My corp has about 65 POS over our space... I would say about 50 of those are sov holding deathstars and have no purpose other than protect sov. Many of these are faction towers, and some of these have faction fits.
When you replace the sov mechanics, I'll obviously unanchor them since the fuel cost will probably be passed on to gate upkeep, but what am I gonna do with over 50bn of worthless stuff? The market will crash as everyone will be trying to offload them.

I'll be curious to see what happens to the price of faction tower prints in the next couple weeks. Folks have been selling them for outrageous prices in the blueprints channel (650 mil for 1 run DG medium); given that I bought a DB medium, 1 run, for 120mil a couple months ago, I'm hoping I can pick up an assembled small faction for beer money. :)

The plan is for tower (faction and not) and pos fuel prices to fall through the floor, through the basement, beneath the crust, and down to the molten center of the planet. (This may be a dramatization ).
But no, I would expect tower prices to drop significantly until the newfound excess supply gets bought up by people looking for research and industrial POS's. Assuming sov upkeep won't require traditional POS fuel, those prices will floor as well, opening up the market for more small corps to venture into POS ownership. And if fuel prices do drop from their normal price (not today's normal, the norm 3 months ago), then I'd think faction towers would eventually rebound, but not to traditional prices (again, today's prices are not traditional due to POS fuel inflation and wh corps).
The master plan: The towers you bought for 1 bill over the years can be sold immediately for 300-500 mill, or held on to and sold in 6 months for 800 mill.

My guess would be that they allow towers as a way of holding sov, at least for a bit, to avoid the market being flooded with towers and mods.
Maybe they'll even make changes to highsec pos anchoring to switch up demand a bit.
That's the thoughts I had when I came to the exact same conclusion that you did.

I'm guessing they'll have something to do with the "system upgrade" mechanic that's been mentioned. Maybe shiny new modules to add to the tower that will help improve the worth of the system?

Take all of your towers into Wh space and anchor them at the moons, covering every moon, then sit back and watch as angry Wormholers try to blow them up
bonus if you do this in class one systems where they have to use BC's or below to get the job done.

Faction and fuel prices will plummet, but normal towers won't drop in price since they're NPC sold (unless CCP change the prices of them). Faction towers will also not fall below actual manufacture costs (excluding the faction BPC of course).

Edited by: Korizan on 10/09/2009 22:03:02 Well POS's that where put up for POS spamming where a right off from the time they went up.
THose I bet a vast majority will be left to run out of fuel and that will be that.
The others for mining or manufacturing etc will remain but other then that there will be a lot of POS's just sitting there.
For the most part it is more hassle to take down a POS and sell it then to just let it rot in space.

Well, may I be the first to say that if anyone is interested in letting their Small or Medium Amarr, Blood, or Dark Blood tower just fall offline I'm willing to take it off their hands for a fair price. Eve-mail...

Who said they would be worthless?
the impression I have is that thoes Towers will be part of the core of the new mechanics.
In DUST for exampe in that your going to need them in place to monitor planets for ground ops,
For the industry side you will need them to run the new scaning arrays for defence and mining ops, (looking for new roids belts and planetoids and so on) and to produce the items demanded by the crews of the gates.
I think the base idea is that your corp will be more or less making the same profit but in a smaller space, but your going to have to set up the infrastructure to suport all the new shineys to play with.

I don't think there is plan to make them useful. So I fully expect their price to collapse. Not all the way to zero ofc or even as low as their refining value as towers will still remain useful for industrial purposes even if they are outright removed from the sov equation.
Say, around 500 - 600 mil for faction large, etc, as ice products will tank also hard until current supplies are used up. They will be still used ofc as capitals still burn isotopes for jumping around. So the small fuel savings might have veryvery long 'payback' times if isotopes would drop to sub 100 isk domain (altho that might be a bit far fetched).

You can't reprocess towers, they removed that last year if I recall. -- I often heard the Sky's the limit, sadly I'm broke fairly often. |

You bought them because they were useful to you, and you got that use from them! You'll still have at least 3 months of use from them yet, so really, you have nothing valid to complain about....
When CCP nerfs something, they generally don't give a refund, NOS after the NOS nerf, Snake implants after the speed nerf etc. etc. They MAY of.c. implement an NPC buyback programme for normal POS if demand is going to drop off heavily, but I wouldn't count on it....

While there is the possibility they will change their minds...they have stated that there will not be a buyback program. _____________________________________________

i rekon they will be part of the space improvement system. so 65 deathstars might not turn into 65 profitable improvement pos'es but maybe half will.
im interested to see the population of Tolle, and the other highsec ice fields, change. -

This is the most likely case as you will be able to improve any system you control with the new sov system so if you have spares set them aside for future territory grabs or even replacements for any that are destroyed in an attack on your territory. Call it a strategic reserve.

1) CCP never reimbursed players for changes on the gamemechanic, where we could use the stuff to full potential before.
2) New Sov won't be bound to towers anymore and much more we don't know yet..
I bet 50M that the market will crash and those Towers will be pretty much scrapmetal from there on (worth the minerals and BPC cost above the npc ones).
PS: as for moving sov over to the new system.. ccp surely will just reward certain levels of sov with "preinstalled" new mods, we then use for sov.. so you don't have to wait out any timer they might have put onto them.. though, that's speculation on my part.

Wrong. CCP has added NPC buy orders in at least 2 instances: invention implants and, more relevantly, the system scanning array, when the scanning system was changed.
