Is there a way directly in game or as since so far as I know there's not - maybe a web site - that would facilitate rolling for something and displaying the winner of the die roll? Something akin to everyone in a fleet doing a /roll 100 with the system tracking the results and displaying the player(s) with the highest roll.
There have been instances when in a gang we come upon valuable item - be it a module recovered from a ship we destroyed during a pvp encounter or a blue print found in an archeological site where it would be nice if it could be rolled for instead of just whoever grabs it first gets it or making the FC have to deal with deciding who gets what based on some merit system - or just having it go "to the corp" etc.

This. Or as Trustworthy Joe said, just steal it.

How about you go back to the cave you crawled out of troll?
To OP: I agree a loot distribution in game would be nice, maybe posting in the Suggestion Forums would merit a better response then people who have nothing better to do.

Joe is pretty much on the spot. Trust is requried when it comes on valuable loot. Trust is a commodity in EVE. A loot split mechanic would make trust obsolete and would be against the spirit of the game, imho.

Edited by: Khorkrak on 12/09/2009 17:55:13 Yeah I don't really want a loot splitting mechanic either. I just would like a way to have players be able to role a virtual dice for whatever purpose and have the winner(s) be shown in a result window to all involved.

What we need is a system where, when somebody opens up a wreck or can, an interface pops up for everybody in gang. This interface would allow them to choose to abstain or to roll the dice. The highest scorer after 30seconds or so would automatically get the item.
Gang leader could set how rare the item has to be for this interface to appear, green, blue or purple etc.

Almost funny. Cookie for you. ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

I think a RNG would awesome, would lead to all kinds of other actives besides 'who getz da lootz' Such as gambling for example
More tools for the sandbox = win
BTW alot of other online games before WoW had RNG, MUD's for example.

This is an awesome idea. While everyone else was rolling I would ninja the loot and then blame Khorkrap for doing it.
And making the rolling part of game so I couldn't do this would just result in me sending some mercs after the first turd that posts on the forums a whine about how somebody rolled on the phat lewt that should have been his cause it was meant for a battleship but it was stolen by a Falcon pilot.

No such system is required, give each piece of loot to whoever would actually USE it on a case by case system, if more than one person would use it then it goes to the one most needing.
An artificial (And RANDOM) loot distribution system would be idiotic.

I don't think the OP wants a loot system, just a random number generator (RNG)

You shouldn't browse the forums too much nowadays, then. I would kill you.
