hi guys its me cat here
i was wondering earlier about various things and i wanted to know about what you thought on various situations
1) i have bought isks and use them to fund my game 2) i have many isks and i sell them for real dollars 3) i sell in game items for real monies 4) i hack accounts and steal stuff and refer to 3. 5) i just steal accounts
i just want to try and assess a morality here lol are any of my above 5 worse than the others?
Why is any worse than the other? Is any of this acceptable? Why might 1 be more acceptable than 4?
I struggle to get my head round the whole RMT issue, and I'd like to try to understand. what compels someone (I'm interested in who this is, ie, what type of person this is too) to buy ISK for $ when it has been patently clear for some time that this is unacceptable.
Also, just a note that my account(s) have already been audited pretty damn hard by CCP when I applied for CSM lol.
Yay! Six months of defending! \o/ <3 to Abrazzar! |

Spankings should be the punishment for all crimes. Or violations of the rules. Or bending of the rules that arn't technically violations or crimes. Or just general boredom.

IMHO, morally these three are about the same. All three should result in a banning of all accounts associated with either that billing address, OR that method of payment. I don't think really anything else could be done with the current laws that exist in the world.
Quote: 4) i hack accounts and steal stuff and refer to 3. 5) i just steal accounts
Both of these are a little different - both have far further consequences than getting rich in-game. IMHO, both of these activities should result in real-world prosecution for identity theft and other real-world crimes that are usually involved with account hcking (scams, false pretenses, etc). That's the key difference - the first three primarily affect individuals within the game environment - the latter two go beyond the game environment to possibly have a quite real effect on the lives of those affected.
Quote: i just want to try and assess a morality here lol are any of my above 5 worse than the others?

See above - 1 only affects the player in-game (it's the player's choice where he spends his monies), where 4 is identity theft, that could result in the INVOLUNTARY removal of monies from the individual involved.

Cat, the answer is - human greed. Players want to be uber, and quite a few are NOT willing to put in the effort required to truly become uber. Especially in EvE, where being uber does NOT mean having the biggest/baddest ship on the block. That usually comes as a massive shock to those who buy ISK...EvE is not like other MMOs, after all :)Witness the poor dolts who faction-fit their Ravens and still can't run a l4 to save their lives - or earn ISK.
So, there's your answer - simple greed, sombines with not wanting to make the effort to become good - combined with the perception that gear makes you big/bad.

Edited by: Zartanic on 07/09/2009 01:34:05 Some players do not equate what they have with effort. They seriously believe that if they buy something they are somehow better than before, a better player. Online games are full of these people who cheat their way into the game and somehow feel a sense of worth doing it. To add to it they do not care one bit the impact it has on the game or others (even if it ruins the game, which has happened), so they are supremely selfish.
When a player deals in RMT he is the same as the hacker as he knows his own friends are being hacked due to what he does. But he does not care. Why he plays I do not know, I never understood that.
There is no 'level'. With no buyers there is no hacking and fraud. The exception is those that buy from CCP. Even then its cheating in my view but otherwise that's up to them as its allowed.

1) You fail and deserve to be mocked relentlessly until you quit the game. 2) You also fail because you are validating the losers from #1 and also deserve to be mocked until the ban hammer falls. 3)see #2 4) You need to go to jail and get a boyfriend named "Bubba" 5) see #4
in the case of 4 and 5.. if the account belonged to an underaged player it should also be leaked to the prison population that you took advantage of a minor.
before you ask.. yes I am indeed sometimes considered an evil person, but if I ruled the world it would be a better place. Vote Aethrwolf for Supreme World Leader. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

these three are a **** move, because you are either using your own money to become better then people who dont ahve as much money as you, or because you are selling stuff that technically isnt yours to sell (that typhoon isnt yours, it belongs, in a legal sense, to CCP. its their IP, not yours).
bannination should be the result for the second and third. the first depends on whether you do it via the PLEX system or not. i still think plexes are a bad system, mainly because its frightfully inconvenient for me to get them, but they are better then the alternative.

these are a cut above, since you are essentially steal both peoples money and time. there should be IRL legal repercussions for this.

Hi Cat,
They're all against the rules. If you do any one of them I would expect that you would be punished. If you don't do them then I would expect you not to be punished.

This is my favourite ISK buyer of all.
3 failfitted Proteus' in as many weeks, as well as all the rocket/projectile/laser/shieldtanked/etc. navy megas. Oh, and not forgetting the torp/beam laser/shield tanked machs...
He even admitted to buying isk ingame ^_^

Does the ISK buying count plex?
as isnt that a moraly endorsed product by CCP?
as for the "your s****because you buy isk" views, i'd just like to standup for the crowd and say that i have bought plexs to sell from time to time as my current work (12hour shifts) can get hetic and I dont always have the time to spend in game bashing my head on a keyboard to run LvL4's.
Is it wrong that i use the money i earn "irl" to keep up with those who have plenty of time in game to make the same ammount?
