Would use the ship probes scanning system to get a lock on a ship and could fire on the ship until cloaked or left system, there would have to be modules for ships to counter the lock.
or maybe a missle as it would have to navigate to target.
anyway each missle or hybrid charge would cost the price of a frigate

Just a tad ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.
Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |

btw some faction citadel missles cost as much as frigates already

Edited by: dead duckz on 01/10/2009 23:44:19 Edited by: dead duckz on 01/10/2009 23:43:50 well with the Pos's being taken out of the sov equation, they need to find a new role in tactical play I think this could work if implemented properly and balanced.
Ice prices are gonna drop as more people arnt gonna put pos's up cause theyre not needed except for contruction and storage

they would still provide a tactical role. Having a POS means having a corp hanger, ship maintenance array, cyno generators, labs, ship and module assembly etc....

The ammo requirements would have to be astronomical. Firing this should cost about a million ISK per shot. And have a considerable reload time. Minutes, not seconds.
Also, no way this would be allowed anywhere except in nullsec. The ammo fired would have to travel the distance at a rate similar to a ship in warp, and some sort of early warning system should be available to every ship in the targetted grid. And this doesn't discriminate between friend or foe - if you're within the explosion radius, you're toast.
And firing on grids with gates will cost you increased upkeep costs for the gates - you break it, you pay to fix it.
Other possible factors would be a requirement to lower the POS shields while firing and mininum and maximum ranges + falloff, measured in AU's.
It's an interesting idea, but needs plenty of work to be taken seriously. |

like i said they would have to lock the ship using probes to fire on it which isnt easy (Ive tried with them, Ships keep moving) or some kind of target designator like a target painter from a command ship or something. Maybe a warp cruise missle
I like the idea of high cost to fire, and long reload.
and if we dont give ccp ideas, things are gonna get stale

The only way this possibly works without a huge re-write is if POS's get a fighter bay module and anybody manning the POS could assign fighters.
Either way, I don't really think it would fit into the balance structure.

I could see this being exploited very easily. Heres the scenario:
You have a pal fly a T1 frig into a highend plex, this frig is speed tanked to the max and agroes all the enemies, the scanner then gets a lock on the friendly frig and waits to fire, the frig then turns and flies close enough the npc's to catch them in the explosion radius, the weapon then fires destroying the frig and all of the surrounding NPC's. repeat this for every pocket while salvagers trail behind cleaning up the mess.

I think maybe a system wide cap drain or cap boost or shield hardener or something like is in wormholes to give the home team an advantage, but not giant gun, even thought I would find it interesting.
I would make it hard to take down systems where there could be 50 pos's and guns on them all

Edited by: dead duckz on 02/10/2009 02:05:39 if it was a solar system missle battery it could on hit for the same as a cruise or torp and have a max anchor of say 20-30 so its like having 6 or so ravens

Uh ... hrm. How about it can only shoot at other POS/stations/moons/planets.
Then you can capture a princess with doughnuts on her head and parade her around in a white toga.
But serious, a anti-POS gun on a POS. Might be intresting, but getting away from the "combat POS" seems to be in the works.

For this particular scenario, a solution is easily available: The gun can't target into deadspace areas. Unable to establish a lock. |
