autoupdater is timing out part way through the download of the .exe. Then it downloaded the 2 database files and of course won't launch.
restored from backup, removed eve-files from the auto-update sources. Updater is jammed again on the exe.
Please link the new .exe and 2 database files in a zip por favor?
Thanks for everything!

VI, Can you try going into settings -> general (I think?). highlight the eve-files update server and hit the delete key on your keyboard then try updating again.
If that doesn't work then I'll get you a separate link. I'd just rather not if possible because it can confuse people.
Hamster, I'll be leaving work soon but will take a look at that tomorrow. --------------------------------------

Could be an issue with eve-files. I had trouble to download it as well. It worked only at the 5th time. Got a couple timeouts...
(However I have downloaded it manually, as I have broken somehow the auto updater, a year ago )

Kalidra, if you have a SQL management console, then you can try this: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1180576&page=6#177
That fixed for me.
Ambo, could be that this is a sql 2008 problem. Would it be possible to add the rutin what I wrote to the application, when it runs the update, that it drops the constraints?

Yes, that should be simple enough to do. Guess SQL 2008 just adds those constraints when it converts from 2005. --------------------------------------

I quess Ambo opened the database once with a SQL2008, and uploaded that to the beta stage, as version 655 is SQL2008.
Ambo if you need, I can re-upload the SQL2005 files.

Thanks, I'd definitely got the 2005 version already but I do have 2008 installed as well so perhaps that automatically caused the file to be converted.
I'll try and get it sorted tomorrow. --------------------------------------

Using Win7 64, tried the link provided in the readme ( http://www.microsoft.com/express/2005/sql/download/default.aspx ) but can't find any mention of a 64 bit version of the Express edition. Readme said go to the bottom of the page and look for "For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, click here"
I think that page has been updated since then. Did some searching on my own, found this ( http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/7/4/f74cbdb1-87e2-4794-9186-e3ad6bd54b41/sqlncli_x64.msi ) but apparently wasn't the right thing. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
An other quick question, I had to reinstall windows without notice, and couldn't make appropriate back ups (by appropriate, I mean make use of any export features), however I still have the old directory structures, from both Application Data, and the EMMA directory itself. What steps do I need to take to set everything back up again as it was? Just drop the EMMA Application Data directory in where it goes (under Roaming, I assume? I was using XP before), as well as the old EMMA Data directory, and then install on top of those in place?

Well I have tried installing this from two different computers. One a 32 bit Vista system and the other a 64 bit Windows 7.
On Windows 7, I install it, but as soon as I run the program, it says EMMA has stopped working, giving no error or anything.
Vista just fails to install.
What am I doing wrong?

I suggest that you install SQL 2008 on Windows 7. Link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=58ce885d-508b-45c8-9fd3-118edd8e6fff On the page look for: SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe - and download that file.

In the EMMA directory there is a Logging\ExceptionLog.txt Please give us info, what you see as error message. Usually the last 1 - 2 exception is enough.

(LH has answered you're other question above) To restore the old data, simply run the install program and then copy the 2 'EMMA Database*' files into the 'Data' directory, overwriting the empty ones that are there.

Try right clicking the exe file and choose 'Run as administrator'. --------------------------------------

a few minutes ago i run another autoupdate and not only the above errors remained but:
- more api updates failed - 1 journal update stayed orange
- after restarting, all failed updates went green without giving me an order notification popup although i have expired or filled orders - the orange journal update stayed - the autocontractor doesnt work anymore: "Der angegebene Schlnssel war nicht im W÷rterbuch angegeben"

That's because the API refID is greater then int32. Ambo created a beta update, what is fixing the issue, however it's not perfect. Some of the database have a spec constrain, what needs to be removed - at the moment manual.

I have downloaded the latest beta release of EMMA and I am still getting the following error whenever it tries to update my Journal entries.
===================================================================================== EXCEPTION REPORT ===================================================================================== 1/14/2010 2:19:46 PM Critical - EveMarketMonitorApp.Common.EMMADataException - Error storing eve character data in the EMMA database. ************************************************************
Being a geek I also downloaded the code to see if I could make it go. After a bit of playing, I discovered the error was in the UPDATE method of the APICharacterAdapter. The parameters in both the generated Update and Insert methods for that adapter are still using int32 as a datatype for the columns that have been upgraded to int64s, so the code has to downgrade them back to an int32 to stuff the into the parameter, which of course fails when the number is too big.
Editing the parameters' datatypes manually fixed the problem for me when I was running it from Visual Studio.

Beta 1.3.2.1 is now up.
This adds the dropping of constraints identified by Lost Hamster to the database update routine. I've also made a change so that if a critical error occurs during the database update process, it will let you know about it more obviously.
I have tested with a 2005 database that already did not have the constraints to make sure there are no problems there and it went fine. I have NOT tested on a 2008 database yet though. --------------------------------------

I expect you also have SQL 2008 instead of 2005? This means that the database update routine was failing due to extra constraints that 2008 adds to the database.
However, I'd also not committed the older changes to google code so they were missing from what you downloaded, I've now corrected that as well. --------------------------------------

Ambo, with the new beta, I get every time a : Problem removing contraints from 'APICharacters' table Inner Exception: 'DF_APICharacters_HighestCharJournalID' is not a constraint.
Error, as I don't have this constrains anymore. Is there a table where the program put a marker, that the update have been done? So it will skip this procedure? As then I would like to change that.
Otherwise the program is working fine.
