Hey,
To preface: I did use the search function. Of my few complaints about Eve, my biggest would be the way the forums work... but, I digress. I did not find much at all about my question, so I am turning to you all.
I had a combat site escalate. After an unsuccessful run at the expedition (who knew they were going to scram my poor assault frig?), I have grown maybe slightly obsessed.
Does anyone have any numbers like percent chance for a site to escalate? Do only the instant 100% scan sites escalate? Anything at all would be helpful? What are the varying degrees of difficulty? Does the fact that it escalates in high sec change the difficulty? What are the rewards or possible rewards for a successful escalation? Etc. Etc. Etc.
Like I said, anything you know about them would be super helpful. Thanks a lot.

The potential rewards to expeditions are not really worth the time. Might be worth to try it once just to say you did it, but other than that, I wouldn't bother. It leads you into losec and the reward for completing it is abysmal. Not worth it to stick yourself out as pirate bait.

Only a few sites got a 100% escalation, i dont know if there are any in High Sec.
The other sites got a 10-20% (my feeling) chance to escalate if you know all the triggers.
Not all Expeditions going to the end, there is allways a chance that its be a deadend before you reach the final stage.
The Sure reward are Overseer Tags, the Special reward CAN be Deadspace loot or nothing.

Wrong. There is no guarantee of any reward.

It's different for each site, generally the harder the site the more often it escalates _____________ I don't care what is nerfed, as long as it's not my "undock" button. |

Wrong. There is no guarantee of any reward.
When you made it to the final Stage, and kill the Final Boss/Structure, they allways should drop an Overseer Tag.

The risks can be worth it. Two Angel escalations over the weekend, both Chasing the Dragon. Both started in hisec, one required travel through lowsec (I could have gone round but it was long way), the other finished in lowsec. One Gistii A-Type 1MN Afterburner and one Gistii A-Type Small Shield Booster, roughly 400mill.
I also find that destroying certain structures (Drug Lab or Angel Command Centre) is required to get an escalation. Could someone verify this?

How hard are they typically?
My mission fit Jag was usually more than adequate... but the scrams really messed things up for me. Would a battlecruiser suffice? Are the escalations different in difficulty like missions are (level 1, 2, etc.)? If they are different, is there anyway to find an actual or approximate difficulty of them? I'm not opposed to losing ships... but I'd rather not.

HAC can be quite useful for some of the low sec ones.

Edited by: Nefrin Maldoes on 06/10/2009 11:52:06 From what I have seen, highsec expeditions can be entertaining, but not very profitable. I've only picked up a couple, and both of those dead ended before they finished out.
On the other side, 0.0 expeditions can be great fun and hugely profitable, but you'll need a decent group to complete them. My first ever expedition was a 0.0 one. Started in BVIP in the Great Wildlands, ended up way the hell on the edge of the map two days later.
Was the first time I had ever seen 20+ 3mill bounty BS rats floating in space, along with a named BS (Jorun "Red Legs" something) worth 17mill and change. The end site alone took a few hours to complete in a fleet of 8, but the loot was worth it, BPC of a Machriel, which at the time was worth about 800mill on contracts.
All in all, 8 pilots walked off with about 250-300mill a piece in bounties and loot and some great stories to tell.
Edit: Confirming that the destruction of some stationary objects like towers or drug labs are required to get the next escalation. Not always though, as some of the final wave spawn ships may carry the trigger. If you are in a group, whoever gets the killing blow on the trigger object (ship or whatever) will receive the notification of the escalation and the bookmark to it. --------------- He who stumbles around in the dark with a stick is blind. But he who sticks out in darkness is . . . fluorescent! |

Had a group of three checking out various sigs in 0.0 on a very boring night.
Find a "Serpentis Military Complex" that took us a good 15-20 minutes. The other two guys told me this one had a chance of escalating, but nothing came of it.
Next day, one of our guys says he's been trying out probing, so he's probed out everything in the constellation.
The nights dead as well, so we go do them.
He tells me theres another "Serpentis Military Complex" in the same system that I found the night before. Odd, I tell him - even odder its in the same spot.
We warp to it - its empty, next room - empty.
I'm told to look for a control tower - I shoot it and BAM escalation.
Unfortunately for me the escalation was several hops away in a very busy 0.0 sector, so no one was willing to head there with me
Long story short, I don't know what I'm talking about.

serpentis military complex is a funny one. there is a trigger in the first stage and a trigger in the second.
in first room shoot the "Gate Scrambler" i think.
in the second room if you mine an asteroid it triggers another spawn and possibly a shadow serp.

I dislike the escalations requiring mining when your about 10 jumps out from anything of yours equiped to mine, plus nobody in abut 7 jumps has any miner turrets for sale.
Have had this happen 2x now, both times had a Ark roid to mine with escalation and about dozen ships warping in when started mining.
I've had plenty of 1-2 mil deadspace drops off escalations, few 200+ mil drops. The drops are varied. Hi-sec exploration is lots of luck, generally better to do level 4 missions and buy the deadspace modules etc. Low sec exploration my experience so far has been better returns than level 4 missions, but is still early days. Some escalations give valuable faction/deadspace drops each escalation, some you only get off the final escalation, some like drones about the best can be the t2 salv off the wrecks.

High sec expeditions can give very nice rewards contrary to what I'm reading here.
Even the frig plex (lookout-AF allowed)can give low-grade crystal implants in guristas land...hell,the lewt to the finale can be better than the final one (epsilon or better)had 2 once in the same expedition. Hideouts (BC allowed but not needed-AF plenty)can lead to a-type small boosters as well. Vigil: Gila bpc anyone? Watch: Dread invuln? Scout outposts(high sec)outposts (low sec) and others are just 4|10s and have a 25% chance (verified)to drop the big kahuna (med c-type booster or better). I dont know crap about 0.0 exploration ...invite me
