Technically, they aren't asking for your username and password, they are telling you to go verify your account on the website, which, incidentally, looks legit.
TBH, how does this even work? Isn't https://secure.eve-online.com/ an actual CCP website? If not, how is some third party able to create a sub-domain on a domain that isn't owned by them.
Or, are they actually doing something like this: https://secure.eve-online.com/. If that is the case, this little ruse would only work the best on HTML enabled email accounts.
And furthermore, I have yet to get an email like this ever, so that means they don't know I play EVE. Which means, somehow they have your email address; maybe because you bought ISK or something from them?

I too have to add i've never recieved a phishing email for EVE, which is odd because all the EVE stuff i use uses the same email address but they again i don't download dodgy .exe's nor do i visit sites promoting bots, macro's or the buying and selling of EVE reltated ingame items and/or services :)

Edited by: Korizan on 14/09/2009 20:18:03 I haven't received one of these either but this does bring a valid point.
If possible do not use your E-mail you set up your account with for anything else. THen if you start getting junk mail or suspicious E-mails you know where the security failure was.
In peoples defense it could be that people use the same E-mail for everything including forums from other sites etc etc etc, so there is no way of knowing where they got the E-email address from.

I think that's a lame excuse. I got to tons of forums/blogs, etc. I don't get phishing emails sent to me. It still makes you wonder what types of websites one has to visit to get one's email in a phishing list.

hmm. so the actual CCP website is being accessed, but it is being wrapped by their site, allowing them to track any input?

I've played eve since 2004. I have never received a phishing email either. I too have never bought isk or been on any websites looking for eve products not sanctioned by CCP I've also never downloaded anything apart from eve-mon and a couple of apps written my very helpful eve peeps. Seen a few strange ads though . 70 mil sp toons free with a paper clip. Paper clip is quite pricey though lol never clicked on the link. Never had my account hacked either. Only thing i ever bought outside of eve was a GTC from shattered crystal.

I got this to my MSN and hotmail address, which happens to be my character name with the uk extension.
Funny, considering I don't use that mailing address for ANY of my eve accounts.
Its stupid that these morons are trying to screw people over for no reason.

It amazes me when people fall for these mails. They have to be new to the internet because no company sends mails like these and if they want you to check your account they ask you to go to the website and log in like normal if they actually would need you to do so.
Plus there's the whole "WE NEVER ASK YOU FOR INFO LIKE THIS" that all the companies say god knows how many times.
