Speaking of RSS feeds, will the user profile page allow us to list our blogs and have CCP maintain a central OPML file that people can import into their respective RSS readers?
I already maintain such a OPML file for the EVE Blogging Community (http://www.eve-druid.com/opml-download/), but the administration of such a thing is a manual process, takes a lot of time and unfortunately, is constantly being updated due to the "discovery process" of many blogs.
I enjoy reading the varied viewpoints about EVE Online as do many other players. Allowing people to list their blog on the COSMOS profile, whether it's hosted by CCP or an external location and CCP aggregrating those feeds into a central OPML file would be a major benefit for the players.
Just a thought.

I would like these options.

I am very eagerly awaiting this COSMOS (different name though, please!) and the potential it has in the future. The more of EVE that is made simultaneously available via the web, the better. Especially for those who have website access while at work or uniersity, but not EVE (though not good for their employees).
Looks exciting.

I greatly look forward to COSMOS bringing in official kilboards (Obviously they would have to be on a 24 hour delay). I will have no ends of fun seeing who are the greatest killers and losers of the weekwithout having to search through dozens of sites and be thrown off by people not posting their losses. Official killboards will shed much light into our beloved universe

Edited by: P Stuyvesant on 29/09/2009 13:57:17 Some time ago, EVE-Voice was introduced and it would be the way large fleet would communicate and no alliance would be able to function without it. Well, after a rocky start, we have had Eve-voice for a couple of years now and I think most players either dont have a need for to do their days to day missioning etc. or have it switched off along with the rest of eve-sound.
CCP tried to encourage ppl use EVE voice by having dev blogs on there for a while, but seeing as they have stopped doing that as well, they are finally realising that dedicated third party tools like teamspeak, Vent and recently mumble, are simply better.
I think the same will happen with this COSMOS project. Sure, it will improve evemail, which is long overdue, but will it replace out of game corp and alliance forums? I do not believe it will. It may be usefull for smaller alliances that dont have the members or resources to host their own forums and such, but that is just like eve voice. Some people will use it, but I do not think it will enhance gameplay for the larger corps and alliances in a way it is intended.
There are so many other issues that need attention, many of which have been mentioned before, but to name a few... Corp management is horribly unclear and you cannot micromanage individuals and their specific access enough. The alliance wallet, which was promised during last year's Fanfest's Q&A, where is it? UI improvements that have been promised for years (No wonder COW lost a titan, because the pilot jumped instead of bridging)
CCP I am glad that evemail will be improved, but where are the other promised and much more needed improvements???

Having had the large alliance experience (at least in terms of forums), I think that if there are enough security parameters in place you'll see larger alliances using the COSMOS forum systems. Less management on the user end, and hopefully less forum hacking and such.
My main question is around mobile compatibility. I'm assuming these nice features will be mobile OS compatible... if not have their own dedicated apps. Getting an EVE-Mail app for iPhone/Android would be cool, for example... or a killboard or ship-fitting ap, or even a mobile EVEmon.
If the above is the case, will 3rd party developers be allowed to create the programs, or will all apps have to be checked/approved by CCP prior to availability (to insure security and no malicious code)?

sigh,
Another huge project that CCP is starting as a groundwork on release and plans to finish one day. Since I started we have...
Heat Factional Warfare Wiki Trinity Graphics Overhaul Cosmos(original) UI Overhaul
And that's just the stuff off the top of my head. None of them are finished, and some of them have been up there for years. Can we get a "Finish what we started expansion.".. maybe, possibly? You know, where you actually work to compete projects as originally proposed, instead of how they ended up in the game with the vague "we'll finish it later" bit added to it.
Eve is starting to get feature creep, CCP seem to think they have to add one great big brand new feature each expansion. So the older projects keep getting pushed back, outside looking in at least. And nothing ever gets finished, the great big new project is always 'a work in progress' and we'll release the 'One True Version' sometime after, but it never gets done. Instead we get another new 'work in progress feature', this expansion we're getting no less than two. TWO!
Just finish what you started already. Yes, some things might have been ill conceived and now you're stuck with it as it is with nowhere to go forward without a complete rewrite. Bounty System anyone? But instead of something new, how about all the developers sit down and look at some of the things that didn't get finished, talk over what works or didn't work, why it got shelved in the development pipeline, and figure out some ways to either finish it or redo it.
I think if you sat down and just finished all the half formed projects in game, it would do more for the bottom line of playability and fun than any two new huge features you could implement. Fully formed rich features are always better than half baked non-complete ones.

Adding my vote to the name change.
This COSMOS thing has got to go. Unless the name is an indication of how well the system will work.
Seriously, it needs another name.
Anything will do.

Heat was supposed to be a larger system than it currently is.
Factional Warfare.. planning is not done.
Wiki.. go back and read what they had planned for it, it was supposed to be a comprehensive help guide, with a nice little question mark added to all sorts of stuff in game which sent you to the wiki with help on what an object is, what it does, and how you might use it. None of that has came to pass.
Trinity.. planets, backgrounds, DX10?
Cosmos(original)... then remove it, and move it over to epic arcs already.
UI.. Yes it works, but its supposed to be getting an overhaul to make it usable. It would help the game greatly.. nowhere near done yet.

