing... I will do next year what I have decided to do for the remainder of this tourney. Log off until videos are available. Wait until the weekend is over and catch up. Next year if the whole thing isn't broadcast, I will ignore the tourney and all who are following it till 2 days before the finals... and just watch everything at once. Again, your guest are doing everything they can and I commend them for the job they are doing, but the current system sucks (respectfully, of course).

LegiuneaRomana.mp3
(if it downloads with a .gz extension just change it to .mp3)

I don't get the comments on unfocused fire / multiple ships taking damage being due to jamming...
Damps or Tracks maybe but not jams.

Usually when we are talking about that it is due to things that are capable of causing damage without a lock, namely drones. Also, with as many Caldari setups as we are seeing, FoFs could be in play as well, causing split damage due to ECM.
It is true that Damps and TDs can cause a bit of that as well, but I think it's fair to say that the lion's share of ewar in this tourney has come from Rooks and Kitsunes.

Ah cheers for clarification, didn't think of that...
Just went with the basic "If they're jammed they aren't going to be damaging anyone" logic.
Two commentator replies, honoured lol.

For about the 45 seconds they're alive... I don't understand why people bring Kits' to the tourney to begin with. They are promptly destroyed. They should bring something that statistically will survive.

Simmer down, there. I caught the slight mispronounciation of your alliance name, but, to be fair, systemic chaos actually makes more sense than the oxymoronic systematic chaos.

TeaDaze for president. Keep him on the air.
Indeed there are differences between commenting audio or video and the experts have little training on that. But between people asking for more in depth approach and other asking for comments that even a non EVE player could understand they are doing a good job.

The reason Kil2 and TeaDaze are better commentators than Crovan? They don't make as many obvious blunders (Crovan has so far referred to a Drake as a Brutix, REPEATEDLY called an Enyo an Ishkur when neither team has fielded any Ishkurs and referred to FOF missiles as "fire and forget" among other blunders) and when they DO mess up they realise, apologise and correct themselves. I have NEVER heard Crovan correct one of his mistakes, although he did once correct TeaDaze which is just all kinds of arrogance.
Also, props for TeaDaze for being the ONLY commentator I've ever heard pronounce "Kitsune" correctly. Jesus guys, it's not that hard!

What he has said is spot on, your commentary has been ridiculous, it would be ok if you made up for it with some kind of humour or personallity but even that is seriously lacking. CCP now have to make up they're mind wether to F.O.F(Fire Or Forget) you.

Possibly because not all of the indicated examples were actually me, in particular the one that you made your adorable little joke out of? In fact I think they may be spread out among 3 of us at least. I mean, I'll happily take the heat for some of the frankly minor missteps that we all made on the first weekend, but I think you guys are getting a little crazy with your srs bizniss.
Looking forward to seeing all of your on next year's show, tbh.

The difficulty there is that it wouldn't match up with the written alliance name. Sure, it's pretty easy to work out, but we've really tried not to do anything that doesn't mesh with the exact written names of things, even to the point of trying not to say pretty commonly known one's like HAC in future rounds. Still, we'll work on it.
Also, I hadn't clicked the link earlier because it sent me to an external download site and I tend to not get along with those, sorry. Just trying to help you guys out.

How expensive can it be to record their own game, do some editing and upload it on youtube or stream it themselves?
They hype this tournament with frontpages news and ****, yet they can't even give us proper coverage..
you have to pay overtime for weekend staff to run the tourny, people to edit etc it can end up being a bit of cash. Reason why they stopped evetv was due to staff costs and mainly bandwidth costs would be nice to have it but not if it means game would cosst more. ---InViCtA---
