How many more rubbish stargate spinoff's must i be subjected to till they let it die. Wish they had just left it as the movie, that was excellent.

Well this one is the Star Trek Voyager version. You can almost say that Atlantis was close to DS9 (with protecting and running ops from a 'station'). So they may give us a TNG or like a team of Ancient Egyptians fighting the gods or some crap.

Don't count it out, the main plotline of both Stargate series was very good. The filler wasn't. (With the exception of the awful, awful Atlantis finale).
I think they might actually do with this one what they wanted to do with Atlantis - have them actually be stranded. In Atlantis they chickened out of that one in the first season.

Stargate Universe
Ive been saying it for awhile, MGM believes its aquired a fan base of the size and undying loyality as star trek or star wars and simply doesnt care anymore about the quality.
1. They kept dragging SG-1 on. 2. The abruptly cancel it, forcing you the rent/buy a sub par movie to see the ending. 3. They start making direct to dvd movies that are crap. 4. They cancel atlantis (really not a big surprise there, considering the show never went anywhere). 5. Along the lines they decide that number 3 was a mistake and pull SG-U out of their anus and cancel making movies all togeather but release a remake of the first SG-1 movie for 25 USD.
Stargate is a dead franchise and I expect the MMO that is coming, assuming it surives the economy, to be the last nail in the coffin after a few years. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

Stargate Universe
got to agree the only reason they killed it is so they can rush films out and make a quick buck on them due to the franchise

Stargate is a dead franchise and I expect the MMO that is coming, assuming it surives the economy, to be the last nail in the coffin after a few years.
Actually, it was Sci-Fi who canned SG-1 to MGM's disapproval, in return MGM canned Atlantis to Sci-Fi's disapproval. After what Sci-Fi did MGM got a taste of the straight to DVD films and forced Sci-Fi to do that to Atlantis a few seasons early than they would have liked. This essentially forced Sci-Fi to rush in Universe.
Don't listen to the Universe cast talking at conventions, you'll wonder how they haven't killed themselves by choking on their own tongues yet.
Also their is an Atlantis movie supposed to be out by December, a new SG-1 movie by April, and the digitally remastered and recut Children of the Gods was worth the ú10!
Also you can tell that Universe is going to be badly written just because of the opening part of the Stargate Universe trailer, the bit with Fat Jack!

Guess what? I didn't watch much of what has been done after SG left Showtime.
This is an off topic forum where people come to discuss things, often opinions, about various topics. The topic of a new SG series was presented and we are discussing the subject.
So why do you not "grow up" and find a topic that suits you.

Sorry to have burst your I hate stargate rant slade, but you can't judge a show from one trailer for crying out loud! Honestly stargate looks to have gone down a decent road here, the acting looks vastly improved, the effects seriosuly updated and the whole tone of the show darker and more meaningful than what has gone before. Atlantis lets be honest wasn't that great, the wraith were nothing more than emo loving vampires with little or no interest unlike the well thought out G'aould that had many aspects to their character. I will agree stargate went downhill after RDA "left" but it still made better than average tele, and I expect the same from Universe. Just cause it's different doesn't make it bad.
My original point stands, if you don't want to watch it no one is forcing you to.

And you can't judge a person from one opinion of a Sci-Fi show based on one trailer!
Oh wait, YOU can. Telling people to 'grow up' because they have expressed a negative opinion diametrically opposed to your own is a juxtaposition of it's own.
Go to the Gateworld forums, and a lot of people are already carving the winner of awards for Universe only based on a trailer.

Banned from the gateworld forums for speaking my mind about torchwood ;) Called people sad for crying over the death of a character and stuff. Anyway this thread isn't a constructive critism of the show, you can't make judgements on a show from a trailer that is the point i am trying to make! I haven't seen one explaination of why the show or even the trailer is bad. Sorry but I had a good read, it's just people guessing or presuming the show will be bad because of what they believe happened before. Find me a comment on here that gives a constructive overview of that trailer (which imho does look bloody good) and I shall then reply with an equally adult comment....how does that sound. And if you also must know, gateworld intailly hated the idea of universe ;) I will re-cap on my postives for the trailer, it looks the part, it looks more adult than previous incarnations, it looks to have a story that most of us can relate to, but I shall reserve my judgement until I have seen it, which will be after fanfest. Until then, I don't think anyone is qualified to comment on a show from a simple trailer....even the OP's orignal thread title doesn't lead to a constructive argument...."it's ****, end of"....

just like all tele I think none done that worse than the dire battlestar galactica reboot. I mean seriously I got that they believed in god, I didn't need it ramming down my throat every episode. But seriously TV has always been and will always be about cliches. Good versus evil bla bla bla. It's what drives half the time a plot. Dodgy acting also doesn't always make TV bad take Babylon 5 for instance, one of my all time favourite shows, but some of the acting was enough to make you cry at times. Maybe the franchise is overused, but then ain't they all, I mean for gods sake just look at marvel and everything around them. I sometimes think people jump on the bandwagon cause it seems like a place to be at the time...I am on the fence until I see Universe and I honestly think thats the only place people should be...until you experience something you can't IMHO comment on wether it's good or bad... I hope it will be great, but I could also be bitterly disapointed...it wouldn't be the first time that something looked great and was bad or even the other way round.

Better, but one of the reasons I don't think universe will be strong, is because of the writing and the actors. Carlyle himself, should be pretty good, but after watching the QandA with the cast at ComicCon, they all seem inept, which stems from bad casting which was from bad writing of the characters.
The visual style of SG:U does look brilliant, but its pretty obvious the weak point with the end of SG-1, SG-A and ultimately Universe was/is the writing. It's the same writers all over again, why do people think that they will get better than what they've tried before? I don't think there appears to be any new creativity coming through at the moment, and especially as SG:U was pretty much rushed.
Anyway, here are my predictions (what I think will happen) for SG:U.
Within the first season, some way to contact the milky way will be found, most likely as a one off thing. During season 2 Carlyle gets killed off, because he wants to leave. Season 3 full contact with SG Command is made and regular trips them become the norm, because the writers again chickened out. Finish at the end of S4, into DVD movies.
Also, I disliked the killing of Ianto Jones, but I'm not one of the people who signed that petition to bring him back!
I also loved the S4 end episode of Bones, the whole episode was great, but the last 30 seconds was something I disliked, but made everything even more interesting.
While I do have a negative view going into Universe, I will be watching. But whether I will be adding universe to my complete individual Stargate DVD collection remains to be seen.

You missed the part where Carlyle goes Psychopathic and starts killing off inferior members of the crew. Which is quite possibly the only part i would consider worth watching, as he plays the psychopath so damn well. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008
