Edited by: JD's on 26/10/2004 16:00:52 As a new corp starting to recruit (this is an alt to protect our interests) we are wondering what safe guards we should put inplace.
New members have started asking for shares which we are AGAINST simply because they could call for a new ceo and steal the assets or just leave with shares which would make voting un attainable.
We have played eve for too long to leave ourselfs at the mercy of the scroupulous! any tips from the pros would be cool :D

Just give them to trusted members or become a great CEO.
In my corp every member gets 1 share to vote in our wars etc and so i've heard im a good CEO and i dont think any of them would want to even try to overthrow me anyway, just lay down the law and be nice.
And as for hangers, be very very careful ----------------------------------------

Shares are an easy fix. As piercer said, give each member only 1 share, however, you keep 51% of the shares incase of any sort of overthrow attempt.
Hanger access....where to start.
Blueprints originals: Keep in your private hanger and you do the research.
Wallet: come up with some sort of isk cap for the corp wallet and keep the rest in your personal wallet.
Allow everyone to have Security Officer role, so that the need of placing items in low security corp hangers isn't needed, you can place it directly into their hanger.
Don't give anyone you're not related to/RL friends with a Director role. This way you can always keep at least one of the corp hangers totally restricted to you.
Only keep BPC's in a high security corp hanger.
Never give new players access to items directly. Perhaps have an open hanger and only toss the very basics of items there for people to survive if they don't have any cash. Only after participating in corp activities should they gain some more access.
Never advertise that you'll give away a ship or isk to new recruits. This only attracts the beggers/theives.
Anyone who is away for a long period of time (1-2 weeks) without logging in, cut their roles as they may become a sleeper.
There are a few things I could come up with on the fly. I'm sure there are other's who got better Ideas to toss in also.

At this moment shares are pretty much useless, asking for shares or demanding them this instant is equally pointless because you can't do anything with them.
Don't grant people rights if they have done nothing ingame to deserve them. If they are new to the game, be careful. If they have switched corporation very often, be careful. If they claim to be 16 year old girls, be careful.
Reading the Crime and Punishment forum will also keep you up to date on the nicknames of corpthieves.

And then CCP will get free advertising when your picture is on CNN after being arrested for attempted assault.

Additional tips:
1. People who talks about scamming others... usually don't stop there. 2. Some people work really hard to be trusted, then clean out the corp hangars and assets as fast as they are given director rights. I've read about a few of those on the forums. They've been in a month or more in the corp, just waiting for the director rights. Don't give somebody director access at once. Start with a few roles and hangar accesses, if you have to. Then see if they still are in the corp, or they have cleaned out what they have access to and run off.
Best advice is to know the person outside the game, if you want to trust somebody.
Having Eris saying that shares are worthless, gives me the creeps, because my corp mates got screwed by that at once. They were told the same by one of their directors (who also had an polaris alt), so the corp never bothered with shares. Suddenly he had taken the lot and voted for himself as CEO. He cleaned out the corp assets and ran. Then later got his named changed (this was over one year ago). We can't blame Polaris or CCP for this, as there are rotten apples everywhere. But we have learned that you shouldn't trust anybody by default. We were told that we shouldn't talk about this anymore, but I'm just warning everybody who starts a new corp: Be careful.
Maybe the best safety so far:
1. CEO has all shares. 2. Only irl friends, or friends from other games for directors.
Not so important topics, but a few tips on how to share the work if you don't plan to do everything your self:
3. One hangar for members that is open to everybody that have stayed for a week or two. The rest is restricted. 4. Read access for the bpo hangar to the researchers. If you don't trust your directors 100%, put the most valuable bpo's in your own hangar. 5. If you are a production/mining corp, give the non-director builders just take access (no view access) from the mineral/resource hangar. That way they have to produce to get anything from it. This can also be restricted more by not giving them access to the bpo hangar, but only giving them limited bpc's. 6. Make a sales hangar where you can produce the most common things like ammo and modues and ships. Even though some of it are free to members, it's ok to have some control. If you are just throwing 1M of large ammo into the members unrestricted hangar, it might be gone on the market before you can say "Energy weapons are less hassle".

my corp has a diferent approatch. time spent online working for corp = better hangar adress. we are now 5 blokes that have staid online for 4 months and have all director accsess. when we get new people we usually grat ship hangar accsess to what ship they fly. we can easy louse some low grade frig modules to a fast thief. cuz it does not hurt us anything in the medium run and we can kick him out. and we only allow production and director hangar accsess to proven trusted pilots |
