Edited by: Xilian Yula on 11/09/2009 11:44:37 Hello
Got a fast question, now sleeper BS missiles ****ing hurt, I was wondering if a defender missile actually can get destroy the incoming sleeper BS missile(s)? Also, defender missiles only work on incoming missiles to yourself, and not your friends, right?
Thank you

Well I thought anybody had tried this before, but apparently not, so I guess I'll just go and take a look on test servers.

It would be rather intersting to discover that some of the weapon systems/defenses that are utterly useless under normal circumstances actually turn out to be worthwhile when fighting sleepers.

It takes a number (6ish I believe) of defender missiles to shoot down a sleeper BS missile. My missile skills suck pretty hard though so YMMV...

even if it takes 6, it would be interesting to know if a fleet mate can shoot down missles coming at me... because if so then it might be benefcial to bring a missle boat loaded with nothing but defenders to defend the fleet

Never tried it, but the last I heard defenders would only target missiles aimed at the firing vessel and not at fleet members. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

It's much easier to just kill the battleship or tank it.

... Have you even been in w-space? If you can tank battleship missiles with a single defender missile you can increase you're tank insanely.

Yes, but you can't tank them using a single defender — you more or less need to fill up every highslot you have to make any difference. This means that you will tank them until you run out of missiles and then die, because you won't have anything to kill them with.
A combination of DPS and spider tanking is the easiest way to deal with sleepers.
Defender missiles, since they only remove a little incoming DPS at a huge loss of outgoing DPS, will never be a good choice. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Using defender missiles was one try at mitigating incoming Sleeper BS missile damage, but failed horribly: didnt check out how many it'd need as it seriously gimped my dps.
Also, always remember that even if you fit a crap ton of rocket launchers, it wont help a bit, as Defenders actually go after the missile closest to you upon their launch... meaning if it takes 6 of them to pop a BS missile, and there are 2 Sleepless BS's lobbing missiles at you, chances are you wont kill either one.
That said, best advice is from the poster above: reach a reasonable balance between gank and tank. Too much of either is bad.
ps: have been living in C3 wh space for months now, soloed all sites there (trial and error till i got the hang of it). ---------------------------------------------- Some people say you should fight fire with fire... Nonsense of course; you should fight everything with fire! |

the best protection against sleeper missiles is low signature and high speed (afterburner).. also even if you have one ECM module you can jam the battleship and increase your tank which is more usefull than defenders imho. ------------------------------------------------ cruisers used to be a great power when i started this game :) |

I can confirm that you CAN kill sleeper missiles with Defenders. Friend of mine using a Rail Ferox put a single SML equipped with Defenders and it would take down the Phantanasma missiles even if he was not primary.

That's nice.
However, the question remains: does it actually make better use of that highslot than, say, a remote rep/shield transfer/cap transfer would? The two former will negate damage of all types, rather than just occasionally and potentially from missiles; the latter will let the target run his own reps at a higher rate, or will allow someone else to be more effective — again at all times, rather than when there are some missiles in the air. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I loved to use defenders when flying my Scorpion to support my corpmates... I've used 4 arbalest rocket launcher(about 2sec RoF) and a rubbish 2 slot armor tank.It takes about 6 defender to take out a sleeper missile.I found it suprisingly effective at my working range (80-100km).By avoiding the missile i can stay longer in the site, even when i'm being shot at,to get a re-jam.
