...it's like hitting a hotter heat signature when firing a heat-seaking missile. My point being that using an MWD is like a neon sign to combat sensors of all kinds and thus easier to track and hit.

It is. Installing a MWD increases your signature by 500.
Also the -25% shield HP and -25 Capacitor Bonus makes it easier to kill your target since you only need to go through 75% of their shield AND thye have less cap.

I think the point is to stop all the people *****ing about how they're going faster and thus should be harder to hit, even though as Steppa pointed out, you're setting off all kinds of sensors, and thus should be easier to hit. It all balances out anyway. --------------

500% yeah.
thats 5 times the sensor radius per mwd that is active. --------------------------

Edited by: Shimatu on 21/10/2004 10:06:39 you have hetseeker lasers, hybrids and projectile rounds? cool MWD should make things easier to lock on to, but not easier to hit. Its moving faster, it should be harder to track across the sky. unless it has some kind of bullet-attraction-magnet too. which i have to say is unlikely.
i'm not saying the MWD sig increase isnt necessary, but dont try and justify it with any realism crap.

balance > pseudo physics
You adjust the pseudo physics to fit the balance, not the other way arround.

indeed, and i'm not argueing with that. just dont like when people try and claim the pseudo physics make sense :P

Actually, I think you could easily make the argument that if something is going faster it would be easier to track. Given the limitations imposed by the game design, going faster makes maneuvering more difficult and thus turns are drawn out longer. This would make the imaginary fire-control solutions easier (especially with lightspeed weapons energy weapons). The only restriction, then, is your turret's innate ability to track such a target.
My original post was in answer to all the *****ing I've seen about speed being the Holy Grail of invulnerability.

Nah; hitting target is all about determining its course, and shooting in the spot where the target *will* be at the time the bullets reach it. The signature increase from active MWD makes the tracking and thus determining the course much easier.
Not even to mention some weapons like lasers are insta-hit, so you only need to determine target's position at current time... and again, 'brighter' signature makes it easier.
