Edited by: Redshirt I on 23/09/2009 03:05:16 About time to build a new system. Is there a thread or forum discussing pros and cons of different setup option and what works best in Eve?
AMD/Intel, Dual/Quad core, Single/dual/quad vid card?
XP/Vista/Win7/Other? 32/64?
Water cooled/Aircooled
Feel free to post your specs, money is not a problem however I don't need gold plated mouse or hotpocket toaster. :)

Pretty much anything will run the EvE client - IIRC the minimum these days is a PII with a Shader 2.0-compliant card and a gig o' ram.
Me, I'm running a new system meself, a I7 940 with a EVGA x58 mobo, GTX 280 card and 6GB RAM triple-channel, and it runs smooth for me.
Why such a high-end system? Since money these days is hard to come by, I bought the best stuff I could afford to make it that much longer before I have to upgrade any parts of the system. Don't buy a system just for one game - make sure it can do everything you want it to, including running Crysis without a hiccup :) before you plunk down the change. IMHO you'll be happier int he long run.
My previous P4 system lasted eight years before it finally crapped out - and could play everything I threw at it up to the very end. Use that same philosophy and you'll be very happy.

It won't be just for EVE but EVE is a reason for the upgrade. The system I have now runs the game just fine but its 4+ years old and its time for an upgrade, it will become second account system.
I spec'd out an alienware system just for an idea, came to $4900 but piecing the system together and building myself I can get it for under $2700. I just need to investigate each component to see what runs best with EVE.....of course other games as well.
I will check out the linkage.
Thanks Red

I just bought a new computer. It cost a mighty $400 - was straight off the shelf, in a box.
6 gigs ram AMD X2 7750 dual-core ATI Radeo 3200 HD Integrated Vista 64
Plays EVE just fine, though I do have all the graphics set to the minimum. (Not 'cos it runs bad, but 'cos I'm used to the look from my older, retired computer)
Even though it's Vista 64, the EVE installation gets put in the x86 section.
I have no idea what that means.

Id say, dont spend a killer amount of money on a gaming PC unless you run high end graphics games a lot.
And dont buy anything with a physX card. PhysX is a big waste of money and only one or two games actually use it. All games can be run off of a good graphics card.
EVE will run with any off-the-shelf PC.

Dunno where you're getting your components...
My I7 system for parts ran $2100, including a Blu-ray burner, 800W P/S, Cooler Master full-size case, and 1.5 TB SATA drive. I used TigerDirect - you may want to check 'em out.
this system will stay high-end for years, even witht he new I5 systems coming out.

You should die for using an 800W PSU with a 17, bluray burner, and gaming graphics. ------ C&P wannabe |

Just means it's a 32-bit app, not directly programmed for 64-bit. You'll find a LOT of stuff in Program Files (x86) - most games for that matter, not just EvE.

Why is that? I don't run SLI, and the P/S falls well within spec for a single GTX 280 and a I7 - so what's wrong, in your opinion?

Note the EVE may change video specs again soon, so getting a graphics card that supports SM 3 at least would be a good idea.
