I recently spilt Cider on the numpad of my keyboard (http://www.saitek.co.uk/uk/prod/cykeyv2.htm), I quickly turned it upside down, shook it up and down and spat some curse words. Next came some funky windows sounds of a key stuck down so I unplugged it.
The next day I went and bought a sh**y keyboard to play things with. I pulled of all the keys on the numpad on the old one, hoped it would dry out and forgot about it.
I have now tried plugging it in again but when I push a key I get a bunch of unrelated numbers and letters as well.
Now, given the nature of the keyboard, I really want to reserect the old beast. So, do I risk putting it in the dishwasher, is there a better way I havent thought of or is it just bolloxed?
Cheers

bang it in dishwasher you have nothing to lose, just be sure to dry it out properly for at least 5-7 days before plugging it in again

i still do that... i think a lot of ppl do :)
on topic: OP Dont use a dishwasher, why would you. If you feel you must, at least dont use any soap or tabs or whatever, you also want to empty the salt reservoir while you are at it. All that stuff doesnt combine well with electronics.
In the doing it right category - just use cold water from the tap to clean food from electronic bits, and assume the chances of it having survived the cider incident at about 5% at best...
Also... cider - yuck -----

I put my keyboard through the dishwasher, on a eco wash with dirty plates etc in there aswell, and soap etc. Came out beautifully clean and as you can see working perfectly well.
If you do wash in dishwasher, Id recommend taking it apart to dry. GL

Just take it apart and wash it. Ofc make sure you don't expose the electronics to water, obviously.

Best thing would be to clean it with booze. Ofc you don't need to soak the whole thing in it, just open it and check if there's dried sugar/stuff from cider in there.
But you know, she just might have a hang-over, so some potent vodka should get her up and going again.

Don't watch **** at your keyboard. What you get on the numpad is way worse....

If you really want it clean and dont mind paying abit for it i recomend medical grade alcohol. wont **** with the electronics as much as water if you are carefull as well as trying of much faster as it vaporise. just make sure you are outdoors.
PS: would be cheaper to get a new KB though ________________________________________________ Tau - Yeah we suck in close combat. To bad you will never get there. For the greater good!! |