So you’re suggesting that the guys who make the shiny new „cosmos“ web side stuff, who I assume are WEB DEVELOPERS (yeah I know wild assumptions here) to all that stuff? How are they supposed to do that? Oh wait let me guess: “developer/programmers are all the same and can do all the stuff no matter what” right? WRONG.
No here’s the deal genius: they have specialized on the stuff they do here with the new portal/eve facebook / whatever and I guess a lot of them don’t know jack about how to make stuff for your shiny little eve client. If the “any developer can do everything” would be true, I wouldn’t write here on the forums because I’d be busy with managing my own super-duper-interweb-spaceship-mmo and counting the trillions on my real life bank account.
That said now to the more important stuff that really interests me. If I got that right you can give people permission to see certain stuff in your profile like skills etc but basically the stuff they can access right now when you give them you’re API key, with the little exception that you got more control over what you show to whom. If that is correct the question here is: Will I/they be able to pull that information I/they can access via the API itself to use it on 3rd party websites. So to speak of instead of dividing it in full/limited access keys you technically can set specific access rights for different players/groups. Probably something for future iterations but would be just an awesome thing.
Oh and btw. THANKS for finally overhauling the eve mail system I just hope the character limit for messages isn’t that ridiculously low anymore it’s sometimes a real pain to put a lot of info into a single mail.

Bugs on login to work around to make that post were zero. Okay it forgott my settings again but that only seems to happen when I kill my browsers cache. I know still stupid but here is a nice thingy in the blog:
Quote: Add to that the new mail system, corp status updates and the future release of integrated corp and alliance forums and COSMOS will significantly reduce management overheads for all corps and alliances.
Again just a wild assumption on my part here (some CCP statement would be nice) but I certainly hope that when they start working/expanding the forum to this that they will overhaul the existing forum or maybe even better build a new one from scratch. But I guess IF they do it it’ll still take some time because building forums can be a real pain. ----------------------------- OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! Contract me all your stuff so I can save it! |

What are they supposed to say exactly? 'OMG u so right, ownz us hard'? They'd basically be responding to people who are belittling their efforts in creating something they deem worthwhile (otherwise, I doubt they'd be wasting their time with it) or saying, "You're right, COSMOS is a horrid name - we'll get right on a replacement!"
What specifically are you wanting them to respond to?

Look up my original post in this thread and you will understand why i was looking for a response. I did not say i was against COSMOS, i'm actually for it! I just wanted to make sure the API didn't get pushed down in importance is all.
No matter, I got a response in another thread about my concerns.

Some people will find uses for it, most wont....
Certificates = Epic fail.....not only they give wrong ideas what to train (yeah, noob 1 month old amarr noob should train shield management V, wth? Dust = Not for PC = bad idea and limiting (auto aim madness anyone?) - its ok that you want to make money but make a PC version so people can fight alongside their friends - I for one am NOT going to buy a console Cosmos = tragic name, unless we are to explore.....stuff.....via "Facebook". Facebook = no ty, its one of URLS blocked on my computer so family/friends CANT enter that heresy from my computer Privacy online = Incoming hackers, esp for api...at least make sure its damn well protected (good luck).
Most people say that you waste time/efforts on something wrong - I usually wasnt one of them, in this case I am. Better improve existing problems, desync!, and petition system - if you cant track happenings in game (unable to prove it) then I dont see point to make new content full of bugs.Oh. and fix blasters/autocannons. Thank you. If you think about name Cosmos then at least worry about existing "Cosmos" in Eve which is fairly tragic/boring/near pointless.

Would you like some cheese with your whine? Please, give it a rest alright. Just because they are putting out new features does not mean they aren't working on other things. Do you have a listing of their production and work schedule? No, you do not, so you have no idea what they are doing.
The production and staff are divided up into teams which each handle a specific project or issue. Be patient, things will get worked out. Just be glad that we have Eve to play, and that your not forced to play Would of Weetads (Lisp intended). Corporate & Alliance Owned Stargates

Sethose - hold on. its not "usual whine" - its not a nerf cry or emorage. What people are talking of is number of existing issues that are already in game, and are not looked upon in timely fashion. Its one thing to have a broken thing or a problem for some time, but its differnt when a company like CCP completely ignores a problem they are well aware of and cried upon...I dont mind new content (I never did), but surely there is a lot of people who are reading dev blogs, anticipating solutions to those issues, rather then spaceship facebook?
Btw - Eve is best mmorpg I ever played (I am a bit older, I can say I've seen all to almost all), dont think I am not grateful, its just I reached point when I stopped petitioning desync ship losses - CCP cant , and wont bother with them.

CCP never stops to amaze me
This new feature seems awesome to bee honest.
I started playing EVE in march this year and I can say that I have enever played a better game in my whole life. As for the MMO genre EVE Online is a game while all the other mmo's are not worthy of that pronouncing. Just for the fact that CCP is independent is awesome.
The moneydevil has not reached them yet.
To implement a full scaled web browsing system in EVE will be nice becuase then I won't have to tab out of the game or run it in Windows Mode.
CCP stands out from the masses by working on their games with passion and all the expansions have made EVE better. In my opinion there is no other MMO that has released an expansion thas made the game better.
But in EVE it makes the game better. And EVE is a game. Not a moneysucking machine.
All hail to CCP!
May you guys live long and prosper throughout the universe!
